I'm going to share my thoughts because it hasn't been that long ago that I was the newbie here, not posting much, with some of the very same questions rattling around my head, so I think I understand the OP. Only I wasn't as bold to post all the questions I may have had.
My first few months here at SCS was a learning experience in many different ways. Not only was I learning about all things stamping, I was learning about the many, many different companies out there and the role they did or didn't play here. I didn't understand why SU was such a HUGE deal here until I started reading threads and resources to try and find out. I didn't even like SU at the time, so it kind of irked me. But, as I spent more and more time, seeing all the fantastic cards and projects made with SU, I quickly added SU to my list of favorites.
The OP may or may not be in a similar boat, but I just wanted to share a different perspective for those of you who have been SU fans from the get-go.
WOW! I seem to have gotten quite a reaction to my post. I was just curious why SU was getting all the attention they did. I haven't had a lot of time to participate and haven't been a member for very long so I was not aware of the origins of the site or the connection to SU. Thanks for enlightening me. It totally makes sense now.
Curiosity killed the cat and in this case the put downs and nasty remarks by some of the other members in response to my question has definitely killed my deisre to participate in anything on this site.
I will be cancelling my registration with Splitcoast and going somewhere friendlier - where people aren't quite as judgemental and I don't have to worry about whether I have an avatar or a gallery or how many posts I've made.
I do apologize, Buttercup...right now emotions are running a bit high and we have had some activity from people who like to make trouble. After dealing with that, I might have...er..."shot from the hip" when I should not have.
It was certainly not my intent to drive away anyone who has a legitimate interest in sticking around the website, enjoying it's finer qualities, and possibly even venturing into posting to their own gallery. Hope you stick around!
For the record, I hope Buttercup76 sticks around as well. I've enjoyed the time I've spent on SCS over the past few years. I think the site is awesome!

I have a low number count as well. I come here every day and like to read the posts, but rarely comment. I have been a paying member from the start. I don't have much of a gallery, it's not high on my priority list to upload and as a matter of fact, I don't have a camera and have to have my husband do the picture taking for me. Most of the time, I don't take pictures of what I produce. I really am computer literate, but just not that interested or confident in sharing, I guess. I am sorry for the way you were treated. There are people here that are pleasant and then there are some who attack. I am learning that it comes with this type of setting.
I am sorry if you felt that questioning why you where asking that particular question at this particular time was a put down or nasty remark. It has been a long week around here, with lots of negativity towards Stampin' Up!. I reacted towards your post in light of all that. If I was wrong, I am truly sorry.
I have been a member on this board for about two years and visited often long before that. It is only recently that I have added a gallery. My post count is climbing mainly brcause I participate in the challenges and the gallery comments thread. Even though I am not the most active member, I love splitcoaststampers. It is my happy place and I enjoy my time here tremendously. This past week it has not been such a happy place. Negative Stampin' Up! comments were flying everywhere about the intent of a business decision that they made. It has disrupted every aspect of this board and I am frustrated with this. I am ready to get back to our regularly scheduled program. This is why I reacted the way I did. The thought of another Stampi' Up! bashing thread was more than I could take. Again, I apologize if you felt I was rude or nasty. I did not mean to hurt anyone's feelings, I just was questioning the timing of this particular post.
Things will settle down here, they always do. I hope you will give it another chance, this is really a great place, with tons of talented people who are so generous with their time and expertise.

I hope you will reconsider too, Buttercup. There are so many truly friendly and wonderful people here.
I know that my SU demo referred me here -but she has told me that though she comes here frequently for the demo side and also for card ideas in the rest of the gallery - she has never posted.
Some people just don't like to post. My demo is a lovely person. I think she just does not have the time or the desire to get involved in Split Coast stuff.
So don't think that you are alone in not posting much - or having a gallery.

Just wanted to say that I have bichon / poodle mix. I'm guessing that you have a bichon too? We had a border terrier for 15 years - and when he passed away in the summer of 2008 - we went to a shelter and adopted our darling Bichon/ poodle mix! She is so affectionate and personable!! She had already been through 2 homes and at the shelter for over a month. It took a lot of work to help her get rid of her separtion anxiety - but oh boy - is she worth it!!
Bichon's are truly lovely dogs!!
You know - every card is welcome on Split Coast! Should you ever choose to upload - just PM me and I'll make certain to comment on your cards ! I've never seen a card yet that I didn't love! I understand if that's not your thing though. I was quite scared when I posted my first card!;)
Yes, isn't it interesting that the people who seem to be most bothered, the ones who always show up when there is any negativity concerning SU!, are the ones with the lowest post counts and NO GALLERY? They have very little of themselves invested here, can only be described as visitors, really and yet they feel they should be able to dictate how this site is run?
Reminds me of my teenage years when I was a member of the church choir. Some vocal members of the choir would make disparaging comments about parishioners who only showed up for Easter or Christmas services. Is it any wonder that I no longer wanted to be affiliated with these "holier than thou" church members?
Since when is it considered "negative" to ask questions?

I don't believe that's what she meant hon... I think she was referring to a lot of negativity in another thread (one I chose to no longer be apart of).
I really hope nobody decides to leave SCS... it is THE best website to learn about stamping IMO.

In her defence, Butterflcup76 is listed as a member since April, 08, so I don't think that in any way she could be suspected as someone 'joining under a new name' to create problems. People's feelings are pretty touchy right now, and someone coming in to ask a simple question may not realize the history behind the animosities.
I very much appreciate the time and effort that 'da Tink' and others are making to keep things straight, but sometimes even they may jump at shadows.
I wasn't really talking about people like you, Deborah. You have a gallery, heck you have an AVATAR with your OWN picture and a link to your own gallery where people can see what you are all about! You don't have a funny little anonymous name, with fewer than 40 posts or so, no avatar, no gallery and no clue as to who you really are. You have spent some time here and are part of the community. These other folks...not so much.
ANd thanks for the compliment on my blog! Between the time I spend stamping and the time I spend blogging about it, it's a miracle I get the housework done that I get done...though...ahem...it isn't all that MUCH housework, when I think about it.
Deborah's a real person ... she even looks like her avatar! We had coffee together in August! And she gave me an awesome card! I wish I could colour!

You are too kind Gail! Glad you like my card! I sooo enjoyed meeting you!! Wm is at his first day of second year at UBC - but he is working p/t in the bookstore at UBC during the rush - so I've yet to see him tonight!!

You know, I think this was a really offensive post. I am one of those members with a low post count and NO GALLERY. I stamp for my own personal enjoyment. I am not trying to be on a DT, nor am a Demo for any company. I do have a blog but only have a total of 7 posts and have not posted in over a year. I come to this site to learn about new products and techniques... not to make a name for myself in the stamping community. I DO THIS HOBBY FOR FUN... nothing more.

If you had read further, you will see that I apologized. Sorry again...

"I'm sorry if...." is the famous non-apology apology. "I didn't do anything wrong, you just took it the wrong way." "I'm sorry you got upset."
Some of the SU people around here have been getting upset at what they perceive as "bashing the company". In this case, it was an individual who got bashed, undeservedly. Wild accusations and suppositions were flying, all with little provocation except a perception that anyone who doesn't post regularly is only here to be a trouble maker. For what was posted here, maybe more than a non-apology apology was warranted.
Somehow I doubt she'll be buying much SU in the future.

I swear we are good people!! You just happened to get caught in whirlwind. Please give the site another chance.
Also, in Jan's defense she has been one of the people trying to give the demo side of things regarding the SU! changes and that is not always an easy thing to do here. I know her apology is sincere.
