I THINKthat it is when a SU Demo creates 5-6 cards and invites people over to demo the goodies and for a fee people can make and take the cards and have a chance to order what they used (or other goodies) at the same time, like an open house/make and take combo....

I THINK that this is right....

The Stamp-A-Stacks I've been to work like this. I pay $15-20 (depending on which demo I go to and how many projects are included) to attend. One offers 2 each of 5 cards and one offers 3 each of 5 cards. The demo has come up with the ideas, cut all the materials, and put each project in a separate bag. I move from station to station using her stamps and creating my own version of the cards she's created with the materials provided. (I usually do pretty close to what she has done; some people mix it up) There are snacks (and cocktails if it's in the evening!) and the chance to order items at the end. Sometimes there's a theme (birthday cards, etc.). Usually there are prizes throughout the event or a door prize at the end. They're fun and I think they are a really good value.

I have done several Stamp-A-Stacks. It is a lot of prep work up front, but an overall fun experience. I put all the supplies together for each participant and provide stations for each card. I type out step by step directions and provide a photo of the card on the instruction sheet as well as a completed card which I mark as a sample at each station. As the demo I typically float from station to station offering any assistance and answering questions.

These are really fun to do in October or November to get people started on Holiday cards. I did 20 cards (5 cards each of 4 designs) and we would typically be done in around 2 hours. Like I said, I would do A LOT of prep work in advance to make that possible, including scoring and folding the cards. The participants stamped and layered and that was it. The people who hostessed the SAS's would provide the location and the refreshments. Since I did so much of the work I would charge a bit more, but everyone who walked away always seemed satisfied with what they got for the $$$. On a few cards I would sometimes make a more is more version with extra embellishments to show what else could be done to dress up the card some more. The more experienced participants would then order the embellishments so they could jazz the card up more later.

HTH!
