SU! ink, Clear stamps and yellowing question?

OK I've gone through and searched and read a lot of threads. I've conditioned my stamps (inkadinkadoo) as suggested and any that I use with SU! inks automatically turn yellow even though I cleaned as suggested. It stamps well, clean and all, no problem but the yellowing bugs me after the first time stamping it with SU! ink.

Is that just what SU inks will do?

some pigments will permanently stain your clear stamps. it doesn't effect the stamp at all, just the clearness.
i think every clear set i have is stained. i've noticed that red and pink stain worse than other colors. oh, and teal for some reason. but it doesn't make a difference with the stamped image itself.

The exact same thing happened when I used Stazon. I bought two stamps by the same manufacturer. One turned really dard and the other was lighter but definately yellow.

Some brands of clear stamps will yellow over time. This does not impede their performance.

More and more newer clear stamps are now being made from non-yellowing formulas of photopolymer. But, I've found that most of my good quality photopolymer clear stamps will absorb (stain) the color of chalk ink pads used. Again, doesn't impede performance, as long as the stamp is cleaned properly before switching ink colors.

All of mine are also stained. That is how I know they are loved!

Yea, staining seems to be the only down side to my clear stamps. However, it doesn't keep me from using them!!!

Every clear stamp that I use with a permanent dark ink (like SU Basic Black, Stazon, Brilliance) has staining/yellowing, but I have been known to finish a card before cleaning them . . . ;-) I don't seem to have that happen with SU Classic pads in the color families.

I have done some experimenting and so far the only one that has caused yellowing has been my going grey stamp pad. The colors aren't doing it so far.

Thanks for all the tips and reassurance! I was a little upset but as long as it doesn't affect the stamping then I'm good with it. ;)

ALL the inks I have ever used (not just SU! inks) have turned my clear stamps funny colors, pinks, yellows, aqua. . . and I use stamp cleaners with them. It just comes with getting clear stamps. I still use them, they work just fine, they are just colorful.

How do you girls clean clear stamps. I just got some and have not used them. Is stampin mist fine, or do you clean them some other way?

I have a couple of PTI and Penny Black sets that I've been using. The Penny Black are stained horribly with Stazon that I tried to clean by rushing over to the sink and using dish soap. Then I switched to VersaMagic chalk ink and Brilliance and keep a glass with water/dish soap on my stamp table. My stamps still stain, but very lightly. Makes it easier to see their placement, actually. I just drop the stamp in the water glass and rub with my fingers.

Any water based cleaner is fine. Just don't use Stazon Cleaner for clear stamps. It is fine with rubber - but not photopolymer / acrylic / clears. It will eventually damage the surface of clear stamps.

The only reason I own it is for cleaning up oopsies on the non-porous surfaces I stamp ON, not for cleaning the stamps, but cleaning the ink off of the surface I stamped onto, to get rid of mistakes.

Your Stampin' Mist is fine.

I guess I'm in the minority in that I *like* it when they turn a bit yellow or get a bit stained - for me, it makes them easier to see/find! ;)

for cleaning I use 1 part simple green (get a huge bottle at wal mart in the auto section for $4) and 10 parts water in a spray bottle.

What exactly will the stayzon cleaner do to the clear stamps?
I just bought some.

Also I noticed that my house mouse clears from HL are deteriating around the edges, anyone else have that happen?

My clear stamps seem to work a little bit better after they have been stamped a few times, even if they are stained with ink. At first I thought I was imagining it, but I have heard others say the same thing. Also, I clean clear stamps with Stampin' Mist and it works fine.

The chemical reaction between Staz-On cleaner (which I believe is a solvent based cleaner?), and clear stamps causes the polymer to break down/disintegrate.
