OK - I have misplaced my scissors.... ugh! I have a big stack of unmounted stamps and I am afraid to try to cut them with regular scissors. I am signing up to be a demo this month, so will get another pair, so should I wait? I have regular scissors or I have the tiny cutter bee precission scissors. Does anyone use other scissors to cut their stamps?
You're more likely to do damage to yourself than the rubber if you use regular scissors to trim all those new stamps! Before I got my good ones, my hands used to hurt like crazy after mounting only one or two sets. Not sure about the little Cutter Bee scissors. They're plenty sharp, but aren't they designed for cutting paper? You wouldn't want to dull them too much. If you can't wait the couple of weeks till your new demo kit shows up, is there someone whose C&R scissors you can borrow for a bit?

Thanks Rachel -- I guess I will try to excercise some will power and sit back and wait for my new scissors......its not like I don't have plenty of stamps already mounted....
Before I got my scissors, I just used the kitchen shears. They worked out just fine. Regular scissors took too much effort. The Pamered Chef ones are great, but the regular ones work too. I can't stand to let stamps set unmounted, drives me nuts.
I'm too cheap to buy the SU scissors yet...there are too many stamps, colors & ribbons oh my!! I use the cutter bees and although your hand gets a little sore, they worked just fine for me!

I have the Pampered Chef kitchen shears - I think I might try to cut a set or two out with those to see how they do

I just use stay-sharp scissors that come with their own sharpener. they work fine. I clean the glue off with rubbing alcohol so they don't get too sticky.
I am a fan of the C&R scissors! When I look at the sets I mounted before I got my C&R scissors...there is a WORLD of difference in how they were cut. I wasn't able to get nearly as close to the image as I can with the C&R scissors. It was also much harder and made my hands tired and sore from using other scissors to cut through the rubber and foam. I'm finding that I'm going back and re-cutting and re-mounting the ones that I did not use the C&R scissors with. Just my 2cents, but I'd wait for you scissors to come. As my upline says...It's like cutting through butter!! =)
But I'm sometmes a very stubborn girl.:( I told myself I will use what I had. After cutting many sets, which were "OK" I finally became a demo so used the one that came in the kit and I have to say, i will never go backwards. I was kicking myself for holding out so long as I find they have made a world of difference for me. I wish I had spent the money early on and just bought them, as I feel they are sooo worth it. But to each their own. I give the few friends who I stamp with and new stampers my testimony and recommend that they get it so that they do not get discouraged 1) trying to learn how to cut, as well as 2) manage a so-so cutting experience with what they may be using instead. Gosh there's so much else to learn in stamping. Why suffer before you even get started like I did?
However, if you just want to get through until you get your new C&R scissors (or if you are not a demo and have only a few sets to cut), you might check out your local dollar store. Allary makes a similarly shaped pair of scissors (large handle, small blades) that will do the job. When you see scissors on eBay for $2-5 proclaiming to be "just like SU!", it's usually the Allary brand and you can save yourself some money by buying them locally (unlike my customer who thought she got such a deal).
SU's C&R scissors do make closer, clean cuts for sure. I offer to help my new customers trim their first set of stamps. I always ask them to bring their favorite (non-sewing) scissors and I bring the Allary brand, my "office" scissors, my small snips and my SU! C&R scissors. Almost everyone agrees that SU! is the best, and I benefit from another sale simply by honestly showing them the product differences.
I have a pair of good Bonsai scissors that were purchased at the local garden center. They have larger handles and MUCH sharper edges. They also hold their edge better. My demonstrator had me use her SU! scissors at my last party and I found them to not even compare to the quality of the scissors I have. Mine are more comfortable to use and cut "like a hot knife through cold butter". And to make it all better, they were 2/3 the cost of the ones in the catty.
Check out your local garden center (not the garden shop at the local discount store) and see what they have. Mine were $13 but that was a few years ago.

I splurged on the scissors at my first workshop b4 I became a Demo. I will tell you...that was the BEST $20 I ever spent. I got my second pair when I became a demo and let me tell you...I use them both..my hubby helps cut out stamps and so we can share the chore together. I have used other scissors and I will NOT ever go back to anything but SU's scissors. I know it may seem like a long time to wait, but it is worth it....otherwise is there any other demo's who may let you borrow drop by to cut out your stamps.
Good luck,
Katherine

use Tweezerman mustache scissors, plus free sharpening when they get dull. they come out super sharp and have a great pointed tip to get into those tight areas.
I have cutter bees with tephlon and they work OK, they don't feel the same I think is the problem and I am a touch person soooo. If I have alot of stamps to cut and my DD helps I try to get her to use the bees which she does and she likes them the same.
Okay,,,don't laught. But I use my husbands Craftmen's yellow handled curved wire cutters...they are perfect. I make sure I place the flat side where I want to cut and clip away...wonderful....beats any sissors I've tried.
I started with the cutter-b scissors and the when I got the craft and rubber ones with my kit I wouldn't go back. I still use the other ones for trimming the labels that go on the blocks.
