SU 2014: "To buy or not to buy that is the question"
So I figure by now, we SU fans have either seen the online link or have the new catty in hand, so I am wondering what are your must haves and your passes? For me I want all the Blendability markers, but not sure about the Coastal Cabana one because the color will be gone in a year.
So far my other must haves are:
Typeset Designer series paper
Mossy Meadow in everything as my Christmas green.
New Stamps:
Traveler
Something for Baby bundle
Bundled Baby
Boys will be Boys
Simply Sports
Bravo
For Your Country
Flower Patch Bundle
Bordering Blooms
Work of Art
I Love Lace
New In Colors
All of the stencils
New Adhesive
Chunky Twine
New Embossing Folders
Basic Shapes of Framelits
No stamp sets are catching my eye that don't look like something I already have. I took a few Copics classes and for some reason, the coloring and blending doesn't do much for me, so the Blendables (or whatever the name is) isn't catching me, either. I'm done chasing paper and ink colors, only to have them discontinue. Unless you are new to stamping, all the colors look awfully similar to something I have already. Am not trying to be a Negative Nellie, but for the seasoned stamper, nothing new. That's ok!!
I think it's going to be an inexpensive crafting year. lol I need to use what I have. Lots of paper, inks, stamps, embellishments that need to be put to good use!!

I have a few sets I still want that will carry over. I don't have the new catty memorized yet. There a very few stamp sets I want, but I will get the kraft stickers and matching stamps that are to be used to seal the envelope! So cute!
Lots of punches, framelits, re-inkers, the fancy vellum, chalk marker, masks, a falling dot stamp, etc. are on my list. This will be my year of fun extras.
Not loving the new in-colors at all, except Blackberry Bliss....YUM!

I have quite a few items on my updated wishlist.
Blendabilities are amongst them as well as several of the new punches.
Some of the stamp sets I really like are:
A Work of Art
Num Num
And Many More
Beautiful Bunch (and the matching flower punch)
Bordering Blooms
I also really like the Striped Scallop thinlits die
and am contemplating the Flower Fair framelits and matching photopolymer stamp set
I will take a pass on the whole dang catalog, in that the layout this year is EVEN WORSE than last year's. Once I was able to actually find the product instead of all the ridiculous home decor magazine pages (mark my words, someone is going to order a digital kit and expect to get three throw pillows based on the pictures), I managed to get a whole page of things I am interested in.
I want to get the sequins, the pretty watercolorish thank you single, the koala single, the sets that have the stamps that match the banner punch... and the banner punch. Work of Art is nice and it's across the page from Kinda Eclectic, which I like, too. There are two hostess sets I like (the first two), and there's one wedding set I like because I think the flowers are pretty.
I will probably get some blendabilities, too-- pumpkin pie first, because I don't have very good oranges in my copics, and rich razzleberry because I don't have good red-violets, either-- but I can't help but wonder if Copic knows how SU name dropped them in the catalog.
I just made a wish list and was surprised at how many sentiments stamps were on it! They are versatile though, and I like to have just the right font to fit the mood of my card. I want to try the Blendabilities markers in a few colors and I like some of the new ribbons and embossing folders. Stamp sets that made it to my wish list are:
Fabulous Four
And Many More (especially once I noticed that they fit in the Four Frames stamps)
Be the Star
Hey You
Something to Say
Flower Patch and dies bundle
Bordering Blooms
Work of Art
Blended Bloom
Corner Garden
Life's Adventure (hostess)
Bloom With Hope (hostess)
I was also happy to see some of the smaller paper stacks in the regular catalog, and liked the All Abloom stack
I know it's not new, but I really, really like the Scallop Tag Topper--just having a hard time justifying the price.

I totally agree. I seriously dislike wading through all the projects to look at cards. Just cut out all the clutter! And not too much I have to have although I always host a fall workshop and by then will have decided on a few things to order.

