Default Question about Canvas Project

So I'm going to try to make the altered canvas project that was featured in the Holiday Blitz, but I am not making a Christmas-themed project. It's for my boss and I have pictures of his three sons when they were all about 2 years old. I'm going to use browns and light blue on the project. I found the perfect ribbon and perfect scrapbook paper for it.

I have two questions:

1. Should I use glitter on this at all? I found some baby blue super fine glitter, but then started thinking maybe I shouldn't use glitter because it's for a man and it has all boys on it.

2. What sort of shape should I use for the chipboard embellishments? I have a Cricut and 3 shape carts -- Doodlecharms, Animal Kingdom and Tags, Bags & Boxes. I was thinking maybe a sailboat or car.

Thanks for the input!

First of all, I would not use glitter for a man, just mho!
I would stick to initials, maybe their last name initial as a chipboard embellishment. If they are into sailboats or cars then those would make sense but otherwise, it might look a bit kiddish.
How about some hardware? Do you have any bulldog clips or Hodgepodge harware?
