I think they merely go by what is selling and the versatility of the stamps. Can't wait to see what new items they have coming.
Sincere Salutations is a good starter set. I am sure there are still umpteen number of crafters starting card making everyday and buying it. SU! should have replaced it with something that has a font like well scripted with everyday sentiments.
They still need to fill the catalog, so some of them like God's blessings stay
Ditto on the double mounts!!!
Looks like all the backgrounds they introduced last year are going. Surprising!!!
i was suprised by the ribbon...i mean all of the 5/8 grosgrain....

I also was surprised at all the backgrounds going but didn't they do that a few years ago also? I love Sincere Salutation and do use it alot. It was one of the first set I got when I started stamping 6 years ago. I thought that was funny you said they should replace it with something like the font from Well Scripted because I don't like that font at all. I love how we all have different tastes and thats ok.
I haven't went through my catalog and crossed off stuff yet so I'm not sure what all is going I just glanced at the website. I wish I could find it in page order that is so much easier to go through your catalog with.
what surprised me is that more was not clearanced priced. Who wants to pay full price when you know that it is being discontinued!
They very rarely (and it might be never, but I'm not 100% certain) discount the retiring stamp sets. Probably because they produce them in house so they have very good control on inventory and are less likley to have excess stock at the end of the catalog sales period.
I'm surprised that some of the punches are retiring. Also, the ribbon. Like no Early Espresso, Marina Mist or Old Olive? Those are staples in my collection! I wonder what colors they will offer ribbon in for the new catty? Seems weird to not have a blue, brown or green.

All the ribbon, hope there are good replacements!
Not surprised by much more except those sets that should have gone! Like Loads of Love & Curvy Verses!

I'm surprised about some of the accessories retiring like the cutting mat, watercolor paper and so much ribbon. But we can get some of that in a craft store for a lot less. They must have listened to us griping about the lousy 12 x 12 paper choices!
The 5/8 grosgrain ribbon is no great loss to me, I only have 2 spools of it and I find it too bulky on cards. We'll likely get more seam binding and baker's twine.
But is the 12 by 12 just going back to packages of normal and packs of textured, instead of the combined packs. I know that a lot of people were upset about SU combining them last year.

They are way re-doing the ribbon colors, I had heard rumors of that earlier...even Shelli didn't like the selection we had I heard....
I think watercolor paper will come back maybe in larger sheets, awesome! I go through that like fire! Looking forward to the 12 x 12 packs if they do smooth and textured...I do wish for 8.5 x 11 textured too...not sure I will see it! Excited to see what is ahead!
Also, what do they mean by discounted ? I looked at the prices in the discounted section and they didn't seem to be any less than before. Is there a percentage that has been applied to these?

I am surprised Lovely as a Tree is still hanging in. Great set and I finally got it, but it has been around for a long time. I haven't purchased much this year and there is nothing on the retiring list I MUST have, guess I got lucky. Here's a question to demos or anyone else that may know. If a set is retiring and it is in the my digital studio package, will they sell the digital image as a single set?
I wonder if people are using more and more embossing folders and not as many background stamps. That may be why the backgrounds are leaving us. Was sorry to see Christmas Cardinal go because I had really wanted that bird. BUT I found one very similar from another company so I'm satisfied. Fortunately, none of the ones going are my "must-haves". Have a great weekend, stampers.

Hi Wanda.
I agree with you about the BG stamps. I can't remember the last time I used a BG stamp. I have been turning more to paper and embossing folders for backgrounds. I won't miss what's retiring either. Looking forward to seeing what new things are in the catalog.
I am personally most surprised about Pun Fun. Those animals are soooo cute. I think they're still cuter than the ones they're being replaced with. I am keeping my Pun Fun for sure, and will continue to use it!

Agreed. I love Pun Fun and Puns From the Past. They make fast and easy cards!
Its all about the numbers I think! And they do seem to go through in waves with the backgrounds. Since they are carrying so many textured papers, etc they just may not be selling. I have a whole drawer full that I hardly ever use!

I was surprised at the sanded background since vintage is so in. I'm going to be a demo rebel and use it a lot anyway:-)
I was also surprised to see so many sets that made their debut in the 2010-2011 catty to be retiring. USUALLY they stick around for at least two:( I'm so excited for new rubbah though! I refuse to even tally up my wish list from the new catalog. I KNOW it's the biggest ever...I better win big in Vegas on vacation.....
So do tell..are they replacing the BG stamps with some more varieties?
I love my BG stamps! I do use a lot of papers and embossing plates, but BG stamps are still awesome!
For example...I'll be buying that new Pennant Punch, but not the stamp set. No need to buy that if I have so many backgrounds...I can make pennants in my own patterns!
I too am shocked about sanded I love that stamp :( Maybe they are going to replace it with something simular?! Now that would be cool... I just can't wait to see!!

Not really although there are some awesome new background stamps. Like I said, I'm going to be a demo rebel and keep using it for my own use:-)
BUT you can do a similar look with the stamp pad to paper technique where you just randomly tap your pad on your paper. Maybe I'll try to do a video about it on my blog if there is any interest. It's not quite the same but very similar!
I like the sanded BG too, but won't pay the price of those big stamps. I have done the technique Minders referred to, it is very similar and easy. I'd love it if they would make a wheel similar to the sanded BG. I use those background type wheels like Texture and Rough more often than the big BG stamps and they are more price friendly.
