Default SU Embellished Ornaments dies

I love the look of the Embellished Ornaments dies, but I'm hearing mixed reviews about the precision base plate that is used with them. Has anyone successfully used the dies without the special base plate?

I just cut one last night using wax paper and shims--no precision plate. It worked fine although I did need to use a heavy brush to help get all the little pieces out of the ornament. I will try the others later.

I used one of the new dies at my demo's house with the PBP and it cut through well, and was easy to get the little pieces out - but that said, I'm not entirely sure I need yet another plate so will stick to the wax paper method for now.

I have cut all 3 of the intricate ornaments just using some parchment paper. They cut just fine, but as Gail said, you still have to 'poke' out all the little bits. I use my brush tool thingy, too. No problem. Will spend the $25 on something else for now.
