For me, 1 bag of plain M&Ms made 15 sticks with 26 or 27 in each stick. I was alternating green and red for Christmas treats and after the 15th stick, there weren't enough of each color to do another full stick. So...I had to dispose of the extra M&Ms in my own way (GRIN!).
4 bags of M&Ms took me just over 2 hours for 60 sticks and I used a tiny staple to hold the bags closed because a couple of them tried to pop open. Tonight I stamp and color the toppers, and tomorrow I will assemble the tops.
It's a longer project than I expected, but I think it's worth it!
My bags all stayed taped together, but my M&Ms starting turning whitish on the edges. Maybe I left them in the car and the heat or something? I was very surprised. I thought M&Ms melted in your mouth, not your hands. (ha ha, remember that commercial from wayyyyyy back when?)
Really old M&Ms that have dried out turn whitish on the edges. You may want to check the expiration date on the bag.
I just watched a news story where they looked at expiration dates on foods in several gas station food marts and found dozens of items that were up to 2 years old still on the shelves. GROSS!!!
That reminds me of the time I gutted my mother's pantry and found food that had been expired for years. She was mad that I threw it all out. It turns out I missed some frozen chicken hidden deep in the freezer that she ate a few weeks later and gave herself food poisoning. When did we change places with our parents?
Here's the first 3 I made! Thanks for the enabling gals.....I love it!!! ;)
Lee, those are darling!!!! The blossom nestie makes a wonderful topper for those cute snowmen. The single color m&m's look great, too, and certainly solves the problem of getting the different colors in nice order! ;) Thanks for sharing the photos.
I made several of these over the last month in the fall colors, and when I went to take them to the show I did last week, most of them had come open. So, I would recommend stapling them, or using a glue dot like someone else mentioned. I'm a little disappointed the adhesive on the bags isn't doing what it should do, but guess we live and learn! :-) They came open on my beaded pens too, so it isn't just the M&M's
For those of you who like to cheat a little (like me), I have an idea to share...
I tend to look for paper that has small, neat images that are separated, like tags. What I do is take the paper and cut it up so I have a bunch of little "tags". Well, I was at the LSS this morning and I found this paper. It has 88 separate images on it. I plan on cutting it up to use the "tags" on m&m sticks, my altered matchboxes, anything really. I will attach some photos of some matchboxes that I have done with similar images from last year.

Thanks so much for sharing that with us! Don't you just love that Graphic 45 paper? I'll have to look for it - looks perfect!
I am really down to the wire on getting everything ready for my first craft show this coming weekend. I made 30+ MM Sticks out of 4 bags of red and green M&M's that I got at Michaels with coupons. I think decorating them was the most time consuming part, especially since I paper pieced a lot of them.
I found this really cute bucket at Hobby Lobby. I haven't decided how I am going to display the apple ones. Any suggestions?
Pat

There are candies called Pieces (Reeses, Almond Joy, Hershey's Special Dark) that also fit into the 1x8 tubes. I love the Almond Joy pieces. They are blue and white. I thought about using them for snow themed tubes. They would also be cute for Hannukah.
The Reeses pieces are yellow, orange and brown. I am using them for Thanksgiving tubes to give to my nieces and nephews after dinner.

Hi Patscrap.....You did a fantastic job with your tags on the top - I just love them. It does show that you spent time on them and I wish you good luck in your craft show. By the way, that bucket is adorable!
I discovered the mint M&M's are larger than traditional M&M's, so they do not fit in the bags. (But they tasted great when we were forced to eat them!)
Here are the pictures of the sets that I made for my friend to sell at craft fairs this weekend. The best news I could get on Monday is that I need to make more.......................... And, it sure can be a struggle to get that first little bugger to lie flat--use that paper funnel! I also did not staple the flap on the top--I used the large adhesive dots that Texas Jody sells--that work awesome. I just made sure that half of the large dot was over the folded edge.

Here's some that I've done for Thanksgiving. This will be the project at my club meeting next week, my girls will be making 15 each. I figured they could be passed out to friends/co-workers/classmates or used as a favor at your Thanksgiving table.

Very nice! The fall colored m&m's are perfect with your topper.
Interesting thing about these bags. Posters claim they are for the pretzels and can be found at Michaels. However in Canada these pretzel bags are a smidge over 2" wide just the right size for York Peppermint Patty treats which I make a lot . There is no way you could use these for M&M's, which I would love to make. They do not appear to carry the 1x8 inch bags at Michaels here. Guess I will have to look for them in Michaels when we go to Phoenix this Winter.
You have all done such a great job on yours. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

There may have been some confusion in a post or two on this thread, but the bags that everyone is using for the m&m sticks is 1x8 and is not sold in any of the major craft/hobby stores (that I know of). I ordered mine from GT Bag and have been very happy with them. I think that there are some Canadians on here that have ordered from a company that was either in Canada or had a good shipping rate to Canada, I'll see if I can find it...

I too, thought the 1 by 8 bags filled with M & Ms was really cute so decided to make some for our church's welcome gift mug. I had been making nugget boxes which were pretty labor intensive. Thought this would be easy. Ha! Filling them is a real pain. Did not have much luck with the paper tube filler. So went to Home Depot with a bag and an M&M and tried out 1/2 inch thin walled copper pipe. bingo just fit the bag--a bit tricky getting the bag open to accept the pipe but then they just slide down easy. I withdraw the tube as I am filling. Hope this will help anyone who is struggling with this issue. Sobusy
Thank you so much fellow Canuk (lol) I am in Manitoba. I will look them up today. Proabably too late for this years Christmas, but there are more holidays to come. Thanks again.
I sold over 50 yesterday and over 30 the week before. Of course I was running late getting everything ready so didn't take pictures. Will be making more for this upcoming weekend. Will try to do them early enough to get pictures and post them. Much gratitude to whomever came up with this idea!
