I was surprised to see the lack of ribbon in the new catalog. Basically in color and a few others. What if you want ribbon for the 4 basic Catagories. I am so bummed.

Hmmmmm.....must not be big sellers any more. I know people seem to be using them less and less on cards. Lots of washi or twine still. I still love my ribbon and buttons!
The people who get our cards won't know if they are out of style! There is a new thread asking about everyone's use of ribbon.
I'm glad I have lots of SU ribbon to hold me over....I think it's enough for a lifetime!
I was wondering if they'd cut back on ribbon and buttons.

I still use ribbons and buttons on most projects. I will buy the new ribbons because I love them, but I still have buttons and retired SU ribbons I can enjoy, too. Maybe the smaller selection will allow everyone to use up their stash! And then when the next big catty rolls around, there will be more choices again!
So sad that there is so little ribbon and twine in Cherry Cobbler. It is a fav of mine. Hoping the next holiday catalog will have some more. I bought a lot of the Cherry Cobbler thick bakers twine prior to its retirement, so I am well stocked for next Christmas.
I'm wondering if they cut back on those items because of the new USPS rules. No bumps or you have to pay extra to mail your card. I know in my case, buttons and most ribbon add bumps. And they may be selling fewer of them.
Didn't know about those new rules! DH is a retired postal worker and he says it's because anything "flat" like envelopes go through sorting machines and maybe they have updated the machines. I quit mailing stuff with buttons a few years ago, but I will use them and bulkier ribbon on hand delivered cards.
I think we will see some replacement items in the holiday catalog for several things that surprisingly retired like the craft scissors and scoring stylus.

I always mail bumpy things without any trouble. I slide it through the slot in my paper trimmer, which is a 1/4" wide, and if it sticks at all, I add the extra postage. If it goes right through, I use a regular stamp. I have asked recipients if my cards make it ok and with the exception of one person (and it has happened multiple times with this same person, so it probably is her local post office) all have made it ok.
If you pay the extra postage for weight, size, etc. the envelopes are classified as non machinable so they shouldn't be processed through the sorters and hopefully don't get damaged. We used to call it hand cancelled - I pay overage on most of my cards between all the layers and embellishments.

I do think that a lot of people are trending towards a more clean and simple style these days so maybe it's not selling as well? I'm ok with the downsize since there are lots of other fun embellishments I want ;-) I agree that maybe the PO restrictions may have something to do with it as well. Plus, I think the CAS thing is just kind of like any trend or style and has just come around again after all the layers, fussiness, shabby type style that's kind of waned again. And don't forget the the seasonal catalogs will probably have some fun/pretty ribbon!
Edited to add: I also think that they have done away with offering so much in EVERY color so they can offer more things in general. If they offer ribbon in all 40 colors (or any embellishment), that takes up 40 spaces on the pick line. If they reduce those to only some they can offer x-amount of other/new products. Does that make sense?

Same here! I still mail bumpy mail without a problem! If it seems extra thick I have them check it at the counter.
I don't mind paying a little extra to mail my cards since each card has probably cost me $100's!! Ha Ha!
