Default SU DSP and scale

I was reading on threads about the new Designer Series Paper, people wished there were smaller pads, or other concerns.

One thing that came up was that folks wished it came in a smaller "scaled down" option that would be better for cardmakers. The size of the actual print on a lot of 12x12 print paper is just huge when you go to do a card with it.

I wanted to let everyone know. I participated in a DSP share where I got one sheet of all the papers cut down to 6x6. I was looking at each one lovingly (man they ROCK this year) and I would say almost ALL of them are a perfect scale for cardmaking. I would say you wouldn't WANT them scaled down anymore. The dots are pretty small, the stripes tiny, I think they must have had cardmakers in mind this time when they designed them. If they were scaled down like a lot of the 6x6 pads I buy they would be crazy too small.

Also they are so lovely in person. Some that were my favorites I still love, but some that I didn't even really notice in the catalog are so fab in person! I think I probably have enough print paper here, I don't use tons and tons, but if I were going to buy a pack or two I'm not sure it would be the same packs I had originally loved in the catalog.

Ok, that's my ramble for today.

Man, I may just have to join one again this year. I was trying to resist!!

I am so tempted to cut all my paper down to 6x6. Am I the only one who finds it hard to make that first cut into a 12x12?

I use these zipper envelopes from Office Depot to store them in--I can usually fit at least two collections in one envelope. Then I just throw all of them into one drawer of my sterlite tower. (I also use the envelopes for my scrap storage, too, and for protecting cards that I take to work--I love 'em!)

Sorry! Been sick and also my computer tried to die on me. I had to beat it back into life.

Ok hold on I"m gonna get the catty so I don't have to say, "the one with the blue and the gray"

Oh heck I let my BFF borrow the catty. Here goes with my Erin descriptions:

the green brown pack with flowers didn't strike me at all but some of these sheets are STUNNING.

I love the graphic circles in the blue/cream/tan pack. LOVE.

the birthday looking paper is just as I thought, nice but I kinda knew that.

the pink/orange one with the glossy accents on it was on my "must buy" list but in real life it's good, but not my favorite at all. I'll use what I have but I'm glad I don't have any more.

the soft yellow/peach type combo is sorta blah in person. I'll use it, mostly the subtle prints on it.

The Christmas one ROCKS. I mean it's painfully lovely. I have no intention of making Christmas cards this year (having a baby mid november) but this is making me wish I were.

the red/cream/black love type one is stunning. it was a must buy for me and it still is. This is the one where i really noticed, the black polkadots, if they were any smaller you would get dizzy looking at them.

Play Date is cute, but on all of them I like the subtle pattern more than the feature pattern.

I never would have looked twice at the build a bear prints, but they are actually cute. Tiny plaids and stuff. Pretty sweet.

The Halloween is exactly what you think, darling, dark and fun.

Ok the one with lots of purple and pink...One side of most of these sheets do nothing for me, but the flip side of them ROCKS. I mean these might be my favorites in spite of not loving the sides that have a lot of purple. I'm stunned by the beauty of this pack.

the garden/floral multi color one is lovely as expected. And I really love the subtle print sides of that one.

the white embossed looking set is really cool in real life. I love it without adding any color, I think just the white on white for some nice wedding cards?

The baby set is super cute, even if you don't use the baby side prints. Just on color combo it's a great set. Also the bunny looks like Pat the Bunny.

The blue tan paper set is stunning. I never noticed it in the catty and it's FAB. Also my DH mentioned that it would make really cool wintery Christmas cards. I loved him a little bit more when he thought of that.

the newsprint looking set is cool as expected.

And that's my full DSP review!

By "Scale Down" the original poster means if the prints themselves were made smaller, it's not a swap to join.

However; there might be another DSP swap going on out here somewhere.

Thanks Erin! I am trying to decide which ones I have to have. And congrats on the baby! Maybe you will have to do a few Christmas cards now!

I cut mine down to 6 x 6. Rarely do I make a 3D project that requires anything larger ~ mostly cards. If I need 12 x 12, I can always pick up a few sheets of something at the store.

And even the SU dsp that seemed like too large of a pattern before, looks much more manageable in 6 x 6!! Really, I know that's all in my head, but it is what it is ;) !!

I used to look at SU paper and it kind of made me a little queasy -- then my demo showed me her little swatch book with the 2 x 3 or 3 x 3-ish pieces and I loved it all. Darn that girl for being such a good demo, lol!!

That's when I cut mine all down to 6 x 6. And now I have SU dsp on my wish list.

Print it in MDS and you can scale it yourself (if you put it in a punch - I resize my punch to a 1/2 page and print it on textured paper) Now if they would only add more to the DSP offerings in MDS!!!

I do have trouble using DSP that I buy, my dh laughs at me all the time when I show him the beautiful papers I've bought and not used. I have framed some as wall art, too, so I don't feel guilty about not cutting it.

I love the 12 x12 as it makes it so easy to make the cute 3x3 cards?? I never seem to know to cut long or wide with a 8 1/2..but..i can cut a 3 inch X 4 easy....I am a newbie..and do not know the tricks..but, love it when someone sends me a little 3x3..and display them on a little table...and they also fit in my photo when i get too many for the table..and they are cute to send to people??

Well I've been REALLY sick. Like heart troubles sick. So I think I'm taking a pass this year. Also the baby is due Nov 7th so I'm thinking those photo cards with my two older boys and the baby will be perfect as I like to mail the day after Thanksgiving mail break. So the timing on photo cards would be right for both a birth announcement AND Christmas card in one!

Oh Erin, I am sorry to hear that you have had such a rough time of it! I hope you are doing ok and continue to improve. It does sound like you have a good reason to go with photo cards this year. Hopefully not having to make Christmas cards will leave you with a little time to just play with the new papers however you like!

o.k. maybe I'm confused... HOW do you get the 12x12 to 6x6? I looked in the catty and I didn't see any DSP in a 6x6 size.

I bet everyone will appreciate seeing pictures of the new baby! Sorry to hear your having a rough pregnancy, I'm glad you're being easy on yourself about the Christmas cards.
