pp.58, Something sweet/ What in the world is that basebal bat looking thing???
pp.64, Peace Within/ Is that chair balancing on two legs???
pp. 94 What's with the sway backed girafe???
The baseball bat is to make a baby rattle with a treat cup
I totally didn't notice the magical chair! Can someone also explain to me what "peace within makes beauty without" means? I think PTI used this same sentiment and I still don't understand it nor do I know what type of card you would put it on.
The giraffe is obviously about to poop, and it seems that the elephant has already stepped in some.
I could never bring myself to buying the mosquito wheel, because I find nothing CUTE about mosquitos! Here we spend the whole summer infested with mosquitos and they take the joy out of summer for me. No thanks!

I think it means: peace within your soul/mind will make you pretty on the outside. (I don't think it's meant to be quite so literal in terms of beauty, but I think it keeps with the notion of being able to tell someone's mood by their appearance, that sort of thing.)
I think it's an encouragement type sentiment-- along the lines of peace be with you-- but it's really not one of my favorites.
I was told that there was going to be different ribbon bundles available but I don't see any......am I missing something or can you only buy ribbons separately?
I don't understand "To a classic" either....oh well
Some of the backgrounds are new, but they failed to give us a cling option with them. Not happy about that.
I too wish there was a cling option with the new backgrounds. I find them easier to use anyway when they are not mounted, so it seems like a waste to spend $21.95 (Canadian) plus shipping and taxes and then NOT use it on the wood ... just a bit too expensive. However, I do love a few of the new backgrounds ... just dont know if I can get myself to pay that much for them.
There's always a need for beets and artichokes
I know I'm in the minority not liking Longfellows
Me too. Longfellows not on my list. But Kimono Kids......that's a different story.
I like the sentiment about friends and relatives... if you knew mine you would totally underdstand.

"peace within makes beauty without" I think that if you are at peace on the inside, Your natural beauty will shine through and people will see that.
Adirondak chairs are so comfortable...I have a rocking one on my porch. I will say though that they can be difficult to get out of when you are very pregnant.
Does anyone know what the round thing on the left hand side is meant to be?
It looks like something you'd see on an old time cartoon from the 60's. In fact, I think my parents had a piece of wall decor,( you rally can' call it art), that looked just like that. and I know it was a pattern on my grandma's dishes.

I understood it to be as such. I think I read it as "beauty without ____." and I'm waiting for the end of the sentence.
It's my kind of set, one of the first I'll be ordering. Tons of potential cards for the men in my life. The wolf is gorgeous, the best I've seen SU put out.
I have to agree with you here Pegg!!! Having just visited the Black Hills of SD, it was great to see this set!!
I love the traditional "things that make you go hmmmm...." thread & even started it myself once, but I don't see anything that speaks to that theme with this set.
and I've only seen the catalog online so far, so I can't really participate fully yet!! Maybe later
I don't have a problem with this set for the same reason as Nancy. Definitively something for "men cards" and scrapbooking Yellowstone and that area which I have a ton of pictures of!
On page 146: Where would you use the stamp with No.123456 etc. I don't get it.
Page 75 - Friends Fur-ever - I think the dog is supposed to sit on the chair and I guess the artist thought it was cute to make it sit like a human instead of a dog with it's short little front legs extended out like arms. I think the set is cute though.
Has anyone noticed that Pear Pizzazz is just a shade off from Certainly Celery? I was all set to buy the ink and paper when I matched it up I figured it wasn't that different to make it worth forking out the money for.

I haven't yet seen Pear Pizzazz IRL but was hoping it was somewhere between Mellow Moss and Certainly Celery.

It have been cute if it was just numbers, maybe for a birthday, but I don't know when you'd want to use up a Hodgepodge frame to put this on a card! And just "4" you bothers me. Why are you going to spell out "you" but not "for?"

Yes, and I also think Cajun Craze is close enough to Really Rust for me.
I'm so glad to see this thread title that I came up with many catalogs ago. I always liked to hum the tune of the same name when I'd find a doozy in the SU catty. I only have a few this year, so here they are:
The very wierd partial straight pin stamp from Inviting (p. 53). What occasion calls for a stamped image of a partial straight pin, and what does it have to do with parties?
To A Classic...'nuff said.
A beautiful ceramic/porcelain drawer pull on top of a...cardboard box. (cover) Hmmm.
Is it just my catty, or is the clock image slightly crooked? It's sending me nuts to look at. (p.127) If they can't get it straight in the catty, how am I gonna stamp it straight at home?
One more...did someone play a practical joke on Shelli and tell her the family photo shoot was a costume party? What is that get up? Why is she dressed like Grandma Moses?

