My unmounted stamps are all squashed in boxes and are getting damaged, i also can never find what I want.
How does everyone store their unmounted/cushion mounted stamps? I have seen the usual CD case thing but I would need hundreds to house them all
Also does anybody stamp them in books and have a sort of image file to keep track of images/sentiments etc??? If so how do you organise it? I really want to do this as got so many but do I do it by make of stamp, theme, sentiments, occasions?? What do people finds works best??
I ordered the clear folders from Unity Stamp Co. They look like a file folder and you can get a lot of stamps in there. I put them in a file folder box and it holds alot. I also have pages stamped with images and then separated by vendor. It is easier for me that way since that is how I keep the stamps sorted.

Reason: to add something
I laminated 8x11 CS and store all UM on those. Slip them into page protectors and store in hanging file folders. I can't remember who or where I saw this done, but it's wonderful. Stamp an index page to slip into the page protector too. Catagorize by themes and you will be all set!
If you don't have a laminator, try packing tape on the CS. It will work too!
Good luck. It's a big job.

I did buy a three ring binder and I'm in the process of stamping each set so I can page through stamped images of my sets. At times I need reminders of what I own. I bought page protectors. I only have about 75 sets but I still forget about some of my stamps. Some others here on SCS (on another thread on this topic) said they thought page protectors would become too bulky. I want them in page protectors. No punching of holes, no torn holes, etc. Maybe they had a system where this wouldn't happen. I just like them to be covered. I have them by grouped by birthday, sentiment, flowers, etc. I will eventually need a few more binders. I know Gina K has a neat and tidy system to purchase for unmounted stamps to be stored in.

I LOVE my clear and unmounted stamps in these. They are large so I can fit many stamps in them. I did sort my stamps by theme. Also, I have mine stored on both of the insides and a piece of cardstock in between of all the images in that case and it works perfect for me!
THey are cheap to!
I'm in the process of organizing and cataloguing my stamps. I use 8.5 x11 acetate sheets I bought at the office supply store (they're report covers) to store my stamps in binders. I stamp index sheets off the stamps in categories (floral, christmas, swirls, etc.). I also try to keep sets together and stamp an index sheet of the set, then individual images on sheets and put those in the category they belong to. Don't know if that makes sense, but hopefully I'll finish sometime this year. Then to unmount all my wood mounted stamps.....

Is there some reason why wood ones should be unmounted. Is it just to make more room or have you found a good little tip that we should know about.
Like you, I would have needed hundreds of CD cases to store all of my umounted stamps. I went with storage binders that I LOVE!!!!!! They are much cheaper than you will find other places too. I also knew I did not want 8 1/2 x 11 sized binders. These are the PERFECT size and work for my hundreds of stamps. You can see complete details here. Let me know if you have questions.

I'm unmounting them so they don't take up as much room. All the cases and boxes I have them in use too much space in my book cases. Also, using them on a clear block allows me to see almost exactly where I'm stamping with the rubber stamps (I always forget to get out my stamp-a-ma-jig).

