Hi everyone! I recently got started with stamping/cardmaking again, after being out of the game for about 10 years! This past week, I found a cheap big shot and some cheap Spellbinders nestabilities. I tried using them tonight but when I turned them over to emboss what I had cut, it didn't work well. I followed the sandwich instructions on the cutting mat. I even watched a couple YouTube videos earlier! I know I need to make a magnetic mat but gotta find some cheap first, and I need to buy masking tape again. Any tips? Tia!
Let's see if I can remember the sandwich...Thick base plate Closed? The clear plate, gelly like embossing pad, paper, die and a solid dark embossing pad. Is this right? You do not need a magnetic plate or pad. I use washi tape or painters tape if I need to hold anything in place.
I've never used a magnetic mat for embossing. Let me go try...
Do you have one of those rubber gasket type sheets, silicone rubber?
I've just tried cutting a Spellbinders die, and then embossing with the sandwich on mine which may be an older platform than yours. I've used the sandwich for a metal stencil, using the multipurpose platform, tab 1, die with paper in it, silicone rubber and the black impressions pad, and it looks great. It's too much pressure to try putting it through with the two clear plates so if you don't have the impressions pad, I'm not sure what to suggest. The silicone rubber helps with the embossing, I use it in my old Wizard too.
What are the sandwich instructions on your platform?
I have tried the 'proper' instructions: cut the cardstock with the die, then run it through again with a rubber mat, so that it will emboss the edge. I just got frustrated with all that and after I cut the cardstock, I remove it from the Big Shot with the die still on the cut-out cardstock, then turn it over and run my (not sharp) bone folder around the edge creating a crisp embossed edge. This works for all the open Label-type dies not the flowers and such.
I'm missing the rubber sheet you all are referring to! Thanks for the help.
Can I get that at any craft store?
Not living in the US, I can't advise on this, though I am sure someone else will. There's something you can get in DIY supplies stores that will do as a perfect substitute, some sort of rubber gasket which I don't think we have in stores here.
