Default Should I sell my Sizzix and get a Cuttlebug?

I have the original red one. It seems the Cuttlebug will do everything the Sizzix will plus more (like Sizzix Big dies like Top Note.)

What do you think?

Default big shot

I had the red sizzix too! Shortly after I bought it they came out with the big shot. So I had both but just recently sold my red one (at a great loss). I bought my big shot from costco for about 55 dollars and it was a starter kit. Now they are supposed to come out with an electric model soon. Maybe I need to upgrade again. lol. I have run cb disney folder & dies through and come out great.

I know that my cuttlebug does a much better job at embossing with the folders.
I still use my red machine occasionally & haven't sold it as it wouldn't get me
much money anyhow.

I use my sizzix for my Cuttlebug embossing folders and it works just peachy! I have no need to buy the CB.

That's how I felt too until I saw some of the Big Sixxiz dies -- esp. the Top Note. I should have bought one from M's when they had them 50% off. Perhaps they will go on sale again.

This is exactly how I feel. I do like my Sizzix (Big Betty) when I use my original metal ruled Sizzix dies. For some reason I am always afraid of running these through my Cuttlebug.

I even tried selling Betty at a garage sale with some dies, embossing folders, the converter and 2 new cutting pads. I was asking 25.00 negotiable and it did not sell. Some of my other craft things sold so it is not like there were no paper crafter attending the sale.

Do you know if there is a tutorial on how to use CB dies (or whatever they are called, I am not familiar yet with CB) in a sizzix machine, or is this possible. I also have a Sizzix machine and I still use a lot of my dies, but I also see the CB dies (?) and I like them too. My hubby would throw a mini fit if I brought something else of great expense home. I see his point considering we have been saving for a year to go to Disneyland. lol

I think it's definitely worth ditching the old red lever one for a cuttlebug or big shot, just for the larger dies and texture plates you can do.

If you have the original Sizzix a lot of the new stuff doesn't fit in it. It's not as wide as the CB or the BS. I've been trying to sell my Original Sizzix for over a year, but with all the new machines out there I haven't had anyone interested.

Decisions decision!! I'm thinking if I buy a Cuttlebug I will give all my Sizzix items to my babysitter. She does a lot of great craft projects. And I think the kids would love something new to play with.
Now I'm excited. Something new to buy. Gotta wait until after May but now I have something fun to think about.
Always have to find something to look forward to. Makes life fun.

I love my cuttlebug !! Wouldn't trade it for anything .. I would sell the Sizzix. You can't beat the price, especially if you have a 50% at Michaels !!

hi! i recently purchased a cb from customcrops.com for 39.99. i just checked their website and they sill have them for this price. i have never tried the sizzix but my su demo says i can still use their dies with my cb. i love my cb and i love cranking my paper out with the embossers. the one thing i am buying from sizzix are their longer 2x12" edge cutter plates for the small alphabet set i will be ordering this weekend! other than that i am very happy with my CB!

I had the Sizzix, then got the BigKick, then the CuttleBug and SideKick so I gave the Sizzix to the pre-school, the others are easier to use in my opinion...

I had the original red Sizzix, gave that to my niece who had nothing, and got myself the BigKick. It's all I need. ;)

The Big Shot fits some largest dies (Bigz XL) that the CB does not, so I upgraded. BUt otherwise, the CB is great.

Love them both. I agree with Annie's mom, I am afraid I will break the plate on the cuttlebug with the sizzix dies. I am a teacher and cut out a lot of dies for school and games that I am making. I also think a kindergarten or preschool would appreciate the donation of the sizzix. I would love to keep one at school. That puppy is too heavy to transport! You can use it as a tax write off.

I used my red Sizzix for a LONG time and just within the last 6 months purchased a Big Kick. I still kept my "old red"...I knew I wasn't going to get enough out of her by selling so I just hung on to it. Believe it or not I still use it most of the time for my CB Folders (I use the Big Kick for Nesties)...it is just faster for me.

Hi!
I have the red Sizzix too, and a lot of dies, which I actually still use. I got hooked on CB embossing folders and I use them with the adapter plate in the red Sizzix. (The adapter plate is the thing that lets you use the Sizzlits in the Red Machine). I did eventually buy a Sidekick because it does the Sizzlits better.

I decided to buy an Expression instead of the Big Shot or the Cuttlebug. The reason - adjustable sizes which I couldn't do on the Sizzix dies, more alphabets for less money, and just lots of different shapes.