That's what I am going to try  though I will probably go ahead and have the larger size.
I can't help with the storage issue since I haven't found one I like yet, but I can help on the index binder. I just finished mine at the start of summer and I love it. Here are some previous threads about indexing with category suggestions, etc:
Nestie Index in Action (although I have since taken these out of the binders and stored them in my paper holder on my desk, so I can just grab them and put them over a stamped image, instead of getting out two binders)
I don't think this is been mentioned in this thread yet so I'll share what I do. All of my rubber is firmly mounted but the index part of the system works well for mounted and unmounted.
I stamp each image on it's own 3x5 index card and have them filed in an index card box. They are organized by different categories (Christmas, Birthday, Animals, Food, etc.) and are even cross referenced (ie. Heart - themed images are stamped on two cards; one for the "love" category and another for Valentine's day). Each category is filed alphabetically so when I need to make a baby card, I pull out the box, flip to B for Baby and can scan through what Baby themed stamps I have.
(Here's the part the unmounted ladies can skip. lol)
I have a 7 drawer 12x12 storage case on wheels that I purchased from Target earlier this year. Each drawer is numbered and labeled with the stamps that are inside (ie. Drawer #1 has the following categories: Sentiments - Funny, Inspirational, Friendship). Now going back to the index cards, each index file has the specific drawer location of that category (ie. Funny Sentiments - Drawer #1). I also include on the index file what else is in that drawer in case I want to browse another category. (ie. Funny Sentiments - Drawer # 1: Funny, Inspirational, Friendship.)
I do have some unmounted stamps that are kept in baseball card type protector sheets. These are kept in a 3 ring binder (where I also keep my acrylic stamps in regular sized page protectors.) The unmounted rubber is indexed in my system but I haven't done any indexing on acrylic. (They are, however, organized and seperated by category. lol)
Clear as mud?? lol
I tried a couple of ways before I figured out that this was the best system for me and my limited storage space without unmounting. Also, I stamp at my dining room table so having this system on wheels enables me to wheel my stamps from behind my dining room table to out in the open when I'm playing. I doubt that I "invented" this system but I came up with it all on my own. :-)
Nestie Index in Action (although I have since taken these out of the binders and stored them in my paper holder on my desk, so I can just grab them and put them over a stamped image, instead of getting out two binders)
This is a great! I was thinking I may copy (imitation is flattery, you know), but laminate instead of using page protectors. Thanks for sharing. I love all your index ideas.
I bought Scraponizer cases. I can fit TONS of stamps in them, cling and wood mounted. Granted, the wood ones will move around a bit. But you can put stamps on both sides of the case and it's 8.5" by 11" so it's a nice size.

Patter - this is AWESOME! You are a woman after my own heart... VERY ORGANIZED! I actually bought these cases (and pages) from GinaK and they came yesterday... so I spent the night moving my stamps from the hundreds of CD cases to these! I love them!!!! I'm going to take your idea of the spreadsheet binder for labeling my stamps.
Love it!

I just started organizing my unmounted stamps and I love the system. someone shared it with me on split coast and I changed it a wee bit.
1.I bought a hanging crate from Walmart for 2.50
2.then I bought hanging files from Staples approximatly 9.00 (Yellow they were cheaper
than the plain ones for some reason)
3. Labeled the hanging folders by topics: Water, Sky, Animals, People, etc
4. Put hanging folders in alphabetical order
5. Stamped images from subject in neat roads across cardstock horizonally.
6. Stamped same images on the back size of card stock in neat rows horizonally.
7. Slid stamped card stock into page protectors
8. Put Aileen's Tack it over and over on back of unmounted stamps and let dry.
(used Aileen's because it is cheaper than cushion or the other stuff and i have
a lot of stamp. Tape on back didn't stick well.
9. Then I stuck all the stamps on one side of the page protector matching it up with image.
10. Put in hanging file of subject matter with side without stamps facing me.
(This way if they do for some reasons stop sticking they fall into hanging folder)
And I have an instant picture of what stamps are on that page protector and no immediately which stamp is missing if it falls off or I took off several and need to put them back.
why neat rows? Because if I decide to sell them all I have to do is put a number by each stamp and scan page into the computer to sell or when I die, my kids can do it. Actually that's when it will happen since I have a house full (now you know why I'm unmounting my single stamps) and haven't sold them yet.
Also, when i finish unmounting and organizing these, I'll make a copy of the page protector and put it in a binder that will also hold my SU sets on that subject.
Several of my topics are Fall Sayings, Christmas sayings etc. That way if I want to use the SU image but not the saying I will know what and where to find alterative sayings.
Hope this helps. I am a long way from finishing this project, but i CAN TELL IT HAS REDUCED A FLOOR TO CEILING BOOK CASE WITH A SINGLE MILK CRATE TYPE HANGING FILE BOX.

I tink this is what I'm looking for. Do you have any pictures?

I bought a big piece of mounting board and cut it up to 11x8 then glue thin film sheets or transparency of the same size to it. The EZ mount stick onto these. I then put the whole thing into a 30 ring binder file. U can also get A6 size clear file to store ur UM and type out an index to put into the first sleeve.
I have mine in small bins that I keep in the kitchen type cabinets in my craft room. They are divided by season/ holiday/ type and then I have a laminated sign on the front of each bin with the names or my persoal descriptions of them- works well for me and I have probably 700-800ish...
