I love my SAMJ but hate that every time I want to use it, i have to pull out the transparency, stamp on it, then line it up, so I thought, why not make a template for my favorite sets! I cut the transparency sheets to fit into the plastic containers that my stamps are stored in. now, I am one step closer to a finished card! I'm sure that lots of people have already thought of this but I have to admit that I am pretty proud of myself! :-D :-D :-D
I do this too, and for stamp sets that I use a lot of masking for I stamp the image on acetate and glue it on cardstock to make it firmer then cut it out. I can use temporary adhesive and place the mask anywhere I want stamp on top of it then clean it off. The truck shows the stamp-a-jig sheet I use, and the mask with and without the window.
Friends are like the walls of a house. Sometimes they hold you up, sometimes you lean on them. But sometimes, it's enough to know they're just standing by.
I have the stamp a ma jig. I dont have the template just the the big purple part. Can someone please tell me how I would use the template with them.
what the plastic sheet is for, you butt it up against the right angle on the purple arm, then take your stamp, ink it up then stamp it in the right angle corner right onto your template sheet. Then remove the sheet, use it for placement wherever you want on the card. Then put the purple arm back into place where the the template is sitting. Then move the plastic sheet, ink up your stamp again and stamp at that right angle corner again, your stamp will be right where you want it to be at. Just be sure not to move the purple arm around when stamping.

btw, my mom uses window sheets for her stamps with her SAMJ, she just cuts them into pieces that are managable, then lays those down instead of the plastic sheet it comes with. They are thinner then the sheet, but as long as you don't slide them up under the arm they work great. She just sticks this in with the stamp set as well (similar to vellum), but a bit more weight to them.

I've been doing this for a while and have been using trash (yes, real trash) to make my permanent SAMJ templates!
I use the thicker clear plastic that comes on the packaging from toys, electronics, etc. Why? Well, it's thicker than the window sheets and I find that it "buts up against" the SAMJ much better with less slippage. And it doesn't hurt that it's free.
I cut squares out of the discarded plastic, line up the square plastic into the SAMJ, use stazon ink to stamp my image, then I can leave it in the box with my set.
I keep a little baggie of pieces of plastic that I've recycled for the next set that I need to line up (just did "So Very")!
These are great ideas... My demonstrator showed us how to use the tool, but I was still intimidated by it... but I love this idea. Esp because I wanted to start using my alphabet stamps more in the boys scrapbooks!! Great tips!!! Thanks so much for sharing.
So perfect!! Thanks for the tip! I know that I've saved masking images but never thought of this. Anything to save just a little bit of time helps... TFS

What a great idea. I use my SAMJ almost everytime I stamp. Whenever I want to use a light color ink I can't see it on the transparency. I usually stamp the transparency with a darker color first. I have a bunch of transparency from Staples. I may have to try to make permanent ones with Staz-On. Thanks for sharing this great idea.
I don't have all my stamps kept in the sets but I every time I have to make a new template I use pre-cut squares of x-ray film I get from someone and I put the name of the stamp set on the square with a Sharpie Pen, stamp in Staz-On and then I put a red dot on the stamp so that any time I pick up that stamp I know I have a template already. I keep the templates in a little box in alphabetical order. It's been really handy.
