Ok, I'm going to put this one out there. Where I work there is a collection in the fall for the "flower fund", which sends cards and flowers to those who are ill, having babies, have deaths in the family, etc. In lieu of the $20, I give cards whenever needed. On occasion, there is a need for them to purchase a card, but not very often. All in all it has been a good experience. (Made a couple beautiful hummingbird cards that never were delivered to the people for whom they were designed. Don't know what happened there, but...)
Here's the story...I had my baby girl seven months ago and received a card and a little shirt for the baby when I returned to work. To my surprise, I received one of my own cards back. I'm not upset. I just thought it was funny. Anyone ever had someone give them their own card back as a "gift"? lol!!!
Yes I get them for my birthday every year. I give my step-mom cards for every occasions and she loves them. She never buys cards from the store any more. When I first started stamping my dad said the cards were so beautiful that he didn't want to send them to anyone who would appreciate them.
Yup, I make cards for family members and occasionally I get one back. The last one from my DD thanking me for the baby gift! Love it and I'm glad they use my cards.
I can definitely see that happening and would be amused by it.
On a similar but different but funny note, a friend of mine got the exact same birthday card (from a store, not handmade) two years in a row from her husband. The card suited my friend to a T and her husband did not remember buying the exact same card the year before. They still laugh about it and she told him "three strikes you're out", so he'll have to be very careful when he buys her a card this year LOL!

I make cards for my office's Sunshine Club (similar to your flower fund but we don't send cards & gifts for happy events). Luckily, I haven't needed a card from the Sunshine Club since I started, but I can absolutely see them sending me one of my own cards.
I made a set of Christmas cards for my sister a few years ago and she didn't send me one.

No blog for me. My gallery chronicles my card-making successes and mishaps.
I recently had one of those zero birthdays. My husband, unknown to me, kept taking birthday cards from my stack. When he would see family or friends, he gave them one of my cards to send to me. I got about twenty of my own cards. The only card I got that was not one I made was from him. When I wasn't around he got into my supplies and made a card for me.
I made a set of really cute "snail mail" notecards for a grown granddaughter who lives in another state. She sent me one back with her thank you written on it! Hey, that's what our cards are for - to send to people.
It must run in the family, too. Listen to this sweet story. The DIL who is the mother of this granddaughter saved almost every card I had sent her for a year or two. She got one of those big poster frame sets and carefully arranged all the cards artistically in collage fashion. She presented it to me at Christmas as my gift, and it is now proudly hanging in my craft room.

Yes - my sister sometimes sends me cards I've given her, although more often she makes her own photo ones . It does feel a bit funny, but she says if she has one that's just right, then that's the one to use, and I don't really mind. She only gets my best ones anyway, from my *keepers* box, so I don't mind getting them back again.

Wow! That is very romantic and thoughtful of your spouse! My 20-year old son wanted a handmade card for his girlfriend for Valentine's Day but he didn't want me to make it. After it would look bad if mommy made his card LOL! I gave him instructions through the whole process and he picked out the stamps and the layout. I was quite impressed with his creativity :-)

I always think it's funny when I make invitations for our friends kids parties and they send us one! I tell them not to waste the stamp on us and that I already have all the info...they never listen!
I have made notecard sets for DH's stepfather and he uses them to thank us for Christmas & b-day gifts.
I kind of do a double take when I see my own decorated envelopes in my mailbox.
My step mother also buys my cards...and occassionally she sends me one I have made.
I know she likes to use my cards so I often send her a card for an occassion (for her) and I write on a note or on a sticky so she can re-use the card....It only annoys me when she sends me back those cards, lol.
All the time. I provide all the cards to the church for birthdays and anniversaries...so each of my sweet kids gets one from the church I made and so do my spouse and I for birthday and anniversary...lol. I just remount the front and use it for the troos project I am working on...I do a lot of remounting and add them to the boxes I send the troops. My mom recently gave my sis who does cards too a huge pile of the cards she had gotten from us three sisters that make cards so she could remount them and add them to the troops box. Great way to reuse these cards.
blessings.
This has never happened to me yet. I give my MIL a box of cards once a year and have never received one back. She says she uses them. (she is 91) On a related note, My mom and her twin brother have given each other the same store-bought card more than once and they were not even "twin" cards.

Yes and I have to tell you in a pinch I have taken other cards given and tore them apart. Make them mine and mail. It is amazing when life is hectic what you will do. LOL
I make about 50 sets of 6 christmas cards to sell at our church bazaar each year, and all of the parishoners know that I am the one that makes them. So it is very amusing to see at least 4 or 5 of them arrive in my mailbox at Christmas time from said parishoners - at least I know they are being used!

I don't generally make cards for others but I did make a stationary set for my neice one year and got one of the monogrammed cards back! LOL!
I look at it this way - if I worked for a card company as a designer would I be upset or delighted - and the truth is I would be delighted that someone firstly thought to send me a card and secondly sent me one I designed. I personally feel the same applies to handmade items.
I have another same but different story - we had a "surprise" birthday party for my uncle and the only way to ensure he would turn up was to make him in charge of bringing a bucket of chicken. So he actually brought food to his own surprise party!
Last year I made baby annoucements for a young friend as part of her shower gift basket. Then, because she married so very close to Christmas, I made her and her new husband a set Christmas cards for them as part of their wedding gift basket. I received one of each. I thought it was fuuny!
On a similar but different but funny note, a friend of mine got the exact same birthday card (from a store, not handmade) two years in a row from her husband.
My husband had the same card from his family a couple years in a row too. Then my mother has sent him the same paperback book twice - a few years apart. If she wouldn't write all over the inside covers of books she gifts, we could drop them off at the local library as a donation.
You know, I make my mother, my sister and my aunt tons of cards. I've never received one back and it kind of makes me sad. I'd love to get one of my own back. I probably appreciate them way more than anyone they might give them to!

No I haven't gotten my own card back YET - but I hope to someday!
Also this happened with my DH - I was planning a joint surprise party for him and my BIL (who are best friends btw). DH *thought* it was for my BIL and I had him go and pick up AND PAY for 100 pieces of chicken! LOL He still talks about how he "had to bring the food" to his own party! :p

My husband did this to me too! It is a very funny card, but i really don't want him spending $4 on it again next year!

That is so awesome! Proves he was thinking about your birthday well in advance. Plus, it's just downright funny!
I love that he made you a card too. He must be quite a guy.
