How do you keep track of all your scraps of cut cardstock/dp? I need to find a good way to organize all of the little bits (and even the bigger bits) of paper i cut from a full sheet. I normally just shove my leftovers into a medium sized plastic bin then I hunt through that for whatever I need (cuz I know there's something in ther I can use!). I decided to try to get it organized last night and it took me over an hour just to sort it out into 3 piles - plain paper, designer paper and specialty papers. It's a total mess and I can't stand it any longer. So, how do you keep track of your "leftovers"?
I have the plastic totes that hold hanging files from Staples. They cost around $10. I stick a little piece of card/paper onto the folder label along with the name of the contents so that I can easily pick out what I want.
It works well for me and I can separate each type/color of paper without having to use up a load of space to do it.
I bought an accordian file from Creative Memories and I have filed all my scraps according to color family. So when I need a small piece of red, for example, I pull out the red file folder & look through it. This system works great for me - I've been using it for years. Another bonus, it's very portable. Easy to pack when I go to crops or stamping events.
I have my paper in hanging file folders. The scraps are in a gallon ziplock in the same folder with their corresponding color full size sheets. This way I check the scraps first when grabbing some paper.
I store my paper in the 12x12 plastic drawers (isis carts) by color
I put my scraps in ziplock bags and put them in the same drawer.
I find that I use them more often because I use the scraps before
I cut a full sheet.

I have a tower of 10 drawers from Sterlite and I reserved one drawer
for my paper scraps. It is so full now that I can hardly close the drawer
and need another one. It would be nice to have several and sort by the
kind of paper.

Just looked at the altered file box from Identicaltriplets..really, really cute.
I'm sure that works well.

I have some of the Sterlite 3 drawer units that I got at WalMart. I have the DP sorted by main color (the color that pops out and me when I look at it). I have my CS sorted by color in a hanging file. It works well for me.

I have my scraps in page protectors sorted by color- blues, reds, etc and I keep them in three ring binders. So far I have three binders going and as I need more space I just add a binder. It is working so far but I want to adapt this system to include VCR tape boxes to hold smaller scraps and keep the quarter sheets and half sheet in the binders. For me scrap storage is a work in progress but worth the effort as I use a lot of my scraps.
I used to keep my stamps in the 6-drawer mini Iris carts and when my collection outgrew the mini-carts I started storing my scraps in the mini-chests. I had tried other solutions but they were not big enough to hold large scraps and I did not want to cut them down to fit.
The drawers are "organized" by color, reds, blue, green, metallic, etc. They are right behind me when I stamp so I have a tendancy to use them because they are close. I used to save small scraps and now I only save pieces that are at least 3".
I get a monthly kit in the mail from www.scrap-room.com. I save the boxes to cover with beautiful paper and embellishments. I cut and make binders from them. I label each with a specific color. I have binder for each color. Every scrap worth using is in hands reach when I need certain color, I always look here first.
I have my paper in hanging file folders. The scraps are in a gallon ziplock in the same folder with their corresponding color full size sheets. This way I check the scraps first when grabbing some paper.
This is the simplest way to do it - that way all your colors are together, no matter what size, and you won't keep cutting into those full sheets!
I keep my full sheets in file folders inside hanging files in a filing cabinet sorted alphabetically. I keep my scraps in side-loading sheet protectors filed along with the corresponding file folder. I write the color on the edge of the protector with a Sharpie. Whenever I need a color, I pull out a full sheet plus the sheet protector full of scraps, and I have what I need to make a card! Then when I'm done, I put all the scraps in the sheet protector and back in the file drawer. So easy!
I keep all of my scraps in a big box full of hanging file folders. That way, each color has it's own folder. All greens go together, all purple goes together...etc. Now if I could REMEMBER to check there before getting a new piece of CS out, I might not have to buy paper for at least a year or two. LOL!
