Splitcoaststampers.com - the world's #1 papercrafting community
You're currently viewing Splitcoaststampers as a GUEST. We pride ourselves on being great hosts, but guests have limited access to some of our incredible artwork, our lively forums and other super cool features of the site! You can join our incredible papercrafting community at NO COST. So what are you waiting for?
I'm pretty new to this site, and I've got to say IT'S HUGE! I keep getting lost!
Anyway, I'm wondering about the Fan Club pages and whether it's worthwhile spending the money to be a part of it. What are the pros and cons and why would you recommend it.
I have learned so much from the ladies here on SCS. This site offers so much that I joined the Fan Club just to help keep all this going. I dropped all my magazines and find everything right here. You can also up load on Sunday if you are a member. Ask any question you need to know and someone will help or tell you where to go for help so the $25 seems to be a small price to pay, plus their gallery is beautiful

You can also up load on Sunday if you are a member.
You can actually upload anytime you want, but all uploads are subject to approval. Fan Club members get instant approval (I assume it's a computer setting they can toggle on). Non-fan club members have to wait for SCS's volunteer staff to approve the upload; the volunteers have Sundays off. If you upload on Sunday and you're not a fan club member, your picture just sits in the queue until Monday.
I have been a Fan Club Member for a couple of years now because I love being a part of this community and have received so much encouragement and help from fellow members. None of my friends make cards or do any craft so I love being able to chat with like-minded people who understand the passion that I have - and I am on SCS every day. Even though this site is free, I know that it does cost money to run and I really wanted to give something back to keep this wonderful place up & running & to say thanks - and having a paid membership is my small way of doing that.
I also donate each year to Wikipedia & it's associated websites to keep up and running. Wikipedia is also free and run by volunteers & I use their website ALOT - but it still costs money to run and I am happy to give something back to say "thank you". I am not asking you to donate to them - I guess I am more making the point that nothing is really free & when something stops being available, people wonder why not realising that it costs money to run websites.
the main points have already been mentioned to you.
it helps support the site and as a way of saying Thank-you for being a paid member you will also have access to a special members only gallery once a month that the dirty dozen creates for the fan club.
you also if you choose to participate in special challenges ( not the daily ones listed in the forums) but, a few times a year there are special challenges like in the summer the Dirty girls host a week of special challenges called dare to get dirty. and some of the other fan club perks are when the Virtual Stamp Night Challenges happen (it's maybe a quarterly thing? not sure but, its every few months or so) when those challenge come along there are some special "sneak peeks" into what a few of the challenges will be early.
and when those special challenges happen.
there are sometimes free gift membership extensions available for people to "win"
I have been a Splitcoast member for a few years too. I joined for the same reason many others have joined. I want to do my part to keep this site going. It costs money to keep a site going especially one as large as this . They have to hire people to maintain it and purchase the bandwidth
$25 a year is a small price to pay for all the information we get
I have learned so much and would be lost with out it. I read reviews of new products; find out how to use current products and if I can't think of an idea for a die or stamp I do a search in the Gallery and will find and idea.
I also donate to Firefox to do my part to keep that running too.
At $25 per year that is a little under 7 a day or $2.08 per month . Do you get 7 a day in information that is valuable to you?
Everyone must answer that question themselves .

Yes, you can still upload on Sunday and it will just sit in the queue waiting for approval; but a queue of uploads, which can run to well over a couple of hundred cards on a quiet Sunday, needing approval is not a sight to cause a gallery mod's heart to rejoice!! I do, however, understand that for some people Sunday is the only time they have.
I'm in the camp who thinks that the Fan Club sub is more than worth it to help support the site. For the price of about two magazines, which I stopped buying, I get a huge amount of inspiration and advice.
I became a fan club member some years ago, maybe 5. I joined because I got so much out of it that the nominal charge was well worth it! There is more info here than on anywhere on earth and tutorials, although available to all are phenomenal. It's worth it and I 've since made new friends being an active member.
Ok how do I join? What is the address I mail my check to....is it 25.00 a year? Thank yo and a great place to be........

Most people pay with PayPal, which is instant - but if you scroll down that page a bit, you'll find an address and the instructions for mailing a cheque (check!). It's important to include your SCS username ;-).