Okay, that's all I can come up with for now.
I think the idea of the pin stamp is so that it looks like you've pinned the white invitation on a background. I guess. It's not one that grabbed me anyhow ...
Shelli explained on her blog how they do the photo shoot ... and she and the girls pick all the tops, and then everybody gets their own skirts/pants. So ... apparently she knew what she was doing.
Apparently I'm supposed to sell y'all tons of buttons, so you can make multiples of the Thanks card on page 122. (but it's a pretty card)!
And the numbers stamp ... they've got a sample on p.189, highlighting the No. 1. Not quite who I'd sent the next logical card ... highlighting "No. 2" ... ;)
pp.58, Something sweet/ What in the world is that baseball bat looking thing???

pp.94, Animal Stories/ What's with the sway backed girafe??? :(
Page 105-the 2 background stamps in the clock set look as if they were botched up during manufacturing and they came out all smeared and messed up. Or, better yet, the stamps will make it seem that WE did a really crummy job at stamping.
That's really the only thing that caught my attention. I was hoping for another really useful sentiments set like Teeny Tiny Wishes, but larger. And more dies and punches too. Guess we have to wait for the Holiday catalog.

I love the distressed/grunge look ~ and it's pretty popular now especially with Steampunk designs and with the help of Tim Holtz. I think they did this set well and I like that it's parts/gears and not just timepiece(s). Clocks just always remind me that time goes by too fast ;) . Anyway, this one's on my wish list!
I like a lot more in this catalog than I've liked in a long time! I don't remember the last time I ordered but I'm tempted again. But as long as we're playing..... I did think the horse in Horse Frontier looks too much like his muscles are showing - aack!!

You know I will have to look at this again, I thought the same thing about the horse looking muscular. But it seemed to me when I looked at the stamped sample it was'nt as noticeable to me. May be I'm crazy?
jent, I bet you're not crazy . Actually, I would not be surprised if it looked better stamped. And if you watercolor or blend those lines together, I imagine it could look pretty nice.

I envy those of you that can pull it off. All my efforts at distressed/grunge come out a sad and grubby mess! So I gave up!

I agree with you on the Teeny Tiny Wishes and punches, but the clock set on page 105 was one of the only sets that caught my attention for being one I liked! I don't know if I'll ever get it since I already have tons of wonderful Tim Holtz stamps and Above the Mark stamps that will work the same, but I liked the scale of the two background stamps on that set. Most of my other similar ones are a larger scale.
Wish they wouldn't wait until the very end of the book to put the Ronald McDonald fundraiser stamp. Anytime it's at the very end of the catalog, it's too easy to overlook. Wish they had it somewhere in the middle or the beginning. By putting it at the end, it's like they forgot about it and just stuck it in at the end.
Got a good chuckle reading through this old thread!!
Got a few to add:
Pg 35: Who am I giving candy to that has RIBBIT on it?? just sayin....
Pg 90: I break out in song when i see the partridge: "A whoole lotta love is WHAT we'll be bringin.....come on get HAPPY!! Travelin along theres a song that we're singing.....we'll make you HAPPY!!""
pg 101 : I could use the little scissors in the middle of the circle "precious little one" with pictures of the time my kids cut their own hair in their baby scrapbook!! LOL!!!
Yeah, the horse will probably stamp OK but I agree its a bit on the muscular side!!
Funny thread!!

I didn't think about that with the Ronald McDonald. I often look through magazines and catalogs back first. I don't know what it is but I will hold it in my left hand and let the pages from back to front flip out under my thumb. Anyway - I really like the airship in this one.
I think animal talk is cute - but you're right, not only why would you put Ribbit, but why would you put "what's up?!" on a gift? Seems a little silly.
I think Road to Happiness needed a regular person for the driver's seat. It doesn't translate quite the same way as the pick up truck did to loading it up with various items, and your only choice for people is a bride & groom.
And Make a Cake -- the spotted cake on the plate is all squared off, and the top and bottom edge should at least be curved like the cake plate.
I thought Great Sport was very cool -- I have no use for it but I love the flourishy emblem thing with wings. Except it would be nice if there was a specific sentiment set mentioned that it was designed to go with. Or am I missing that somewhere? (Looking online)
The horse kind of freaks me out. He kind of looks like he belongs in one of my anatomy books lol! He may look better colored...
Awww...I think he's a pretty horse! But then I've only been around real horses a few times and don't have much to compare him too. My nephew enjoys riding and attending rodeos.
I considered getting this set and the cowboy set that's retiring, but haven't been able to get myself to push the buy button. I'm guess I'm waiting for something more Marlborough Man, like that retired set whose name I can't recall. But I'll never get that one, what with the ebay prices going for $100 or more.

Agreed. I might have bought this set if it also included one single person--male or female. Maybe I'll get the set and send a a car with a bride and groom using the "Time for a Brake" sentiment. LOL

Funny, cause I love the Road to Happiness set. If you put people in it, the hard part is the people stamps tend not to look like the people I'm trying to send the card too (wrong age, wrong ethnicity, etc). And that horse stamps out so beautifully on page 84 that I think it's beautiful, but that's just me.
Can't wait to have the actual catalog in hand versus the online version. My demonstrator says it's in the mail, hope it gets here soon!
