Hi Trish, that's a good question. I wonder what plain water would do? It's probably too "thin".
Have you tried the Aqua Painter? I love it so much more. The blender pens seem to tear up my paper more quickly, and the Aqua Painter never runs out of fluid, just add water.
There is a recipe that you can refill them with that used to be on SCS. It had glycerine in it (available at any pharmacy). I haven't tried it, but it's supposed to work really well.
There is a video on how to refresh them ona web site called... dawns stamping thoughts... she does it with re inkers (sorry i don't know how to post a link) she also posts a lot of here videos on utube hope that helps you.;)
You need this solution, not water and not reinkers-only if you want color use reinkers.
Hope this info helps you out.

Thanks to all who responded! I love my Aqua painters for watercolors, but the clear blender solution is what I was looking for. I will try this web site
If you google blender pen recipes tons come up. Here's one that was at the top of the list.
Blender Pen Refill Recipe
from Stampin Art
1 oz. glycerin
2 oz. distilled water
3/4 teaspoon rubbing alcohol
OR
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons glycerin
5 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon rubbing alcohol
Step 1:
Either buy the blender refill or make one of the two recipes above. A little goes a very long way.
Step 2:
Gently pull the tips out of the pen (both ends). Some people use tweezers. I have no problem just grabbing it with my fingers. If you do use tweezers, be very careful. You don't want to mar the tip.
Step 3:
Soak the tips in the fluid (step 1). Some say to soak them overnight, others say for a few hours. It may depend on how dry they are.
Step 4:
Gently (always gently with these tips) push one tip back into the marker. Now place a few drops of the fluid into the pen. You have to be very careful here as the marker is so narrow, large drops won't make it in. You need to use an eye-dropper or something similiar to get the drops in.
Step 5:
Gently put the other tip back in and you're read to go.

I found this recipe very similar to Jackie's and have made and tried it. It seems to do the trick! It makes a smaller batch. I did pull off the tips and fill the barrel with an eyedropper and stored the extra solution in a little brown bottle. Worked great.
2 tsp glycerin
4 tsp distilled water
1/4 tsp rubbing alcohol
I added a drop of lavender essential oil just for aesthetics

Reason: mispellled word
Once you refill your marker with the blender solution of your choice, it's really important to make sure your tip is nice & juicy or it will fray if it's too dry. If you feel your tips are all ready ruined, I found a place where I could get new ones that are priced inexpensively called, Tips 4 Markers. Here is their web site; http://tips4markers.blogspot.com
They are fantastic!
