Default Be a SU Demo or Not..

Hi Ladies,
I'm contemplating about being a SU Demo and i would like to hear your views on it. I'll probably only be a hobby demo. Is it worth joining?

I think it depends on how much you REGULARLY buy. I used to buy more than $100-$200 a month just on my own (SU stuff), so it was worth it for me, but I've since slowed down, and may be dropping soon if I don't push for some orders....often orders come through and help you stay on longer.

Hope that helps some! Just my .02

I did it and have been very happy that I did. Will you be able to buy the minimums each quarter if you don't get orders from others? The kit is very much worthwhile especially with the SAB bonus, even if you don't buy/sell more...

I am going on my 7th year as a SU demo and I still love it!
I have never had trouble meeting my minimums.
Good luck!

Right now the Starter Kit is such a good deal - you're paying less than the value of the stamps plus the ink pads. Worst case, you drop at the end of July. And life goes on.

If you're at all interested, then it's well worth going for it ... nothing really to lose!

My starter kit came today. It is so worth it. I love the coordination. The paper matches the inks and the stamps go with the punches, etc. It is perfect for me at this stage of my stamping life. Even if I never buy another SU product again the current promotion is a steal!

Join because you realllllly want to~ not because you feel pressure to, or for any other reason. Do you love the product, would you like to get more at a discount? Can you make the minimums are you own?
And, there are a lot of us that are hobby demos!!

I say do it too!!!
There are always people who are gonna LOVE SU! or dislike SU!, some complain regularly about things SU! does, but overall SU! is the best Stamp company ever!! No, Im not demo-biased!! (ok, I am...lol)

Images are fabulous, inks and paper totally coordinate- no guessing...minimums arent that tough-
and Basketball mom said it best-

"Right now the Starter Kit is such a good deal - you're paying less than the value of the stamps plus the ink pads. Worst case, you drop at the end of July. And life goes on.
If you're at all interested, then it's well worth going for it ... nothing really to lose!"

The price is right- 20% off, and an extra $47.95 set you can pick!! Woot-woot!!!

I say go for it, especially with the current promotion...can't beat that! I'm a hobby demo as well, and although our budget is getting tighter, there will always be things I can purchase to meet those minimums. The only reason I'll drop would be if I couldn't meet the minimums all by myself due to budgetary reasons. I have three very young children and it's just not practical for me to be an 'active demo.'

There are so many benefits and little perks for being a demo. I am a hobby demo and I offer free shipping to my friends. I love seeing the catalogs early and having access to great project ideas. If you already spend your money on SU supplies, it is worth being a demo. Best wishes to you.

I joined as a hobby demo five years ago never even thinking of doing a party and then a friend asked me to and the rest is history.:p

I earned the incentive trip to Panama last year, I am leaving for the SU cruise to Bermuda at the end of this month and I will be going to Hawaii next year!!!!!

Now is the best time to join, the starter kit is so reasonable and with the extra set, how can you go wrong!!!

JUST DO IT!!!!!

You get 20% instant income to start with. Then if your sales are high enough, you get an extra percentage back called volume rebates. You also earn points for each dollar of sales per quarter called great rewards; these points can be redeemed for certain catalog merchandise, forms, catalogs, apparel, etc. You get free stamps for meeting certain goals (or sometimes just because!). You can earn a free cruise, trip to convention, cash awards, etc. We can also usually pre-order items from the mini catalogs. Sometimes pre-order a hostess set from the big catty as well. There is a ton of information and samples on the SU website for us to use.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something; there's a lot of benefits!

There are a lot of benefits but there is work involved too. The job will be what you make of it and success depends on your ability to organize and "do" the work. I'm not trying to discourage you, because if you want to do it, you should, but didn't want to paint an all rosy picture either. Like everything in life, it has it's ups and downs. I've been a demo since 2005 and I enjoy it, I don't work very hard at it, I have no downline and I don't recruit. I decided early on that I didn't want to do that much. I've stuck with what I'm comfortable/able to do around family, farm and work and it's been great! Know your limits and stick to your goals and it can be a good thing. Go in unprepared and get in over your head and you can drown.

If you love the product - Go for it! I did 4 years ago. I too thought I would be a hobby demo but I hold monthly classes. The part I love about SU is designing projects and cards. And my customers keep coming back (although most have been stamping over 5 years) to see what new thing I will be doing at class during the month. I have never had trouble making my minimums and I still only buy what I love! (I don't use things that I don't love so buying them because my customers might like them just doesn't make sense.)

It is a great deal to sign on right now - so find a good upline and take the plunge.

Hi Jannica,

I am a hobby demo and I love it. I joined SU so that I could receive the 20% discount. I would take a look at what you are spending on average and see how much you save.

Some people join with the intentions of being a hobby demo and end up making a business out of it.

All I can say is join and whatever you do, make it enjoyable for you.

Take care.

I joined in August just so I could get the discount. There was so much in the catalog that I wanted, to me it made sense.

But I am not sure that I will stay with it past this summer. I will have to wait and see what the next catalog offers. I have so many other stamp companies that I want images from and other embellishments that a SU set really has to "WOW" me to want to order it.

I have really enjoyed all the perks of a demo and discounts, but this new catalog offers more embellishments than stamps that I want. And for that I don't feel the "need" to spend $100 a month.

