I think she’s saying that if the envelope for a slimline card is more then 1/4” thick it will need additional postage just as any other standard envelope more then 1/4” thick would.

I made my own template for 1/4" thickness: I used heavy cardboard, and cut a slit 1/4" in the 'center. Then I check nearly all my cards by sliding them in through the slit and if it slides easily it is fine and won't need additional postage. If I have to push it through I don't chance the receiver having to pay so I just use the additional ounce stamp. Currently I think the price for that stamp is 20 cents. I keep a couple of books on hand for those cards, usually ones with extra bling. The additional ounce jumped 5 cents on January 24, 2021 as it was only 15 cents. Regular postage is 55 cents at this time but talk is, it will increase soon. My SU demonstrator said she never has to use extra postage when she adds bling... but my post office advises it.

**If approved, first class rate will go to 58 cents at the end of August. Several new forevers coming during June, so might be prudent to buy now

Yes if Envies are more than 1/4 inch thick they require extra ounce as was noted above-that is clever to make one's own tool to check it! I want to do that.
New forevers coming? Yay! I am a weirdo who likes to have stamps that try to match the subject of my cards (like flowers stamps for flower cards) so I have a small collection building now. Sadly they keep discontinuing my fav of the year and I dont want to bulk up on everything I like-that turns into money.

I seldom add extra postage for my cards unless it's REALLY bulky. Just drop in the mail slot and off it goes. Never have had a card returned for postage....including international. Learned early on in this cardmaking adventure...don't ask at the USPS desk...they ALWAYS charge you more!

Super great idea! I don’t think I’ve ever made a card thicker than 1/4 inch, but it’s good to have a tool that tests for that!

I have an old Fiskars paper trimmer and the slot where the cutting blade glides is 1/4" thick. I slip my cards in their envelopes through that and if it goes through without sticking, then it gets no additional postage. That additional postage is rarely needed.

Would the recipient of your card be charged for "postage due?"

Yes...the recipient does have to pay. Sometimes leaving a note and you have to pick up at the post office. Or on the rural routes, an envelope was left with the amount. Then you are on the honor system to pay. Putting it in the envelope, sealing it up and leaving for the next pick up day in the mailbox.
