I have so much stuff to keep nearby that I have temporarily taken the 'easy but large' way out from Lowe's. Take a peek! There are certainly smaller options ... just depends on your personal needs!
I'm soooo fortunate to have a super handy husband who hung some cabinets in a spare bedroom for me. They are somewhat organized by type, but not size or alpha...which certainly is an option. They are right above a wonderful work counter he also made from a section of premade laminite (formica) that is attached to file drawers at either end. SU paper and stamps are so accessible. It's marvelous!
I have mine in a Armiore in plastic bins (the Steralite white ones with holes in them) - I have a bin for word stamp sets, a bin for image stamp sets and a bin for SU retired stamp sets. I store my holiday ones in an under the bed box

I have mine in baskets because I like baskets. I keep the backgrounds together, as well as sentiments, flowers, etc. I stack them on end in the baskets according to category with the name facing up.
I took all my DVD's and put them in my coffee table that has a storage, then I put my old DVD rack, a nice wooden one, in my stamp room. My TAC sets are in CD cases so it takes up less space.
I keep my stamp sets in Staples plastic crates - stacked on their sides. I have 3 high stacked on my stamping table, 3 high and 2 across on a desk, and 3 more high on another table! Each Staples crate holds 22 stamp sets - 2 piles of 11 each. <g> I need to take a picture of it. Since I "lost" so many stamp sets to retirement, I have 3 empty crates right now. <G>
Oh, and my retired sets are on bookshelves in the closet. <g>

I have my stamps that do not come in their own containers in a cardboard carry out pizza box. I have stamped the image on the outside and then also on the inside. The outside so I know which stamps are in the inside and then again on the inside. This way I can place the stamp back in the box in the same place. The side of the box is then labeled regarding what type of stamp is inside. The boxes are then placed on a shelving unit.
I have gotten alot of great ideas on how to organize my stamps and other stuff. I can not wait to slow down at work and get caught up on my house so that I can spend more time in my craft room. Have a great time organizing your equipment.

I have mine in those 6 large-drawer rolling carts. (I took the wheels off and have 2 of them stacked on top of each other). Each drawer is labeled as the SU catalog is labeled and then I also have one drawer just for backgrounds and one just for alphabets. (the backgrounds actually takes up 1.5 drawers b/c I have sooo many).
They are deep and sturdy. They are closet systems brand. I think it is target brand. I bought some of the shoe storage where the SU sets fit perfectly in little piles. I also bought the shelves that are slide in and out for easy access. The shoe storage sits right on top of the sliding shelve cabinet. It rocks. I will try and take pictures sometime and post them.
I have a few different ways that I store my stamps. First, I have some in CD cases (unmounted or TAC stamps), next I have a few sets in plastic cases that the SU stamps came in, finally my DH made me a wooden rack/shelf (think of the type that kids store their wooden puzzles in at school, etc) that I can slide cookie sheets in and I have my stamps sitting in the cookie sheets! It works out really well, the wooden shelf/cookie sheets is my favorite!:o

I like the cookie sheet idea. That is very clever. I have my stamps stored in plastic drawers and labeled by type.
Well, my mounted stamps are literally thrown into the drawers of a Sterlite cart awaiting for the day they make their way into the microwave and get unmounted....
As far as the unmounted ones...they are all on EzMount foam and I store them in CD Cases, in binders using the Sunday Int Stamp and Store boards and I also have some in document boxes that I found for $1 at a local dollar store.

What do you mean about making there way to the microwave. Can you actually unmount the wood mounted stamps?? Where do you get the EzMount foam??

I'm sure there have been many threads about this here!
If you put a wood mounted stamp in the microwave for a few seconds (5-10) you can easily pull the rubber and foam off of the wood mount. The foam will be sticky, so depending on the stick left, I may just try to dirty it up by touching it to get rid of the stick and then I ad a cling film to the back. I buy both the cling film and ez mount from Sunday International.
Karen,
Thank you for your help and answering my questions. I had never thought about taking my wood mounted stamps off of the mounts. I sure do LOVE the clear stamps and the arylic blocks they are so much easier to work with. I will have to check out Sunday International and see if I can get some of that stuff.
I'm sure that I don't have as many stamps as you girls, and most of mine are not SU, I took gallon sized zip lock bags and cut a cardboard sheet to fit inside, put my stamps on top with the design up, zip to close. With the cardboard in there you can stand them on end and be able to flip through them.
I store my clear stamps in CD cases. I have them organized my manufacturer. I'm thinking about getting a Clip-It-Up for them though...I still have the original packaging and am wondering if I'll use them more if I can see them.
My SU stamps are on shelves available at Walmart/Target. I {heart} these shelves. I am lucky to have a lot of space for my stamping/sewing/craft stuff, so space isn't an issue right now. Anyway. I actually use 3 of the shelves stacked on top of each other. With the base cabinet, my stamps are at eye level. I have them organized by theme on the shelves (according to the current SU catty) but I still need to fix/add the shelf labels. The stamp cases can stack 4 high, and I can fit 4 stacks across. Most of my retired SU stamps are in the cabinet under the current stamps. I leave a few of my favorites up with the current ones.
I have my other stamps in sterilite drawer units (also from Walmart/Target) by manufacturer as well...House Mouse, Hero Arts, etc. If I have a 'collection', like the Stampendous Changito stamps or Bee stamps, I've put them in a SU plastic case that had a background in it. I have my backgrounds stored w/o the case (vertically in attachment). I may start grouping my Halloween stamps, Christmas stamps, wedding stamps, etc. but my current method works, so I'm not sure I want to bother.
Anywho. Sorry this post is so long. My organization is always a work in progress, but I hope that my organization can help someone.
Okay, many thanks for those thought provoking ideas. Next I need help with sorting. What categories? By set name? If in categories, what about those dual purpose ones like greeting for all reasons which has words and "things"? Help please! Valda