I don't have the catalogue yet, demo went on the SU cruise, fun fun for her. But have seen the link, love, love, love this catalogue! So much I want, so little money! Lots of great sets to use for Operation Write Home. Even though I want re inkers for the new markers I will likely buy at least the skin tone ones. And pray they get re inkers for them. Love the layout, all the ideas. I hardly bought anything last year, just didn't speak to me, but this one really, really does! (Not a demo just love their stuff; I actually use two different demos and have been known to use even more)

Been browsing the online version which has made my eyes go buggy....excited to get the paper one in the mail soon.....
And Many More
traveler
Age awareness
Zoo babies, kept putting it off but I really want it
You rock
Pictogram punches
Groovy love
Kind koala
You little fur all
Hot diggity dog
......
Almost everything on my wish list is a carryover from the last catalog - not much new or exciting (to me) in this new one. I must be showing my age because I just really don't care much for the "doodle"-style fonts and images that are everywhere now. It's a shame, too, because I LOVE a lot of the sentiments in several of the new sets - just not the font. I don't care how trendy they are - if I don't like them, I won't use them...
I've been considering starting a Project Life project, so I may get an album and some page protectors, but I'll make my own cards to put in them. I think the Corner Garden background stamp is pretty, and I'm a fan of the Perfect Peacock single, but other than that, not much of the new stuff blows my hair back
I'm still deciding. Like gregzgurl, I'm not a fan of the 'doodle-y' fonts. And I do think there is such a thing as too many sentiments. Not enough images in this catalogue for me.
This will be the start of my second year as a SU demo. I've seen lot's of catalogs in the past.
But I like the layout.. I think they have more sample in with the stamp set's.
I like the fact that you can buy just about anything your heart desire's from the catalog.
Wood mounted Stamps, Clear mounted stamps, and now photopolymer Stamps.
They didn't change any of the current color's. Which was nice. I do LOVE the new in color's, Cause they arerich and very earthy.
Yes there are more sayings in this catalog. Lot's of great ideas.
And lots of Digital ideas.
My list is long! With my pre-order I purchased some of the Hostess set's.
I like you.
Daffodil Delight Asrtmt Blendabilites Markers.
Hello Honey ink pad
Lost Lagoon ink pad
Something to say.
Cardstock new in color's.
Blended Bloom only in Wood mount.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Traveler stamp set.
Say Cheese.
Love who you are only in Wood mount.
Be the Star.
Swallow Tail
You little Furball
Hot Diggity Dog.
An open Heart..
And my list goes on and on...
I thin this year the catalog has a lot to offer everyone!!!
I agree with you about the fonts. I absolutely detest the fonts that have all of the colored spaces filled in. These appear in several new sets in the catalog. If I'm going to buy sentiment stamps, they have to look better than kid scribble.
My "pre" wish list is not THAT long but there are a few things I am getting! I do like Timeless Talk but am not 100% sure I will end up ordering it...the other one that I am on the fence about is Groovy Love. I am for sure getting Tag Talk and the Bracket punch to match. And, for an oldie but a goodie, I am going to finally get the Love & Sympathy stamp set. If I don't reach $150 then I will wait until the holiday catalog comes out to order anything though. That's really the only part that I don't like is that there are no holiday stamps in this one.
I haven't had much time to peruse the new catalog, but so far I know I will be buying Traveler and the new In Colors if SU is offering an In Color bundle like before.
My list was originally just at $600 worth of new items I liked. After looking through it again, it has been slashed in half. Hoping I love a bunch in the Holiday catty otherwise it is going to be a quiet year for me with SU.
There are only 2 new stamps sets that I want and 2 new EFs. Otherwise everything else is tools.
Totally with you, Emily!!! I have absolutely HATED the new layout SU took with their catalogs.
I finally had some time to look at the catty.
I was beyond thrilled when I saw that peacock stamp! Oh yes, it is on my "Must Have Right Now" list.
I saw a few other things I want, too, but my list isn't all that long. ... yet. I know I'll be wanting other things after I start seeing what people are doing with them.
I haven't seen a catalog yet. I know two demonstrators, and neither one has ordered any catalogs. (One didn't even know she could!) I'm refraining from looking at the link, because I want to sit and savor the new catalog with a cup of tea (or a glass of iced tea, depending on the weather).
