Question Question about replacing retired stamp sets

Hi
I am fairly new to SU products and don't have two consecutive idea books to check this myself. My question is: when a stamp set is retired is it usually replaced by a similar type stamp set?

I am specifically interested in Toy Box (boy toy's) but see it is retiring. I am trying to determine whether I should buy it or hold out for a replacement set which might be better assuming a new set of boy toy's will be introduced?

I guess the safe answer is to buy it as I can always sell it or keep it if something better comes along..... but what if you were on a fixed income (maternity leave)?

Marina

No, it isn't. Sometimes if a verse set retires (like a birthday one), you can pretty much predict that it will be replaced by another birthday one, but you really can't predict what will be in the new catty. If you really love the set, buy it NOW if you can afford it. If not, wait and see if you can get it after it retires. This can be iffy -- some sets shoot up in value. Ya just never know!

I am a demo, and I bought this set last year, even thinking that it would retire then. I just knew I liked that particular set for personal scrapbooking use.

You are definitely right when you say you can always trade or sell it later if you want. Seems like a lot of the children's sets are ones that go up in value later on.

I've not gotten sets when they've retired for various reasons, and can now kick myself when I see the 'bay prices. If it's something you'll use a lot, I say get it. You can always sell or trade it later.

If you like it, buy it now. Don't wait to see if there is something in the new catty. You may be disappointed. You can always trade it away or sell it later if you do find something you like better.

I agree about the "niche" sets. General sets (like Framed Greetings) can pretty easily be replaced. BUT sets that cater to a specific market are often hard to come by-ESPECIALLY kid sets. Think of Yeehaw and Dinomite, Going Somewhere, and the scout set. All are kids sets and very tricky to find now for a decent price.

The Toy Box is one I find myself pulling out often and I am sorry to see it retire-it is a fav of my customers with boys who are harder to find sets for. ;)

Smile Thanks for your advice

I will be getting it on my next order. It is so hard to find a nice boys set of stamps (there are at least 3 nice girl sets in the IB&C), so I'm going to snap it up while I can.
