Default Question about coloring digital images....

Hello Everyone!

I just discovered Mo's Digital Designs and have a question about using copics on printed digital designs. Will the ink from printer smudge/run with use of copics? Up to this point I have only used stamped images with Memento ink to color and know you have to be careful with Copics and ink. Thank you ahead of time for any help you can provide! Stacey

Hi Stacey... it might! LOL

A lot depends on the printer and type of ink it uses. Some people have trouble with smearing and some don't. I would print out a small image and then use a light colored marker to test your ink. (Remember to use a paper that works well for you with your coloring style.)

If you do find that your printed image smears there are a few things you can do...
#1 - get a new printer ! LOL (just kidding)
#2 - let the ink set overnight or heat set it with a heat gun
#3 - try a different paper (sometimes it is more the paper than the printer ink)
#4 - spray a very thin layer of a "fixative" over the image to seal it in. Krylon Workable Fixative is good for this. Just a thin layer though or it will change the surface of the paper and make the Copics react differently.
#5 - take your printed image to an office supply store and photocopy it. The photocopy is typically a laser copy and won't react with the ink in the markers.

I hope one of these options works for you! Have fun coloring!

I've never had any problem with digital images printed with my Epson Stylus CX4800 ~ but I really don't color wildly over lines anyway (but have never noticed any smudging even when I'm not careful). And I use cheapy GP paper. (My latest creation is on my blog if you'd like to get a close-up view of one & I assure you the image is very well saturated.)

If you have problems, I've read that you should heat set the ink or at least wait a little while for the ink to dry (again this has not been a problem with my printer).

Good Luck & have fun!!!

I use the laser printer at work to print out my digital images on Gina K card stock to color with my copics. I have never had a problem with smudging!

Print something with your printer such as text so it prints in black, and then go over it with a copic marker. You will know immediately if it will bleed/smear. If it does, try some of the recommendations above. You don't need a digital stamp to try this out.

Default draft printer setting

I'm trying to remember to do this, change the printer setting to quick draft.
I am one of the lucky ones, that does have an HP printer 4440 series, that
ink does smear. A better choice of paper and the draft setting on the printer preferences, have worked best for me.