Just got the new catty, so i am still going though it, but I noticed not that many stamps are going onto the want list. Some great dp has made it to the list..still on the fence about the blendables.
I was totally excited about the blendabilities until I found out that they are disposable. They will not have reinkers or accessories like replacement nibs. Since they are sold in sets of 3 I was thinking that since when blending with 3 (or more colors) you use VERY LITTLE of the darkest shade and mostly blend with the lightest shade. So what happens when you run out of the lightest shade and still have juicy dark one. I would have to purchase the whole trio again. (Or flesh tone pack)
Maybe they will reconsider.
SU! seems to do a lot of that "you have to buy the whole shebang to get the one thing you want" marketing. I want the tiny heart punch that comes in the pack with a star (have one) and a flower (that I don't like), the regular markers are only sold in sets, they group stamps that require five or six different punches/dies to cut them all out instead of doing a set of five or six images for the ONE punch/die you already have/want, they remix old images into "new" sets (maybe not exactly the same, but close enough to say so) - almost makes me cranky enough to not order anything...
Blackberry Bliss is a MUST HAVE!! Love that color. I will purchase a pack of that paper all by itself; then probably buy the assortment of paper and ink pads to get a taste of all the other In-Colors. I will also buy a refill of the Blackberry ink. This is the first set of In-Colors that I have liked in a few years but don't have the budget to purchase individual packs of paper for all of them. Closer to fall and Christmas I may invest in more of the Honey or the Moss color depending on how they look in real life.
There wasn't a single stamp set that grabbed me. I am holding out for the holiday stamps in the next "mini". But I did like some of the silver and gold options for ribbon and twine so I may order those when I order new In-Colors.
I would love to hear from their marketing people what the goal is regarding catty layout. Any ideas, demos?
I don't work for SU, am only a demo. In the 10 years I've been a demo, though, the catalog has always been intended as an idea book as well as a straight product catalog.
SU did a great job training demos on this very topic at the catalog premier. This new catalog was geared toward three types of stampers. I am going to use my own terminology because I am tired... but basically, the beginner who is new to stamping and doesn't own supplies; the dabbler who has stamped but doesn't want to own a lot of stamping supplies; and the proficient crafter who likes a lot of it and wants to own it. So on the spreads that have the three layers (think layer cakes) the top layer is designed to appeal to the beginner; the middle layer is designed to appeal to the dabbler; and the bottom layer is the proficient crafter. Hope this helps.
Does anyone want Flower Patch? That's my big 'want"! I am a sucker for two-step stamping ....it's so fun! It's a photopolymer set too. I am not a big flower lover, but I love this set.
I also LOVE this paper. For years I didn't care for much of SU's dsp. The last few years I've loved lots of it. I got Retro Fresh from the occasions catty and I'm in love with that!
Yep! I'm not a big flower person either but I like this one! I love the samples on the big two page technique layout for it AND it will be super simple to stamp since it PP! I love my red rubber but some stamps (like that and alphas) are so much easier with PP because I'm lazy are rarely get out the SAMJ so I either wing it or actually won't do a project because I don't want to bother with it, lol!
I think I like it because it's so bold and it's not some frilly dainty flower.
I always buy too much on my first order and now that I'm not working (I had a little stamping allowance out of my paycheck and yes I'm a demo but I don't make much from it but I'm hoping to change that now that we have moved somewhere way more urban) I've had to be more careful about what I buy and I need to space my orders out more anyway...there's only so much one can use at one time, lol!
I do keep changing my mind of what I need now and what I'll get later but flower patch is a sure thing!!!!
So I figure by now, we SU fans have either seen the online link or have the new catty in hand, so I am wondering what are your must haves and your passes? For me I want all the Blendability markers, but not sure about the Coastal Cabana one because the color will be gone in a year.
So far my other must haves are:
Typeset Designer series paper
Mossy Meadow in everything as my Christmas green.
I noticed Coastal Cabana too and wondered why that would be one of the colors SU would choose. SU also has a Coastal Cabana marker singly in the new catty. Now I'm thinking it may be an In color that will be in one of their color families next year since they seem to be realigning the color families every other year.I have no inside information, just my thought.
