I'm thinking about purchasing the stamp-a-ma-jig by SU and was wondering if I really need it. I'm also getting ready to purchase the SU Pretty Peony set and was thinking the stamp-a-ma-jig would be essential. Any thoughts? Is it really necessary for 2-step stamping placement?

Love mine and it's really great for those times when a stamp doesn't ink everything the way you want. Just line up the stamp-a-ma-jig and it's perfect! No one knows you made a mistake! Wouldn't be without it.

You should absolutely get it. I don't know how I lived so long without it. I would spend so much time making a card and then mess it up when I would stamp the saying crooked. Now I don't ever have to worry about that happening.
It's great for embossing using classic ink: position SAMJ, ink with classic ink, line up with SAMJ and stamp. Leave SAMJ in place and clean off stamp. Reink with versamark, line up and stamp again, then emboss...the versamark image will be lined up exactly with the inked image.
IMHO the Stamp-a-Ma-Jig is one of those tools you debate back and forth about getting, keep putting off purchasing, then finally give in, use it once and wonder what took you so long to purchase it!!!
The Stamp-A-Ma-Jig os one of those things that you don't know how you lived without it once you use it! If you use the alphabets stamps at all this is an absolute must....so much easier to position the letters. I find it quite useful when using the Cold Play stamp set (perfect placement of eyes, noses, hats, etc). Can't say enough about this wonderful tool!!!
For a year now, I've been pondering whether or not I should have the SAMJ...after reading all these comments...and I think You all convinced me to just get it

Me too! Putting this in with my March order now. Thanks for the input and to the poster who started the thread.

I think the SAMJ is a great tool, but you can probably buy it somewhere else cheaper than SU! Joann's just had it a couple of weeks ago for $6.99. It's the manufacturer's purple color and not the all black SU! custom color, but it's the same tool. It really is helpful to place your stamps -- I held out for a long time before buying it but picked up for a low price, around $6.50, and I've really like it. I do buy the SU! cardstock vellum to use and place with my stamps. Check out Ms. Werner's tutorial blog on that -- that's one of the best ideas I've gotten from a blog. The link to her tutorial is: http://revver.com/video/459173/how-t...tamp-a-ma-jig/
didn't think i needed it but once i had it, don't know how I lived without it.....its a must, yours cards just look better.....it took me to a new level
It's a fantastic tool and a must for a stamper. Especially good for lining up stamps that aren't the full length of the card and you have to join the image.

I had mine a year before I used it..now I just can't (ok won't) stamp without it! love it..sell it all the time..it's one of those indespensible tools..
I think the idea of the stampamajig is great like everyone says. One of my friends said you can make the same kind of thing with some lego making a right angle and then some sheets of acetate if you really wanted to save money. I haven't done it yet because we are still at the Duplo stage and I don't want to give any up, not even for stamping!
Wow! Thank you ALL for your input. It looks like the Stamp-a-ma-jig wins, hands down!! No question, I need this! I feel better about purchasing one, now. With all these recommendations, who wouldn't get one! Thanks again.

When I got mine I wondered how I ever stamped without it! An absolute must have for me. I love that it let's me use my non clear alpha stamps in perfectly straight lines.
WOW! I'm inspired to try to use mine again. I've had it for years and it is buried in the closet. I'll get it out and see if I can make it my must have tool!!!
I love mine, I also used some heavy duty clear plastic to make myself some extra sheets to keep on hand.
Another idea along the same lines...for sets that I am constantly using the SAMJ on, like 2 step sets, get some extra heavy duty clear plastic, stamp the images that you are reguarly using with Stazon, then keep the plastic pieces in the box with the stamps- that way you'll already ahve what you need, ready for use!
I now save all of that heavy clear plastic that companies use for packaging. Like the plastic the cuttle bug folders come in. Trim to a perfect square and you have a stamping sheet to use with the SAMJ. Wouldn't it be neat to have one pre-stamped and ready to go, stored in the box with all of your most frequently used sets!?!

My 'jig' is home made. Two blocks of wood stuck together to give the 90 degree angle and I use vellum for positioning. I made 'index sheets' to keep in the cases with two step sets and just cut small squares if I want to use the jig to position other stamps.

I saw a similar trick somewhere. Someone made it with the larger size Lego blocks to create the right angle. Works just fine. There are lots of materials you can use for the positioning sheets.

I bought the set Never Ending Joy from SU and was having a terrrible time getting the flowers to line up the way I wanted them to. I just got my stampamajig at my LSS for $9.99 on sale. I'll let you know how it works but by the sounds of it every one seems pretty happy with theirs.
How have I managed to exist this long without one of these?!
I must have one! I must have one now!
OK, it's 8:30pm on a Tuesday...I guess it'll have to wait...
But thanks for all the great posts and the links to the videos! I have to admit, I had never quiiiiite visualized how they worked. I was missing the stamping the image on vellum step and thought you just used it to position your stamp...which is fine, unless you're like me and half your stamps are mounted just barely crooked.
