Default Question about scal program

I have a question about purchasing a scal program. I have a cricut expression and I would like to know more about the scal2 program. I have heard alot of good/bad about it. I make alot of crafts throughout the year that I sell just trying to decide if I ought to keep buying the carts which are too expensive or go the scal2 way. Any advice you can give would mean alot. Thank You

From what I can tell by reading about this online it depends on your Expression firmware. If your Cricut Expression has version 2.35 or older it works w/ no problem. But if you've upgraded your firmware (like I did :mad I'm pretty sure it doesn't work anymore.

Due to the Provocraft lawsuits, SCAL is no longer available for any Cricut. If you buy expensive cartridges, your best bet would be to put that money aside and buy a machine that works with SCAL. One of the most popular units closest to the price of the Cricut seems to be the Silhouette Cameo for around $269 (the website says $299 but I've seen them lower at Oh My Crafts and other sites).

Silhouette CAMEO

There are lots of other cutters out there besides this one. I still have my Cricut and will use it until it dies and then replace it with something ... "anything but a Cricut".

I was going to post the same thing as Leslie. I will also be looking at a Cameo when my Cricut dies.

What do y'all plan to do with all of your cartridges once you replace your Cricut? The feature I liked so much about SCAL is because it was the best of both worlds. If I wanted to use a cart, I could. If I wanted to cut an SVG image, I could. Really stinks PC blocked us from using it.

I only have the two cartridges that came with my machine and one of them is in the machine so I can read the SCAL files only. I've only used the a couple of times. There's not that much on them and I wouldn't have bought them separately. I'm 99% SCAL for all my cutting needs.
