Idumont999 - Thanks for your info re: Christmas M&M's. You really do have it all figured out including Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day - super idea! Also, any left over can always be consumed! Yum!!
Thanks Boss - I'll check my Wal-Mart again. I was just there yesterday and they did have large boxes of candy but they weren't open and clerks were moving things around. Since it is so close, I'll be back over there soon!
Received my bags from GT bags in today's mail. This company definitely believes in sending you sample bags. *grin*
Now to find some red/green M&M's.
Can someone post a pic of the back of their bag with the topper. Just want to see how you all are attaching the topper.
Thanks.

Here is one with the scallop: I staple the scallop to the bag, then put the center of the scallop over top of the staple so that you can't see it from the front.

Shipping is 4.95 (which is reasonable to me) but that is for priority and you get them and some samples within 2-3 days normally. I have gone through about 500 of these and have never had one split on me!
Hope that helps!
Beth

Here are the Skittles treats I made for Halloween. Sorry the picture isn't that good. I slipped a plastic spider ring over the treat bag, and it fit perfectly! The kids loved them!

You did a great job and thanks for sharing the idea of slipping the spider ring on there ~ I love it!
Do you do anything to cover the staple in the back?
I am making my first ones now and filled 35 bags tonight. That part went really fast but I think the decorating part will take much longer.

No, I don't cover the staple in the back...only the front. Here are a few that I made tonight with the Christmas m&m's that I found at Target! Sorry pix quality is so bad...had to take it with my phone.

A big THANK YOU to those of you who suggested making a funnel out of paper to feed in the candy!!!
I started making the 200 bags I promised my sister I would make for her volunteer luncheon in December. I'm using the blue and white Peppermint bits from Reese's since the decorations are blue and silver.
That magic funnel is making this a do-able task instead of driving me crazy so thanks for the helpful advice :p

The gas station has paper funnels for adding oil to your car. I think I'll pick one of those up to see if it'll work for adding candy to the tubes. If so, free and easy! LOL.

No offense intended, but hygiene might pose a problem with that idea. The thought of filling a candy tube with something that was handled with unwashed hands, tossed in a car and handled again with unwashed hands before using gives me the willies...maybe it's just me, but I would rather use a clean piece of computer paper fresh off the stack than worry about germs.

Agrees - I am glad I am not alone.
Same reason I don't quite understand using empty toilet paper rolls for scrapbooks.

LOL...DUDE! I know! Glad I am not the only one!
As a matter of fact, I have been making the test tube treats because I can just snip off the corner of a Sixlets bag and pour them in the tube...never have to touch any candy at all.
I never got the toilet paper roll scrapbook ideas. I guess I saw that Dateline or 20/20 thing where they showed how far the "germs" spray out in your bathroom when you flush the toilet. I keep telling my son to quit leaving his toothbrush on the sink!
I LOVE everyone's M&M treats! They are all so cute!!
Lessons learned from my stint of filling those little bags last night:
-- cover your work surface with a clean cloth. I used a large tea towel that was freshly laundered. M&M's dance when they miss the bag this saves chasing the little buggers! Have a nice clean bowl to put the candy in so you can see the colors easily.
-- wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands! None of my vinyl gloves fit well enough to allow me to open the bags, insert funnel and fill. I had to do it "bare hands", so I was extra cautious about having anything that had contact with the candy being pristinely clean.
-- make several "funnels" from precut pieces of unused typing paper. Smaller funnels worked better (2 1/2" X 3 1/2" paper, rolled so tube was 3 1/2" long, taped at one end to fit the top of bag). Because the tops of the bags were a pain to get open, I found it less frustrating to insert 5 funnels into 5 bags and then repeat rather than messing with a funnel every time a bag was filled.
-- set out a color pattern of m&m's on your work surface that you can refer to as you load the tubes. It's a mind-numbing process and you will go nuts trying to have a nice looking arrangement of colors in the bags AND keep count of how many go in the bag. As someone mentioned earlier, it takes 25 m&m's to nicely fill the bags. I set out a row of 6 colors and then did it 4 times for each bag plus one to make 25. Easy peasey and requires no guessing.
-- use a glue dot to secure the flap. I discovered this morning that several of the tops had popped open (my bags had the removeable tape strip at the top). For the rest of the bags I will just do the glue dot when I remove the tape strip.
-- allow WAY more time to fill the bags than you think you will need! ;)
That's all my tips for now, I'll add more as needed. Ha...
THANKS Boss for the suggestions!!! My treat bags got here from GT bags...they also included some freebie samples of other bags!
I am OCD about washing my hands, so that's not a problem! ;) However, I did have to chase down M&Ms as they really do bounce well when they land on the table! LOL
Ohhhhh the funnel idea.......how I wish I would have seen that.....I filled them one by one!!! Thankfully I only made 3 tubes so far! Sheesh.....why do I always do things the hard way??
All of the samples are just fabulous and you've all inspired me to actually make these for a big family get-together after Thanksgiving.....I'll post pics when I get them all made!
I used red, white and blue and just lined up 3 containers in a line in color order. Used clean hands and after third piece of candy they just line themselves up with no problem. I made hundreds and only a couple opped open! Don't stress!

I had the same problem of the top flaps opening after I had made the tubes.
I had to go back with adhesive on each flap to keep them closed.
One more tip - look at the candies in each tube after they are filled. I had to dig out quite a few pieces of the peppermint candies because of chips in the candy coating. It just doesn't look nice when you can see the interior of the candy - looks like it might have been nibbled on.

Good tip! I noticed the same thing with m&m's, though there weren't a lot of damaged shells, they definitely looked mouse-bitten in the bags.
