Default Solution to SU!'s sinking ink pads.

I have had a couple of PM's and e-mails asking for my solution to my new SU! ink pads that sink in the middle. I just thought I'd post it again for those that missed it the first time around.

I just put my DH's engineering mind to work on it. I explained the problem and he fixed it. Just cut some corrugated cardboard (in irony from the box your SU! orders come in) into squares small enough to fit inside the lid of your pad. I had DH cut 12 of them. You have to use two at a time, so you can have 6 pads in use if you have 12. OK, now once you have the cardboard cut, open your pad and before you slide the lid under the pad to start stamping, slip two of the squares inside the lid and then slide it under. Make sure to remove the cardboard before closing the pad after use. I just store mine in a drawer, handy for use.

There may be other materials you can use, but this was what my DH came up with and I love it because I'm cheap!

Let me also note that I would never go back to the old pads. I love the new size and that they corrected the inconsistencies with the colors.

I am going to try this! I am not getting good results inking my canvas BG stamp and this would probably help.

Couple of questions!
Why do you use two pieces of cardboard instead of one? I'm envisioning that the space to insert them is so tight you attack from each end???

And dimensions? Are your cardboard squares 1.5" or does it matter so long as they will tuck into the lid?!

Thanks for the tip! I'm hoping this will work for me!!!

just a tip for the Canvas background stamp. Use a rubber brayer on your ink pad, and then ink up your stamp that way. SO much better, and then you don't get any lines fromt he edges of the ink pad. Wish I would have known this a few years ago, that is the ONLY way to ink up a background stamp.

You know, I can never get this to work. Am I doing something wrong? My background stamp never gets inky enough when I use my brayer. It's a great idea though, so if anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them.

My squares of cardboard are roughly 2"x2". The reason for two of them is that you stack them up, not end to end. You really only need to support the middle. This lets you ink up any kind of background or large stamp. The stamp I was using when I got so frustrated that I asked for a solution was the wisemen stamp in the Star of Wonder set. I was making 100 Christmas cards, so a brayer would have been too time consuming.

It's nice being married to an engineer! They think outside of the stamping box I find myself in.