I need to renew…I just haven't done it since the little guy keeps me distracted! I like being able to upload (as if I stamped recently let alone uploaded lol) instantly and on Sundays. But my main reason is just to support this awesome and amazing site! I have so many friends in my life that I wouldn't have if not for this place and it's my way to give back to those who work so hard to make it what it is. That's worth it in and of itself! Maybe I'll have a chance to renew today if I can get my paypal account updated since daddy is home today :-)
I need to renew also. Will do it in afew minutes. I haven't posted anything yet but like to support the site. Some cards are so beautiful I am hesitant to upload mine.

Oh,don't hesitate! Go back and look at earlier uploads for most of us, and you'll see we all started out at the bottom of a learning curve ;-). Of course there's way much more available now, too. I wince when I look at some of my cards that pre-date my gallery here!!

Please don't be discouraged - just go for it I also see so many "WOW" creations but still upload mine because they are my own style and I love that I have a record of what I have made since I first uploaded in 2008 (and yes, I admit I was a little scared at the time). It's also great to look back on my early works and see my progress since then.
I pay by check. I just make sure to send my renewal check a month before it is to expire. This is my crafting home and the ladies here are my crafting sisters!
I originally joined when I heard about the Dirty Dozen gallery each month....I just HAD to see those creations, to gain as much knowledge and inspiration as I could from the "pro's"! Being able to participate in the Dare To Get Dirty Challenges each year is the ultimate treat....and quite the challenge too, but too fun to miss!! The $25 fee each year is a "no-brainer" for me!!!
I just joined!! How long will it take before I can have access to the part of SCS?
I LOVE SCS, not as active as I use to be and it is a great community of crafters and everyone is so willing to help and share!
Lynn, how can you tell how long you have been a fan club member? I can't find it in my profile, but if my memory is correct, I signed up when the memberships first started. Anyway, I have been a fan club member for a long time and will never let it lapse! This site is my crafting home. I have probably learned at least 80% of what I know about stamping and paper crafting on this site. Not to mention the many virtual friendships I have through participating here, both in the forums and especially the challenges. What I used to pay for magazine subscriptions far outweigh what I spend here at $25 a year, and I gain SO much more. Can you tell I love this place? I will always support it!

After being here a few months I fell in love and signed up. I think it is a huge value! I dont have any close by stamping friends and my LSS is all about styles I am not interested in (mixed media) right now in terms of classes. The discussions of products, companies, techniques...omg. I could spend all day here!
There are 2 days of the week I get excited-Wed for the Inkling b/c the hot topics are always good, and Fridays for the card maker showcase for Operation Write Home b/c those are always good. When I look forward to something I know I need to step up and help support it.
I dont post pics, but I learn EVERY time I am here. I still have not learned how to go around everything yet but I'm chipping away at it I need to go look at the DD gallery! Thanks for the reminder!
And Thanks to the people who run this site for us. Bigs hugs and kudoes to you!

I'm not a member yet, but I feel the same way a lot of these ladies do. I want to help support a site which has given me so much. I've actually been lurking for over a year, then when I finally signed up in September I somehow 'broke' my account, lol. I got impatient trying to fix it and ended up opening a second account.
The only thing holding me back is the fact that I'm not working at the moment and hubby is carrying the entire household burden on his own. As soon as I'm working again, that will be one of the first things up I do.
I love being able to keep a record of my cards (and I don't want to spend the time maintaining a blog) so I use SCS for that.
I have learned more from SCS than anywhere else. The tutorials are fabulous, and the forums answer tons of questions, give advice, tips, etc. Everyone is so helpful.
And I've made two real-life friends and lots of on-line friends through it too!
When you think that one average class at a local craft store costs approximately $25, then $25 for SCS Fan Club membership seems really reasonable and it helps to keep this fabulous site going.

Claudia, if you click on welcome, cjzim at the top of this page and then select Fan Club Subscription toward the bottom of the left side bar, you can see your Fan Club start date.

Only when it's never lapsed, sniff. At some stage I didn't realise mine had because I missed the reminder email, and as a gallery mod my uploads were going through automatically; so it wasn't till I couldn't see the DTGD threads that I realised something was amiss.
Another perk that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet is the monthly challenges that are posted each month on the 15th that go along with that month's theme. They are just for Fan Club Members and now they also have a monthly Christmas card challenge to help you stay on top of your Christmas cards. I don't get a chance to participate in the other SCS challenges but, I try to join in on the monthly Fan Club theme challenges.
You will enjoy it.
