I just got engaged this past weekend to my sailor bf. I'm super excited about starting to plan a wedding, and since all my friends/family know i'm a crafter they all expect me to make everything and of course i want to 'wow' them.
So, I need a really AMAZING, unique, idea for a save the date. Something to get everything off on the right foot, you know?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!
Rebecca

I made my own Save the Date cards too. My reccommendation is to keep them somewhat simple... you'll be making a lot of them, right? I made about 150, and was so sick of them by the time I was through, I didn't make my invitations. I'd also make postcards instead of full cards, because that can potentially help you save money... less cardstock, cheaper stamps, etc. Hope that helps!!! Happy wedding planning!
Hey, I just noticed that you're in VA Beach -- so am I! Let me know if you want to get together for a stamp night to crank out those postcards!

A friend just sent out a postcard in a similar situation.
The postcard was a recent picture of she/future husband and a
"Save the Date: May 30th wedding blah blah blah" at the bottom (I think she had a Kodak machine do the work).
This way you can save your energy to make invites! Ha!
i'm guessing with a postcard it would have to be purely stamped, no ribbon or brads?
maybe it could be a postcard in an envelope? idk if i could have a card without ribbon and/or brads. lol

If you are going to mail postcards, I would recommend no embellishments that might fall off or become stuck in the machine. You could always slip them in an envelope, but then you're going to spend more $$ on postage... so it just depends on what your budget is.
I highly recommend picking something very simple. My husband and I made all of our wedding invites (yes, he helped!) as well as all of the programs, nametags for seats, etc. etc. all to match. It was great, but oh my gosh. If we had made the save the date's as well that might have pushed me over the edge! But if you can come up with a simple design that looks pretty and can be easily duplicated and you have time, then go for it!
We got a lot of compliments on how pretty and coordinated everything was at the ceremony, all thanks to stamping ;) I even made simple thank you cards that had a very similar look and the same color scheme to send out afterwards. Great fun and we were happy with it all, but there are so many other details to figure out for a wedding, you don't want to get overloaded from juggling it all.
I just received 2 very different save the date cards in the mail this week so I'll put me 2 cents in!
The first one was a post card type, not in a envie, just a post card. It had a picture of the couple, the date and was done in the wedding colors (2 purples, black and off white). It was very elegant, easy to read and I have it hanging on my fridge with a small magnet...which leads me to my next one!
The second was sent in an envelope and it WAS a small magnet! Very cute and very clever! There is a picture of the couple, their wedding date (underneath it says "invitation to follow") and lists the city it's being held in (Minneapolis, Minnesota). The magnet has a very simple background that is also elegant done is reds, blacks and whites (red roses theme).
Two very different approaches to the save the date cards but I enjoyed both of them! However the magnet idea was extremely clever, I thought! I hope that helps!
Again, congrats and good luck!

To the world you may just be one person, but to one person you may be the world.
The postcard we received was just a postcard photo with a "Save the Date" on it (again, the Save the Date part looks like it was imbedded in the photo at a photo shop/Kodak station, etc.)

LOVE the magnets - who doesn't have a fridge to whack that baby on?! Though we swapped fridges last year and never found that save the date magnet again in all the remodelling! We at least remembered that we needed to remember that date! Ours came in our Christmas card for the following November.
Mike's had the Save the Date magnets last time I was there.
Love pictures of the couple on it somehow too as sometimes if you live a distance away from family you may not meet the bride or groom until the wedding day.
I stumbled across this the other day and thought it was gorgeous!! It's a whole set but there is a save the date card halfway through the post. Congrats and enjoy the planning!
The save the date notice should be simple but reflect the type of wedding it will be. Very formal it should be on heavy weight paper in an envelope. If a causal wedding then a post card will do. If it's a big wedding I would add a photo so the people your parents invite know how you are.

WOW, that's fabulous! This is a perfect thread for me, too -- I also just got engaged and want to make all of my own stuff. Thanks for starting this thread and for all these great ideas!

Congrats--such a fun and exciting time for you--I wish you the best of Luck!
2 years ago my friend was getting married and she made "save the date" magnets--hers were computer generated--and she used sheets of magnets from Michaels--they were unique. I had it on my fridge for the longest time, but I know her brother's still keep them on the fridge that way they don't forget the anniversary now.
