Mostly at this time of the year is when I use Real Red, but for some reason it's takes forever to dry and smears like crazy, even if I leave it overnight, and I swear it's darker then normal. I've had this pad a while, and like I said I don't use it much, mostly for the reasons listed above, but is this normal?
Should I try to wipe a lot of it off and they start again, it seems to me, if I remember rightly, I had trouble with the black pad, and someone suggest that trick.
Unfortunately, what you list has become normal for SU's Real Red for quite some time. Part of the time SU will say that it's a known issue while other times they'll tell you it's the first time they've heard of the problem. But, if you do a search here, there are numerous threads for several years now where people have been complaining about the same thing as well as the pad getting a thick, gunky golden sheen to it and the pad gets hard and has to be thrown away. I had to ditch mine because there was no saving it at all - the thick golden gunk hardened. I stopped using SU's Real Red a long time ago. I didn't want a repeat of the issue simply by replacing it. Some people have said some of their browns and other reds have done the same thing.
My Riding Hood Red has that gold sheen on the top and the pad seems harder. I rinsed it out last year and reinked it and it later developed the same problem. For now it stamps and dries normally. So far my Real Red is a year old and looks fine.
I have trouble getting real red to dry and much as I love the colour, am having similar issues with my new cherry cobbler. I've learned to just hit it with the heat gun with a few seconds after stamping and that seems to set it and prevent the smearing.

I use Real Red for Chirstmas and Valentine's day. I haven't had a problem and I've had my pad for three or four years. But I believe you that you've had a problem with this. Weird how this is...maybe it's humidity or something.

My Real Red ink pad is one of the first that I ever bought --so is 5-6-7 years old --
I used it on all my Christmas cards this year and it is still just fine! No problem
at all!!
I bought a new Real Red pad at my monthly stamp club in November for the exact same reason--gold gunk on the top and took forever to dry, even with the heat gun. Now, I hope other reds I have do not develop the same issue. Interesting that this happens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks
Contact your demonstrator, I have 2 different real red pads and neither of them do that. SU will replace it, but you have to go through the demonstrator who sold it to you. I think they did have a strange batch a while back. I have heard of people rinsing and using a re inker to solve the problem. I have never had an issue with getting a problem resolved with SU, usually no questions asked. If you can't reach the original demonstrator you can try calling SU directly for a resolution.

I had the same issue with the Riding Hood Red, just ordered new one. We'll see how that one goes.

This is changing the color, but I ordered SU's ivory craft pad, then didn't do much stamping for awhile, and opened it nearly three months after I got it. It was a mottled color and gunky/watery. I talked with my demo but she said it couldn' t be replaced after three months, although I did talk with her about it shortly before the three months were up. Stampin' Up ended up sending me a reinker for which I had to pay the shipping, which cost more than the reinker. I couldn't see how I'd get the gunk out to reink the pad, so to this day I've never used it. I've bought a lot at SU, and I honestly did believe they would make it right, since it was so obviously faulty when it arrived. Oh, well!

It's a problem with the real red ink and not the pad. I don't use SU ink pads cause I don't like the flip style type and the sinking that happens to them over a short time.
I bought a bunch of regular uninked pads like the kind SU used to sell and inked it up with Red Red reinker. After two years the top of the pad was gold and gunky.
I've had my Real Red pad for about five years. The first time I used it, the flip case "stuck" and I had to struggle getting it shut. By the time I was finished I was covered - it looked like I'd butchered a pig.
I still get nervous when I open that pad...but it's still rich and juicy and I love the color!

I have the same issue! When I stamped with it there is actually a gold sheen to the paper and it smeared. I left it overnight to dry and it still smeared the next day. Unfortunately, the lady I bought it from is no longer a demo.
