Has anyone had a problem with the writing end of the markers. I have had my markers for a while and I use them quite a bit for stamping classes and open stamping plus my own projects. A lot of the brush tips are getting frayed, but I've noticed that many of the writing ends are no longer working. I constantly tell people at my classes not to use the writing end to color, but they still do. I think the writing end is going bad because people are using them for coloring. Has anyone else found this to be the case, or are they just getting used up and the writing end is the first thing to go dry. Even one of my newer markers if having this problem. I don't want to have to replace all of the markers already, but I'm sick of them not working when I want to use them, so I may buy a second set just for my use. Please share your thoughts.
Are you storing your markers so that they're laying on their side? If not, it may be that all of the ink is pooloing in the brush end and your writing end is dry. I did this once (stored my case the wrong way) but it was easily fixed by placing all the markers on their side for a couple of days so that the ink could be evenly re-distributed again.
I have had mine since last February and I don't have that problem. maybe you should contact your demo and see what can be done (if it turns out they are defective)
Good Luck!
sometime in 2004. I have always stored them on their sides. I've just noticed the writing ends being dried on in the last month or two. If you have had problems with them as new as they are, I would definitely call DS.
I have a few that the colors on each end appear different. I colored a 'hand stamped by' stamp with the brush end and wrote my name with the writing end and the colors looked different. Hmmmm, how could this be???
My writing ends are getting "old" and "scratchy" and they're splattering. I've only had them since July. I NEVER use this end for coloring.
I have found that some, but not all, of my markers have this the first few times I use them. After writing with them a few times, they work beautifully. But, if you've been using them since July and they are still doing it, I'd place a call just for the heck of it.

I was wondering about this too. This happened to my Night of Navy marker. The brush end is fine, the writing end doesn't work; I just got the case of markers in October & store them in the case on their sides. I have not "colored" with the writing end either.

The writing end of a number of my markers are also giving real problems. I have always stored them on the side. My black marker for example, will just not write The brush end of all of them is perfect - not frayed and full of ink? I have had them for about 3 years now. What can I do when it's only a few that give a problem?
I love my markers and I have 2 sets. I actually went through my first set about 2 years ago. The brush tips became very frayed and the writing ends didn't work at all. I laid them flat in their case......I've always stored double-tipped markers horizontally. I don't know what to do........I love those brush tips and to me, I guess it was worth it to have them. I have a set that just customers use and one just for myself (so, yes, I actually owned one set, then bought 2 more....DS actually replaced one set because the tips had frayed within 6 months of buying them). I recently went to use the writing tips on some of the markers in my newest set (which DS replaced a couple years ago) and they didn't work. I've never actually used ANY of the writing tips and this was the first time. Like I said, I've always laid them flat.....so I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Any suggestions??? The brush tips are also fraying on this newer set, too.

I think SU may have a real problem on their hands with their markers as mine are the exact same way as a lot of you have stated: frayed on the brush end and dry on the writer end. I purchased my set in 2005 and most of the colors I don't even use. Shortly after I got my set I discovered that many of the writer ends were dry, I went through and tested my whole set and A LOT of them were dry. I thought about contacting DS about it but I didn't figure they would replace the whole set and since I don't really use the writer end of most of the colors, I didn't do anything about it. Now I read all of your posts and think if this is the way all of our sets are, they have a problem. Hopefully SU will see this thread? And maybe offer to do something about it? They are quite a bit of money to invest in to just throw away.
Mine are about 18 months old, well used and no problems at all ( now that I just totally jinxed myself) Any chance things changed recently in their production?
Gosh, mine are three or four years old and I have never had this problem!! Maybe it is a recent batch gone bad? I have had one writing tip dry up, barely banana, but I fixed it with a reinker (and it is really too light to write with anyway, so it didn't bother me too much!) I NEVER use my writing tips for coloring in, though and I always store them on the side! I am NOT a demo, though and I think demos' markers don't last near as long when they get so much more use!

I've had my set since 1997 and one of the blues (Brocade blue, I think) is frayed at the end, and I replaced Garden Green a couple of years ago because it got frayed, but that one was because I USED it a LOT! I rarely use the writing end as they are thicker than I like them to be, but I do occaisionally us them to color in small areas. I'll have to check those ends out!. But, I would venture to say I have gotten my money's worth after all these years and I do use them alot! (I store them horizontally now, but I did not do that for the first couple of years.) I have only 4 in the more recent color like Bliss Blue etc. I will have to watch them.

I have had mine for over a year now and they are still going strong. I am careful to use the side of the brush end when inking up a stamp, and have no fraying, yet. Well, except for the red one my 3yo ds colored with. I have noticed my writing tip is usually darker than the brush tip. I think this is because the ink in the writing tip comes out more concentrated, since the hole is so small, but that is just a guess. I can honestly say I use my markers quite a bit and wouldn't trade them for anything!!
I watch how my class attendees use them and I see some of them put more pressure on and don't color with the side of the brush, but no matter how any times I tell them, they don't change the way they use it. I guess I will just have to get a second set to keep for myself. I just don't understand what's going on with the writing end. The first one that I noticed was Elegant Eggplant and that is one of my newer markers because it's one of the newer colors. Another is real red and it's one I replaced already because the brush was so frayed and the writing end wouldn't work. Well now it's the second one having those problems. I use the markers a lot in my classes, especially the brush end, but how do I get customers to be easier on them.
I've had mine 2 years and my writing ends have always splattered. It's really annoying. Sometime the writing ends will seem dry, but I'll stand them up on that end for a minute and then the ink gets to flowing in the direction I want it to.
I still love the SU markers though!
My markers are working pretty well - But if either end seems like it's drying up, I flick it like you would an old mercury thermometer and that seems to get the ink flowing again.
I placed my order last night for a second complete set of Stampin' Write markers. I will check them all out when I get them to see how the tips go. These I will keep strictly for my use.
I am really after my customers to use the SIDE of the brush and not the end. So far, so good. As for drying out, I called DS and they said I could reink them - very carefully! I used my tweezers to carefully pull out the tip by the small piece of plastic. Then add ONE drop of reinker color. I let mine sit tip side down for a day or so to get the ink in the tip. Worked fine for me.
