Default SU red embossing powder issue

I had a problem with some swap cards I made using the SU red embossing powder on vellum cardstock so I'm seeking assistance, consolation or a good recipe for a Cosmopolitan.

I stamped the image in versamark, and did the usual with the powder. But after I heated the powder till it melted, I noticed that when I ran my finger over the image (it was cold so don't get smart) it smeared all over the vellum as though it were little bits of crayon. So, I tried heating the next one more until it was seriously cookin' and bubblin'. That helped moderately, but I still got some rub off.

I'm seriously annoyed and never had that happen with any other embossing powder. Is it something I'm doing wrong, a faulty product or just some personal vendetta the powder has against me because I originally was going to emboss in pink (red was my second choice)?

I've got the subtles embossing stack and I have never had that problem. You could call SU! and see what they say.

Sorry I'm not more of a help,

Default Call SU!

Here's another vote for giving SU a call and see what they say. I have several of their embossing powders and can't recall that happening. Does your vellum have a 'shiny' finish to it? If so, then maybe the Versamark isn't adhering right and thus neither is the EP. This is only a guess of course.

Both the red and the burgundy do that, so it is not just you. I've never called them about it, so I'd be interested to know what they say if you do!

One way to figure if it is the powder or the paper: do one on US white. Does it smear on that page? If it does, it's the EP, if not, it's the vellum...HTH

Yup, mine smears, too. Not badly, but enough to aggravate!

I've notice that too with the burgundy...I end up with a pink halo around my embossed image.

I have also had that happen before, and also with a royal blue, so i just tossed them back in the tote. But, I did use it on US White CS, so i figured it was the powder. I went to silver on that particular card instead.
Hmmm....

Just had a thought!...Wonder if you could re-coat while still warm with clear EP, then heat set them again. A little more trouble, but it should work.

Thanks for the thoughts and "me too" replies, but mostly the Cosmo recipe. With one of those pink lovelies in your hand, it all seems to matter much less. Heck I don't even care that my kitties just destroyed one of my stipple brushes.

Still, I'll call SU tomorrow and try it on the US white before passing eternal judgment on the red EP. I guess it all points to one thing: ALWAYS go with something pink.

Cheers!
