Default Selling - Which would you prefer?

Hi Ladies and Gents,

Have a question for those that sell. My sale thread is not doing so hot here unfortunately (I'm thinking what I'm selling everyone's got already. LOL! ) so I'm in the air about what to try next. I've never sold on either, but was wondering for those who have, where would you go to sell your stuff...craigslist or ebay? Why do you prefer one over the other? Can anyone tell me a 'standard' fee rate for ebay sellers? :!:
I was hoping not to have to go this route but it's looking like I need to.

Thanks for any and all help and info!

hi Lynn! i sell on eBay and i've sold [non craft stuff] on craigslist.

for my craft stuff, i prefer eBay. with craigslist, you have to post a contact and people call or email you.then, typically, you meet to deliver and get paid. i bought a stamp set from craigslist once, and the woman agreed to mail the set [city of david! i paid for shipping], but if a sale goes bad you have no recourse -- no protection, like you do with eBay/PayPal.

with eBay, however, if you're a new seller sometimes people are reluctant to purchase. or, there's tons of people selling the same thing. and, it costs you to sell things, and accept PayPal payments. so, there's that.

not sure i've been much help, but feel free to PM directly if you have any specific questions.

Thanks Renski and Mama.

Cat, thank you so much for the insight! I was wondering what kind (if any) protection one would have on craigslist. I'll have to look into it since I'm home today. Thanks also for the info on ebay!

I have sold a few craft items on craigslist. I preferred it to ebay since there were no fees. All sales were local so I didn't have to deal with shipping/payment.

Be careful on Craigslist right now. My hubby has been doing lots of searching for cars and whatnots lately. He said he is finding lots of deals that are too good to be true. He will email about them but what he gets back are emails just trying to scam him. Also, be aware of scams when selling. We had a rental ad on CL and got more scam emails that possible tenants.

Ahhhh....hadn't thought of the scammers. But I'm not surprised to hear about them being on there. Thanks for the info Amanda.

I've sold tons of things on ebay. Like others have said, if you use paypal you are protected. Also a great thing on ebay is that if there are people looking for a certain set, they can subscribe and be alerted via email if that sets comes up for sale.

Hello! I have not sold but in the future would sell on etsy. And etsy is the place I would buy stuff, I like that everything is handmade. I do not think I would sell or buy on craigslist! Good luck with selling your items

I have used ebay and have been pretty happy with it. The fees do add up though. First I try to sell stuff here and then move to ebay. I have also joined some yard sales at local stores here, they charge $5 and then you get a store credit, I have had good luck with that. The nice thing is you just drop off your stuff and do not have to be there for the sale.