March 17th. That is, they must have your paperwork in their office by that date (or you must sign up online through a demo's website on that date).

In my seven years, I don't believe I've seen a more enticing promo. 20% off AND a free stamp set of your choosing. That's more savings than the ink pad promo we've had a couple times!

Of course you are, LOL (I'm her upline, I can "talk" to her like that). Demos get a monthly publication called Stampin' Success that has stamping and business tips in it. They also get a quarterly publication called On STage with all sorts of fabulous projects in it made by other demos. You get to network with other demos (although that probably depends who you sign up with).

Oh, and you get access to the Demo side of SCS...

I'll second this. You don't have to give anything back or do anything else if you don't make your minimums. You just go back to being a customer.

I'm a hobby demo too. I just joined, about a month ago. I decided that I was spending at least $100/month on my craft supplies. But it had me driving all over town finding what I wanted. With SU, I can order online and stalk my UPS driver all in the comfort of my home.

I'm hoping that one day I can make a business out of it, but that won't be anytime soon. So for now I am totally enjoying the fact that I order things that I love, from a company that I admire and love that 20% discount.

I say go for it! And it's really a great deal right now with the free stamp set.

Can anyone tell me how the SU! order process works from a demo's perspective? I did Pampered Chef for a while and it was great because they take credit cards and pay the fees. From what I've read, SU! doesn't do this. So do most of you use PayPal for credit cards? And then, of course, you have to pay the fees for that. Is this a problem for any of you? And do you submit the whole retail amount of the purchases and then get a check back, or do you keep your portion upfront?

I've thought about signing up, but it would be kind of wild for me, because I've never been to a SU! workshop or even seen/used any of their product. It all looks good, though, and the thought of coordinating products really appeals to me. More so now than when I first started "collecting" supplies. The problem is that I don't know anyone else that stamps/scraps etc. I can't afford to meet the minimum requirements by myself, so any suggestions for how to get started building a customer base?

Thanks!
Jessica

It's worth the money just to get the starter kit. Then if you don't want to build the business you can trade or sell your business products to another demo. It's SO worth it!!

I had been debating signing up as a demo for awhile. I finally did so as the current deal is just too good! Add to that that you also get 30% discount off of your first order vs regular 20%. I am going to order big ticket items I have been wanting for a long time-is set of markers, paper cutter etc. Then if I don't ever make quota again-I am still way ahead.

I've been debating this very thing.

I want to. I mean I spent $150 last week on SU! sets. I know I could make the minimums my problem is how long am I going to want to? DH is no help he says go for it if you want or just buy it from someone else.
Can you purchase all of the hostess, Sale-a-bration, etc.? I would love to be able to do that. If I can that will put me over the edge to make me sign up.

You can have hostess orders be yours if that is what you are asking~you would get all the benefits of the hostess order, and it counts toward your minimums.
you could have pre-purchased the SAB sets prior,(if you were a demo) but now you just earn them with your $50 order. Is that what you were asking?

That's exactly what I was asking.

Bummer about the SAB stamps. I was really wanting some of those.

Thanks!

Things they are a changin' ...
Right now ... we don't submit it all ... we keep our portion up front.
Starting April 1 ... SU! will allow us to accept customer credit cards and SU! will pay the transaction fees. for those transactions, the credit card will be charged the full retail amount and then our instant income will be deposited into our bank accounts each week ... we're just getting the details on this

Building a customer base: you start with your friends, host a party yourself and invite them. Then you go from there. SU! has articles to help you ... and there's lots of help on the demo side of SCS ... in addition to the help you should get from whomever you sign up under (your upline).

Brianya, I noticed you are in Alberta, so if you were sending in the physical paperwork, the Calgary office would need to receive it by Monday the 17th (unless you were signing up online, then you can do it up until that evening)

HTH!

Been reading a lot. But hoping you can help me more. My question is pretty specific.

I see there is another deal going on with the demo kit for May.
My question (and I hpe I dn't get my demo upset as I asked her and she thinks it's no problem, but hubby really wants to absolutely confirm)~

I want the kit. It's a great deal. Problem. I am NOT going to make my minimums, and don't want to do this as a job. So, I would buying the kit adn then saying...no thanks. What happens when you do that. I mean I know going in, i am not spending $100 a month nor selling. So, I would be contacting them almost immediately after recieving the kit that I don't want to do this.

Am I going to have to pay them the other $150 value of the kit?
Has anyone ever done this ? Quit immediately?
Would love some feedback.

Hugs,
Paula

You may definitely buy the starter kit and then just sit back and do nothing. Really. I bought the starter kit (twice!!), the last time in January. I may let my demoship lapse, I may not. It was an excellent deal and I was able to trade my business supplies and a set with another demo for other things that I wanted.

The only thing -- if you join now you are going to get a box of catalogs that will only be current until mid August. Not sure if any demos will want to trade for them, but maybe they will. If you wait until August, you would get new catalogs and could definitely trade them. However, who knows what the cost would be.

So, feel free to sign up and then just let it lapse. Good luck!

i'm currently on a SU! break. but i was a demo for almost two years. i will be back. it's wonderful.
i do think you need to decide if you can make the $100/month minimums, though. i was purely a hobby demo. i could do it, but i dropped this month cause i had too much other stuff going on.
it all depends. i loved it. i will join up again. the company is lovely! so helpful if there's ever an issue.
