Default sorta non-stamping related thank you

So, I'm trying to find a SIMPLE pattern to make a simple purse (I could probably do it myself, just want a pattern/instructions so I don't waste quilted material and/or time).

Most everyone out there wants you to pay for their patterns. The sewing world is NOT like the stamping world. Sure, there are people out in the stamping world that charge for their very detailed instructions w/lots of photos (and I've bought some and they were almost all well worth the price!), but there are also SO MANY blogs and places like SCS that have fantastic tutorials for free.

We have it so good here with all the resources at our fingertips! I don't think there has ever been a time when I've wanted to learn how to do something just right that I couldn't find it here on SCS in the resources or in the challenge forums. If it wasn't there, it only took a few minutes to post a question on the forums (or PM a member who posted a gorgeous creation) and then WHAM! answers galore!

So thank you to all of you who share your creations AND will help someone out who just wants to learn and do a good job!

now. . . I'm off to try and figure out just how to make the purse I want. I'd better go find the seam ripper before I start! LOL!

Quick link here to a wee bag tutorial on my blog, I'm guessing it's maybe not the size you want but it is free! LOL, and you might like it!! And it's stampable!

I have a fantastic super easy quilted tote I'd be happy to scan the directions and email them to you. I have made it in a ton of different sizes and people love them. Let me know if you would like it or PM me an email. I might not be able to get to it until tomorrow tho as it's wind down time here with the kids

Ladies I'm sorry. I looked through all my quilting stuff...no easy feat, and only found the supply list. I can do it in my sleep but doubt I can write the directions.

Here is a link to the creator's store. She is fantastic. I've met her, taken classes from her and she is local to me. The pattern is definitely worth the $8.50, assuming you don't also fall in love with one of her fabric lines

Again I'm sorry. It really is simple though. You basically quilt a small blanket, cut two strips from that, build the bucket of the tote (the steps teach you how to get it symmetrical) and the strips become the handles. I've reworked the sizes to even make a small lunch bag and purse.

Hope this helps a little. And I hope you get as addicted as I am to it...I've made well over 75 :-0 and I've only been quilting for about 10 years;-)

Hey, Victoria--don't worry about it! There sure are some gorgeous quilting patterns on that sight!

If you ever happen across it, think of me! Otherwise, don't lose any sleep over it! LOL!

I have the pattern for this tote/purse that was made with charm squares. You could just use one fabric and use the bag measurements instead of using the charm squares. You will have to PM me your email address because I don't think you can attach things to PMs here.

Default Another perspective

I hear what you're saying. However, I just wanted to present you with the other side. My mom used to own a quilting store. It takes the people who design those patterns alot of time. For them, it's a source of income. We don't get our stamps for free, so why should they design patterns for free. Some stores do give away free patterns with a purchase, but by and large the patterns are made by designers. Much like our stamps. I don't like to cough up for patterns anymore than you do, but I do know they are very time consuming, more so than a card pattern.

Oh, I know you are right, sthoeny,. . . it is just SO amazing how willing people here are to share their ideas and techniques! I do know how much work is put into making those patterns. . . even one for stamping--have you ever bought one of Becky Roberts/Inking Idaho's tutorials? They are soooo worth the few dollars she charges!

Thanks for all of the help w/my purse! Love the links!
