My wonderful and thoughtful sister sent me multple packets of matching brads, eyelets, and those TINY 3/4 of an inch safety pins. I'm thrilled about the brads and eyelets, but must confess that I have no idea what to do with those safety pins. I know some people use them to pin multiple pieces of ribbon to cards, but I tend to keep most of my cards clean and simple.
Please, PLEASE post links to any examples you would like to share of your own work, or others, using the tiny safety pins. Non-card items are fine, too.
If you go to Gallery and in the search box type in 'safety pins' it will come up with some pages of cards. Also, if you type in 'diaper pins' it will come up with some more cards. Hope you can find something in there that will give you ideas. Cute stuff!
Letteringmama--thanks for the suggestion. I often do searches. I have no idea why I didn't think of it for this!
buggainok--Love the way you have attached the tag with the pin. The saying you chose is cute, too. Like the embossed background.
laurakj--Nice color combo, very soft. That bear is so cute.Is that a double ribbon tab you have attached with the pin?
Jelly Bean--I like the way you have the two pins laid out, sort of crossing each other. Your alternating use of the letters in the circles and the eyelets is also very catchy.
Thanks for sharing. I'm starting to see some possibilities. Anyone else want to share?
It's 2 pieces of ribbon folded over separately and the pin kinda goes through the larger ribbon with the small one pulled through. So the pin doesn't actually "do" anything. KWIM?
Here's a cutie I made for my friend who had twins. I accidentally dropped it and ruined the corner. Luckily, she's the kind of stamper that will like it anyway! Wild About Two by lbirus at Splitcoaststampers
ibirus--Now THAT is clever--putting diapers on gators! That card is so cute that your friend will never notice the bent corner--she'll be too busy grinning about the fun card. Great color combo--and inspired image.
MotherMark-Wow! I didn't realize that you could make a simple safety pin look so elegant. This quilt and snowflake card is amazing. You have way more patience than I do--and way more talent, too. That card should be framed.
Smitty2004- I like the idea of using the pin to hang a tag (I've noticed that some other posters have done that, too). It shows me that it is a good way to use the pin without needing to incorporate it into a baby card (although this particular card IS a baby card.) I like the way the main image and the tag mimic each other in style. Bold and fun!
Cayne and Cole's Mom--I had already spotted your Summer Babies card. What drew me first were the soft, pretty colors. It was later that I noticed the safety pin! Love that decorated bag, too. I like the idea of essentially doing a card front and attaching it to a brown paper bag. What a great idea! I like the subtle way you have worked those little safety pins into all of those cards.
Duckwaddlequack - Who couldn't love those ducks?!? I feel so *underprivileged* not having a Michael's, Archiver's, Hobby Lobby, etc. near me--LOL. I've sure seen some cute stamps from those places listed here. I love the bold color combo you used on this card and how you made the safety pins a bold part of that.
Thanks, everyone, for sharing. Keep those ideas and links coming. I work mostly with people who are past the baby stage, but not to the grandbaby stage, so would like to see more ideas about using the safety pins on things other than baby cards. But--PLEASE--continue to post your baby cards. They are too fun to miss!!
I know you said not necessarily baby cards, it just seems they are a fun embellishment for a baby theme. So here is another baby card with a safety pin:
11Valerie11--I'm SO glad you shared that baby card. That pin adds the perfect finishing touch to a perfect card. Love Anna's new set, and what you have done with it. The colors are so vibrant, the layout delicious. That long, narrow format for the card works just right with that long, horizontal image. Inspired.
Jeanstamping2 - Another good use of the safety pin! Also, your use of the mesh on the top of the card ties in PERFECTLY with the gingham ribbon and gingham DP on the diaper. It gives the overall feeling of GINGHAM. Very cute card.
Here is one I used a teeny safety pin to hang the window word tag from my ribbon: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers it could be a birthday or baby card (I thought)
ETA: lol after looking at all the examples (all so cute) I see my idea is not so original!

I never even thought to put safety pin in the keywords - sheesh I learn something new every day on SCS!

I have one from last fall with a tiny baby blue safety pin. The colors are very similar to the sample on p. 20 in the Spring Summer Idea Book/Stampin Up catalog!
jailbirdstamper--cute hippos! Love the hippo DP in the background, too. It looks like the word window punch seems to work especially well with those tiny pins. By the way, I kind of like the hippos NOT colored in, just as you have them in the photo.
a_place_for_ink -- Nice to see a safety pin on a *grown up* card. Love your color combo--so unusual to see blue with the traditional pumpkin and fall colors. Very pretty. The pin is a nice touch.
beadfreak22 -- love the card. The pin just really picks up the color in the image and DP. Very cute!
Okay, so how do you all decide that you are going to use a safety pin? I guess it's a little more obvious when you want to hang a tag. But when you are using it as an accent, what makes you think to use it? Should I put the container of safety pins on my desk to remind me? Or do you decide to make something using a pin and design a card around it? What is your thought process?
Does anyone else have cards they would like to share with safety pins on them?
Check out this blog...she likes to use safety pins, straight pins, buttons, all fairly basic what she does with them BUT what is around them I am in love with!!!
nancy vandenberg blog - sorry it wont let me post the url...but search it and it comes up right on top.
netheadred-what a great use of the pins. The grouping of 4 pins really calls attention to them, and I can see how they would work for a tab or pull--besides being very cute.
aufait and Fubsy Ruth--I visited Nancy's blog and now understand what you mean about not only her use of pins, but, as aufait put it, *what is around them.* Wow!
I use those tiny saftey pins all the time on my cards. I use them to attach tags to my ribbon rather than attempting to get a jump ring on it. Just faster and adds a unique touch of bling and texture.
I like them for baby cards, here's one I did with Bundle of Joy.
laura, love your color combo site. Now you just need to come up with a small hand held device -- sometimes i am nowhere near my pc to put a combo together!
