Yeah, I have seen several SU samples lately with them and wondered if they are going to have something about them in their next catty. Just another thing to look forward to in July! I am not totally against them, in the right setting. I don't like the idea of just stapling your card together!

I like them! My friends however don't. I think it does depend on the style of the card or scrapbook page. But I think they look great on distressed type stuff.

I personally do not like the look of staples. There are so many neat and cool things to use for embellishments. Why use staples? Staples do not seem "creative" to me. Makes me think of the office and work...this is fun stuff!

I haven't used stamples on anything yet...but I'm sure I will eventually.
I think they are a fun accessory on the right card/scrapbookpage.

Default Staples

We Southerners of a certain age use the expression "tacky." Pesonally, I think staples present a very unfinished look. They look as though the designer ran out of good embellishments to use so just settled for staples. I will never use them.

I can see how this is true if you work in an office, however, brads, buttons, and eyelets all came from functional beginnings as well! Something to think about...Makes you look at everything in a whole new light (like I need any more things to lay awake at night thinking about!)!!

Oh I think I like them - not used them yet, but I really like the idea of the coloured ones. I think they look best when used as an embellishment - like the quirky starburst effect - rather than just to hold stuff together. I saw a catalogue which had a card sample with staples at an angle in each corner of a square layer. I think there were 2 or 3 staples in each corner. Hmm... I know that doesn't make much sense but I know what I mean... and as soon as I find some coloured staples I'll make a card to show you!

PS Don't hold your breath - I'm not very organised.

I like staples to hold down some ribbon scraps and agree that the look is only good for certain cards. I am having a Stamp-a-stack party in a week, and showed my friend a card similar to the link below, and she did not like the staples at all. So it is an accessory that is very dividing--some like it; some don't! So I might come up with an alternative accessory for my stamp a stack class in case the majority of the people don't like staples.

I like staples, but only with a certain style of cards. In fact, I just bought the green ones at WalMart yesterday to try them out! I was browsing the gallery and found this adorable card by busystampinjen using staples. I think brads or eyelets would completely have taken away from the main focus. Love it!

I really like the staples on some cards, it just depends. Everyone talking about them as office supplies cracks me up though b/c I always think of manilla envelopes with brads, I like the look from the front but the back of them just bothers me, also sewing on paper, I think it looks cute but it is suppose to be for fabric...it just seems to me that we use all kinds of things in crafts that really are meant for something else, why should staples be different. To the original poster don't change your swaps, people will love them and staples seem to be becoming very popular.

I'm with Ibovee and Miss Missy--as a former seamstress and office worker I am less than thrilled with brads, eyelets, "sewing" on cards, and all the rest of it--including tags! However, as soon as I say I'm not keen on something, I see a card that totally turns me around.

I'm always interested in the current fad (even if it's not my favorite). I'm just glad I can play it out with little pieces of paper instead of housepaint, haircolor, etc. As far as using non SU! items (staples), I think our craft goes beyond that. It seems to be part of the adventure to reach outside "proper" crafting materials and pull them in. If we came from construction backgrounds maybe we'd be using aluminum tape (oh so cool!).

How about Magic Mesh? As a SU demo, I probably shouldn't admit it, but the "Magic Mesh" that I use for my personal projects came right off my husband's workbench. It's drywall tape!!!!

Just wanted to share:

I used a colored Sharpie on a strip of staples--this works very well, but since we don't have Sharpies in our catty (yet), I also pressed the surface of a strip into a Stazon pad, used the heat gun to speed drying and after stapling I noticed a little of the color on each end of each staple had worn off.

I always said I would never use a staple on a card. I was finishing this card though, and brads just didn't look right. I tried the stapler and thought it was the perfect finishing touch.

I really love staples. I don't limit myself to anything. I never would have thought I would be using retro colors either but I love them! I think it's whatever floats your boat! Be happy with what makes you happy but at least be open to trying new things! Here is a card I just posted in the gallery...

Default Color your own staples

Yes, like above poster (I learned this from Tim Holtz, too) you should be able to color staples with Staz-on. Try sponging on the whole strip before stapling with them. They may still show silver at the bends, but again, another part of the shabby chic, eclectic look.

I like the look of staples. It takes "skill" to line them up just right & I don't think it looks like the person just ran out of ideas and threw a staple on. I'm not any more offended by them than I am of brads, which were plain old paper fasteners from the office supply store in a previous life - or even tags or eyelets (aka grommets).

It's always fun to try new things, IMO!

I have to tell myself "never say never". When I first saw a staple on a card I thought "YUCK - tacky"! I still haven't completely warmed up to them yet and still can't imagine using them, although I have now seen some cute samples. That I said I wouldn't be surprised If I'm using them all over the place in 6 months. I'm always a little slow on trends!

DinaGriff's card is exactly what I was trying to say - although the sample I saw had coloured staples and I think they were possibly doubled up. Very cool. I'm a convert!

I had not ever thought of staples before, and my first reaction was "ew" but then I saw some of the samples, and they were very nice! I did like some of them.

For me, it's more a physical reaction to staples. I've had some bad experiences with staples, no I never stapled my finger but you catch your thumb on the backside of a staple, etc. So I tend to prefer paper clips. (You know how they say some people should stay away from sharp objects?)

So, if I can get past that icky feeling, perhaps I could get a small stapler and some colored staples and use it only for making cards sometimes, it might work.

I say each to their own and I personally like staples, infact I have been after coloured ones for ages. I dont think our stores have them over here or if they do they are vv expensive.

Anyway we are all different, thats what makes us so interesting! I say "Staple away" if thats what you want to do and never be put off using something just because someone else doesnt like it. I just wish I could find some to play with.

Right off over to the BST board, anyone want tea for coloured staples?

I'm not a staple lover either. But............things change, that's what makes life interesting.

Caz, I get my tea when I go home to Canada. Me thinks they use the bottom of the tea barrell when making the tea they sell in the US. Anyway I don't feel the need to make the trade.

Note, I spelled COLOUR our way

I didn't understand the whole staple thing until I was coming up with ideas for my stamp camp saturday. I wanted to try something new so I staples black plaid gingham to a tag and I have to say that I just love it. I hope that everyone else loves this different look. Now that I have actually used a staple on a card I just love them.

Default Staples and a RED stapler! (Office Space reference)

Just think about this:
When you're using several embellishments already (randomly: ribbon, crimper, and a Dimensional....) don't you think it would be a bit much to add a brad or ribbon? Think about staples in a way that adds an extra punch, without overloading a customer with tons of accessories. I know that I freak when I see those cards with tons of stuff used and think "Well, I can't remake this card because I don't have any of that stuff!"
If you use staples in this way, I think that both customers and fellow demos will "see the light." Just my opinion.
I've done several cards with staples:
