Question for y'all. I'm been toying with the idea of getting the watercolor wonder crayons but was just reading a post about how great the SU markers are. Which do you prefer and why?
I love them both. It just depends on what you are doing. I started using the ww crayons and prefer them over the watercolor pencils. My suggestion is buy one of the color groups in the WW and a few markers and try them out for yourself. I bought a few markers a while ago and loved them, so I bought a pack for the whole EE color family because I didn't feel like spending $100 on markers. Truthfully though, they are nice to have, but I don't use either all that often.
I never really planned to invest in the markers (it seemed like a lot of money) but my sweet DH surprised me with the whole set for my birthday. Yeah! I must say I love them and use them all of the time! Although I love my WW crayons as well, I definitely use the markers more. Now I wonder how I lived without them. :-)
My second set of markers is on the way and will be here tomorrow!! My business has increased so much lately that I decided to have a second set that's "all mine" that I have for my own personal use...
On the other hand, When it comes to coloring, I grab my crayons before the markers. The markers I generally use for multicolor stamping (like on the alphabet stew set, coloring each letter individually) and I use them for scrapbooking.
For general coloring, I'd definitely say the crayons are my first choice.
I love my markers and use them all the time for scrapbooking too! They are great for use on detailed stamps, but watercolor crayons do give a great painted effect.
I have a both and I really couldn't do w/o either of them... it really depends on what you think you will use them for. The markers are great for coloring and writing... you can also use them directly on the stamps instead of ink which looks really great. But if you just want them for coloring I would get the crayons because you can use more or less of the crayon to make the colors lighter and darker depending on what affect your trying to get. I seem to use the crayons a little more than the markers, but that's not saying the markers don't get a lot of use too!
I have the crayons and love them for watercoloring. I haven't invested in the markers yet because I'm not sure how much I would use them. I've tried using other people's markers and I don't like the effect for coloring images as well as the crayons. I prefer the softer look that the crayons give.

I have both. I can do watercolor with my inkpads (and actually prefer that over the wwc). I think the markers would be better to get before the crayons.
I personally would say go with the SU markers, and then get the water color crayons from Joann's or Hobby Lobby. I got cheap ones with a 40% off coupon and was very happy with them. I am planning on getting Lyra ones soon (a bit more expensive) and I believe they are the brand that makes SU, although obviously the colors would not be exact- I find that with watercoloring the colors are close enough, where with markering (what's the word for that) if you are the "matchy" type, it's good to have the exact one as your ink and paper. (I'm not the matchy type, so I don't have SU's markers, I have impress ones, but SU's are great)
My vote would be for the markers. I have both, but am always reaching for the markers for coloring (scribble on one of your clear stamp boxes and use an aquapainter to color), filling color on the stamp to give a multi-color print and they are super for filling on "oopsies" when you don't get a perfectly stamped image.
To be honest, I haven't used my watercolor crayons very much yet. I purchased the set in the last catty because I knew it was a better deal than what is available now.
If you are going to get one over the other go with the markers. You can slowly add to your collection by buying one family at a time of the WWC crayons in the future months ;)
Definitely both! But if you really had to choose then I suppose I would say markers simply because you can journal or write inside your with the thin end.
I got the crayons, well, because I love to color. I use them all the time to color in stamped images and with my aquapainter. I also like the fact that you can varigate one color so much. I have only bought markers one at a time when I need them for a certain project. I have maybe 6? I like that you can buy them induvidually.
I like the idea I read earlier about buying a color family of each and then deciding. HTH!!
The thing I use my markers most for is to color directly on the stamp when I want to use more than one color. I have all the crayons and markers but turn to the markers more. Just another option for you to give thought to is reinkers instead of WWC. Watercoloring with reinkers and water gives you very vivid color on your images. Much more vibrant than the WWC and lots cheaper, too.
I use the markers to color directly to stamp, to watercolor with (just color on a lid and pick it up with tombow), and if I want a deeper color, to color directly to the image. I think they are completely versatile. I own 3 of the sets and will be getting the 4th in January.
Markers, markers, markers. Have been using them for 8 years and could not live without them. I grab for them more than anything else. I did buy them gradually and started with the lighter colors. They last forever and have only had to replace 1 or 2 light ones over the years. Love them. I wonder if I made it clear enough how much I love them! Yes I do.
Love reading the responses to this, I just got the watercolor crayons, and have the markers on my christmas list, love hearing all the things you girls use them for!
