A friend asked me to make up some cards to sell in her store. I cannot remember the rule about selling with su images on the card. I am not a demonstrator just a major lover of stamping. If any of you know the rule please let me know!
Sorry, but you're going to have to tell your friend that the rule is NO items made with SU! images can be sold in stores -- even on consignment, even if it's only a sample board, and even by non-demos. You can, however, put up a flyer advertising that you make cards, but you can't use the SU! name or their images on the flyer. I called them several months ago and got one approved, then got permission from my bosses at the candle store to put one up. Think I may do that again as wedding season is upon us and a couple of orders would definitely help ease the cash crunch!
And the debate begins again as people who don't like the restrictions in the Angel Policy and want SU! to change it come out of the woodwork...

You can check out SU.com for the whole angel policy (their rules). And what you have questions on or don't understand just e-mail them for clarification. They ususally reply super quick and in great detail.

You can't sell them in a fixed location (like a store) or on the internet. You can sell them - with the proper copyright stamps on the back - at craft fairs and other temporary locations.

Interesting... thanks for your reply. ;)

Everyone is correct, but I would like to add a little extra. Where it says you cannot sell at a store they are refurring to any perminant location even a fitness center. I also asked.

Question: If you buy something, SU stamps included, you *own* them, they're not being *rented*. I don't understand how SU can impose this policy. I'm not trying to start a debate here but find this very interesting. I'm just new to buying SU and had no idea such a policy existed. How do they make sure nobody sells cards with thier stamps on them? Is there stamp police? ;)
No worries, I have no intent on selling any cards... I just give mine away.
Thanks for your reply.

***OH YES! There are some people that can get quite nasty about this! Some of them report everything! BUT....most demo's and SU people aren't Nazi...just a few "SELECT".
I'm not sure all the particulars about the legal stuff either. Interesting though. I'd like to sell some myself, but I've got a few Ink Pad Police around here that could/would make things a little nasty, so I don't.

Ok.. wondering... even if you were to sell them with a SU image on them, and someone reported you, what's SU going to do? Take away your stamps? Take you to court? Spends thousands of dollars in a legal battle over selling homemade cards? LOL!!! Sorry.. I find this amusing.
What has been done in the past about this? I can't imagine that everyone follows these rules, i've never even heard of such a "law" before, so surely i'm not the only one that didn't know about this?

Welcome to the wonderful world of copyright law, babe. You've probably noticed that little line at the bottom of every image sticker that says "Copyright Stampin' Up! (insert year here)." What you actually own a block of wood and a piece of rubber, but they own all rights to the design of that image and can therefore define how it is used. What can I say. Distinctions like that confuse the heck out of me, which is why I'm an interior designer and not a lawyer.
I am perfectly content to play by these rules, but there have been a handful of posters on this site who were unashamed to apply the saying that rules were meant to be broken to their handmade card sales. If you ever decide to sell your creations, I hope you will not be like those ladies!
