Does anyone have a recommendation for a small sewing machine to use for making cards and scrapbook pages? I just can't get my good one out to run paper through it. I have seen little ones at Michaels, but I wondered if they worked.
Thanks,

mine works, but i cant sew a striaght line to save my life, but i think thats just me, cuz i cant sew a straight line on a big machine either!LOL
I have the one from Michaels. It works, but i hear there is a better one on the market... somewhere. Its small, but it has a foot petal! I think i would rather use a regular sewing machine though. There are more stitches to choose from. The only thing i hate about my Michaels sewing machine is having to push the stupid button, while i'm TRYING to feed the paper in straight!
i can't sew a straight line either but someone told me to score the line on your papaer trimmer first. then just sew and follow that scored line and your straight!! what a neat suggestion!
don't know how well it works, but the michaels flyer for this coming week just arrived and there is a paper sewing machine on sale for only $6.99. I figure i can try it out for that price!!

I bought the small one at Michaels this last year and tried it once. I too couldn't get it to work right because I had to push the button to get it to run. I am going to have to use my regular sewing machine if I want to sew my cards.

hi loretta - yes i'm so glad the michael's arrived, but it is costing me a LOT OF MONEY!!! The coupon I got isn't good till tomorrow though, so i will have to wait till then to check out the sewing machine thing. Maybe sometime we should meet up at starbucks for a coffee or something and we could go to michaels together?

I have the one from Michaels (I think I paid $7 for it on sale). I find it handy to use if I'm just going to sew on 1 or 2 cards so I don't have to haul the "big" one out. I've found that the one from Michaels wants to unravel a bit on the ends or even skip a stitch sometimes. I have a sample in the gallery where I used the Michaels sewing machine under the Trick or Treat stamp set. The card is titled "crafty pumpkin" (page 4 I think... in case you want to see what I'm talking about with the unraveling on the ends and skipping a stitch). Sorry I don't know how to attach the link to this message, so you'll have to find it the long way.
If you're looking for perfection I'd recommend using the "big" nicer sewing machines , but if you want something quick and easy to pull out the Michaels one will do just fine, just don't expect it to always be perfect! It's worth the $7 though.
genise - thanks for the info. i checked out your oh so cute trick or treat card and i think i can handle that little bit of missed stitches for $7. great to get some real feedback on the product before purchase though...

I just made a scrapbook page, and my Michaels sewing machine skipped a lot of stitches! I had to re-do it. If you want to double mat your cardstock, it may skip. I think it can only handle one layer at a time.
