Default Sterilite/Iris cart for holding stamps?

I'm thinking about getting one of these carts to hold all my stamps:

cart

I don't own that many stamps so I'm thinking at most I would stack them 2-deep. I was also thinking of throwing all my CDs with unmounted/acrylic stamps in there too. I'm cautious the weight might be too much though.

Does anyone use one of these carts to hold stamps? I like that I would be able to remove a box to paw through to find what I'm looking for.

I don't have any experience with the Sterilite brand, but use the Iris carts for my stamps and they are very sturdy. I bought my first Iris carts over 12 years ago...and they're still holding strong! Now I have a whole wall of them (check out my gallery for photos). I use the clear photo box frames and layer them 2 deep in my drawers. HTH!

Default storage

I do not keep the SU! in the boxes but I do have them coded so I know what set goes with what. I have a travel info book so when I shop I don't duplicate-too often anyway! I have the stamps organized by food, backgrounds, flowers, holidays. I have 2 of these cabinets and 4 3 drawer storage units stacked. It seems to work for me.

Those types of carts work great for rubber stamps and ink pads etc. I used them before my hubby made me shelves for all my stuff.

I have two of those which I pruchased from Office Depot when they were on sale in August (reg. $29.99 on sale for $19.99). I think mine only ha 6 drawers each though and I think it was by Iris, not Sterilite, though I use their products also. I removed the top of one and connected them so that I have a tall rolling tower 12 drawers high.

I love it! I don't use it for stamps though (keep those in jewel cases or the clam boxes - have not finished the process of unmounting them all yet), I have all my acrylic blocks in a drawer, adhesives & pop-its in another, stickles in another, reinkers in another, etc. The height is realy perfect for so many things and I find that I use them more often if they are easy to reach.

Enjoy!

Double check to make sure the drawers are removeable. I have some that are and some that aren't. I have my single stamps in an Iris cart that has removeable drawers with hinged lids. It is nice to be able to bring the whole drawer over to your work space. My scraps are separated by colors in the same kind of drawers.

I use the Iris cases for some of my wood mounts. I personally find they do SLIGHTLY buckle when they're really full so you have to be careful how you handle them. I keep mine ON my Iris cart not in (my cart is loaded with paper)

The only problem I've ever had was when I stored things on top, they warped and were hard to open.

One thing to consider is you will end up buying more stamps, so you will always need more storage room. So many things I have bought for storage, I quickly outgrew!

I use the boxes in post #5 above. Mine sit on a table though and I have two stacks, each one having four of the 3-drawer units. SO it's a total of 24 drawers. On the shelf under the table, I have two more stacks of two units each to hold all of my cardstock.

I keep all of my DP (not as much as a lot of people have!), my SU unmounted stamps in CD cases, non-SU clear and unmounted stamps in CD cases and loose, and some wood-mounted stamps also - all in these storage drawers.

The ones with CD cases hold four stacks of 6 cases each. It is very easy to take out a drawer ~ I sort of give them a slight squeeze on the side. Which is great because you don't want them to completely out unless you *want* them to come out ;) ! I also have to take mine out fairly often because they are on the table so go quite high. I keep boxes of cards and my papercutter on top of them.

And I have yet one more unit of three drawers to hold my punches.

SO - they work great even with the drawers loaded. I'm not sure about the cart version ~ if the weight is too much for the casters??

Oh . . . someone mentioned storing things on top - yes if something is too heavy on top, you won't be able to slide the drawer out easily because the top frame will be putting pressure on it.

The top has sort of a raised border and then the flat center - obviously so that they can stack. I happened to have a couple of pieces of plexiglass from years ago that I used as an improvised light table. The plexiglass is just the right size to span the distance and make a flat top. On another one, I use a glass cutting board. You can also sometimes find a sturdy plastic placemat. Any piece of wood, whatever, can give you that flat top so it's useful space.

PM me if you'd like any photos Good luck!! Happy stamping . .

I own this exact iris cart and Love it! It is great for storing works in progress because you can just grab the drawer and take it to your workspace. Keep in mind that these drawers have hinged lids and are only about 2 1/4" deep. I just tried putting some stamps into the drawers and depending on the size of the clam shell cases I was able to put between 4-8 sets in a drawer. Hope that helps!

I have 2 Iris carts purchased at JoAnns approx 2 yrs ago with coupons. They are great! I have stamps in one and paper in the other. Both are full and I could use a couple more. I love being able to take out one or two of the drawers with hinged lids and put them in a tote bag to take with me when I go somewhere else to craft. I have them on top of one of my craft tables side by side up against a wall and stuff stored on top. No buckle. Love the hinged lids. I think I am talking myself into gettin a couple more = )

I looked at those carts at Target when I was shopping around...I liked that they have 7 shallower drawers, but I hated that they have lids. Such a pain to pull the WHOLE drawer out, find a place to set it, and then open it just to grab a stamp!

I see that a couple others have this exact cart and like that each drawer is portable...but I never bring my stuff anywhere, so the lids on the drawers were a huge drawback rather than a plus.

I have one of these and I do like it. I keep all my non SU wood block mounted stamps in them, separated as much as possible by *theme*. The drawers will hold two layers of 3/4" high stamps. The one drawback is that getting to the stamp in the back of the drawer you have to take the drawer completely out. They are very sturdy. I have a plastic shoebox of clear stamps in CD cases on the top of the cart and it seems fine. I would rate this 4 out of stars. Hope you like yours if you decide to get one.

I have several sets of the Sterilite type. Some have lids on the drawers, and others do not. I use the ones without the lids to store my individual stamps by theme. The ones with the lids are great for projects - I just load one up with all of the paper, ribbon, embellishments, punches, etc., for the particular project I am working on, so that everything is in one place and easily accessible. I always leave a few of the lidded ones empty for this purpose.

You don't actually have to remove the drawer all the way in order to open the lids, either. You can pull it out and open the lid while the drawer is still in the frame.

I have iris carts so I son't know about how sturdy, etc they are but I do love the concept. I have 7 carts for stamps. I have all my stamps in either SU clam shell boxes, CD cases, and now that I'm starting to unmount ,I have 4 1/2 x 6" matboard pieces that hold my unmounted stamps and they all fit nicely. I store my stamps by categories (birthday, butterfly, people, baby/dids, etc.) and after over 5 years, I still love the system.

I bought some of the black (I think it was sterlite, but not sure) from Lowes-those were very apt to toppling over. I returned those and got the white ones from Target: kind of like this one except it has two shallow top drawers and then one like yours, except 4 shallow drawers & one deeper drawer. The small one has only tried to topple once, when I had accidentally tried to pull out all the drawers at once, including the bottom one that is filled with magazines and books.

I have two sets of these and really like them. I keep my scrapbooking projects in one set and quilting projects in another. I like that everything remains dust-free until you have time to work on it. I do travel to work on both my scrapping and quilting so I love the lids. HTH!

I have used both Sterrilite and Iris there is a difference in the quality. I really like the Iris carts but not sterilite. If you put anything on top of the sterilite the drawers stick. There iris carts aren't like that.