The Top Note die is really great, and I was pleased to find a real similar cut on the Storybook Cartridge. My only concern now is the Nesties, I'm trying not to get hooked on those, LOL!!!

Hy---per---ven---til----ating!!! Oh my, I must go immediately to cricut website to find this cartridge!!!
I really want the top note die but love my little 'red' and know I wouldn't get a return on it if I sell but don't feel like buying a Big Shot or CB too. (Not enough room on my craft desk.)
Thanks for this info!!!

I have a Cuttlebug and have not had any problems using any sissix product in it- including the Bigz XL dies. My only problem is I wish I never bought the XL die because I don't find it as useful as I thought it would be.

i am trying to sell my old sizzix with the lever at 25.00 and no luck. I have both the Big Shot and the Cuttlebug and love them both. I never saw the Big Shot at Costco but have bought a lot of their paper and pens. I lilke the little sizzix machine, which I have also for portabliity and the little dies. The Cuttlebug I take to school as is is portable and make my math manipulatives with it. I love the embossing folders and use them in both machines.

OK. Questions
1. Whats the difference between a Big Shot and a Big Kick
2. Does Consensus say that I should buy a CuddleBug and either/or the BS or BK?
3. Whats a Cuddlebug folder?

*Big Shot and Big Kick are the same machine.
*Cuttlebug is cheaper, but not as wide, and it's not quite as sturdy.
*A Cuttlebug folder is a plastic folder that has a negative and positive of the same design...you put cardstock in between and run it through the machine. It makes a raised embossed design.

The Big Kick or shot takes wider dies than the Cuttlebug would but I like the Cuttlebug for everything else.

you've already invested in it so why not keep it. you can still get a cuttlebug if you want. i have both and i use my sizzix to to cut chipboard. i also use the cb embossing folders in it.

I can't begin to tell you what you should do, but I have compared the Cuttlebug and the Big Shot here.
I find the bigger machines so much more versatile and able to handle the larger dies coming out now - I'd really think twice about a Cuttlebug. In the end, it all depends on what you'll use it for most often.

So you are all saying that I can use my big machine yet I can also do the Cuttlebugs in it?
Another question for Jane M. Cutting chipboard. You have sizzix dies you use for that? I have also been wanting to have some chipboard little frames.
Sorry I'm so stupid but I just don't have the money to do everything!! lol Plus I don't know alot about cuttlebug.
That being said. Best to keep my oldie plus get a Big Shot? Or just stick with my oldie and use all the different Sizzix and Cuttlebug dies?

Once I purchased my Cuttlebug ... my Sizzix has never left its shelf.
Now, I use both C'bug and Wizard ... but never touch the Sizzix. Poor thing ...

I like my cuttlebug and i use all my dies in it including Sizzix, Quickutz, Embossing Templates, Cuttlebug stuff, Bosskut etc.... I can cut chipboard also with dies that cut chipboard like cuttlebug or sizzix. Quickutz don't cut chipboard.

I have the original Sizzix machine as well. I am not a big fan of diecuts so I doubt if I will ever change to something else, but that can change! So, if I did decide to get something that can handle the Bigz dies, here are the things I would think about:

Durability: the Big Shot (available at SU and independent craft stores) and the Big Kick (available at JoAnns, Michaels, ACMoore, but otherwise the same machine) are heavier and virtually indestructible. Someone posted recently how her Big Shot survived a fall off her truck...at 70 mph on the highway! A Cuttlebug is much lighter, and I have seen many comments here on how things have broken on their CB.

Cost: I don't know the difference here, I think the Big Shot is more than the Cuttlebug, but then coupons can change that.

I gave "Big Red" to my sister after a few months of using my BS. I love my BS and don't have a CB so I can't compare.

One thing I can say about my BS is that I accidently got the tan nessie mat wrapped around the rollers and I had to take the BS apart to get it out. I figured since I couldn't use it, I might as well risk taking it apart. I was able to put it back together will no ill effect. Even though I have an Expression, I'm keeping my BS as it take the abuse I give it.

Wink

I have the original Sizzix, the Sidekick, the Cuttlebug and the Big shot (bought in that order).

The Sizzix - I kept it when I bought the Cuttlebug so I could cut out cork, fabric, metal, etc. (I think I did that twice)
The sidekick - That was a wasted purchased - but I had a 40% off coupon and had to buy something:rolleyes:
The Cuttlebug - Yes - I love it.

Now that I have the Big Shot I will probably sell / give away the others. I am running out of room!

Oh boy I did the wrap around thing while trying to do something. Fortunately I got it off without ruining it or the machine.
