My handle actually fell off one time, but I was able to screw it right back on and it's worked fine ever since. Just take out the one little screw that holds the handle on, ship it, and then just screw it on when needed!

Not sure why you would need to remove the handle to mail the cuttlebug - why not just tape the handle down -that way it is still attached with no need to worry if it will go back on.........................
I had to attach the handle to mine when I bought it, so its definitely not permanently fixed in place, you should be fine.
PS, put the screw in a little zip-loc bag & tape it to the machine- don't know if its a 'standard' screw or not, and might be difficult to get one to fit properly.( I work in bolt manufacturing, and know that threads have a vast range of sizes, one size most definitely doesn't fit all!)
As the other stampers have said, the handle comes off readily. There is a little white "thingie" that hides the screw so that comes off first, then there is a little allen wrench (think that's the name) that inserts into the hole where the screw is buried. When you have the screw out and the handle off, put all three of those items (white thingie, wrench and screw) in a baggie so they don't get lost.
