Default Storing Scrapbooks

Do you store your completed scrapbooks on their side? Or vertically?

I'm wondering if at some point with storing vertically, that it puts a lot of pressure on both the page protector (the holes) and the adhesive... all that hanging in the air.... ??

I store mine vertically. I am pretty sure that I learned that at a Creative Memories workshop years and years ago, that you should always store scrapbooks vertically.

I'll look around in my files and see if I can find that anywhere. I'm so anal I took notes at that workshop - it was the first time I'd ever been to a scrapbooking thing.

All I know is that CM strongly recommends storing them upright...vertically. They must have a good reason for it, but I'm not really sure what it is, but I do know that they put a *lot* of research into things like this.

If you store them flat, horizontally, all the lovely embellishments you put on your pages can leave imprints on your photgraphs. Less likely, or at least not as quickly, to happen if stored vertically.

I just copied and pasted the following from the CM Q&A on their website:

Q. What happens if I stack my albums?
A. Creative Memories does not recommend stacking albums. Storing your albums vertically allows the weight of the album to be evenly distributed over the entire spine and binding system, thereby removing pressure from the album pages. Stacking albums horizontally can damage your albums by placing pressure on the album cover and pages. The added pressure on the pages may lead to abrasions on your photographs or memorabilia, and possible denting of the cover.

yep, vertically is the way to store the albums

over time, keeping your albums stored horizontally will increase the rate of deterioration due to the pressure on the photos

Also, if you live in a humid area, storing them stacked or even having a very full album will 'trap' humidity and moisture in your albums with can cause mildew to form on your pages and even on photos.

Albums, and especially photos, need to breathe.

This is also the reason photos should not be stored in an air tight container unless that container is humidity controled.

The reason behind storing your scrapbooks vertically is the weight - if you store it horizontally the weight of page on to of page on top of page can harm your pictures. Especially if you have any type of embelishment that may leave a mark or dent in a picture that is on a page opposite it.
