Sounds funny....anyway, I have gotten a few of the hostess stamps, some with the purple rubber, some with green - I have found that the purple rubber in particular, is repelling the ink from my ink pad! The ink just beads up and won't stay smooth on the stamp.
Needless to say, my stamped images look terrible. I am going to contact my demonstrator about it, but I just wondered if anyone else has had this problem, and if there is a fix for it.
This problem is usually resolved by doing one of the following:
Rub a soft white eraser over the surface of the rubber to remove the "skin" created when the hot rubber hit the die when it was formed.
Scrub the rubber back and forth on the surface of a brown paper bag - this also removes the "skin" without damaging the rubber.
Some people recommend using a fine grit sandpaper or some similar abrasive, but I do not recommend it because it will scratch the surface of the rubber and leave permanent marks on it.
When I first get my stamps I usually give them a good cleaning (Like if I had been stamping with them) and use a toothbrush in the final step of cleaning to make sure I get down into all the fine details and it usually takes care of the problem you're describing.

I know I didn't make the original post...but thanks for posting this, ya'll! I was having the SAME problem with my hostess set that I got last week...and was very disheartened by it!!!
I also find that if my ink tries to bead up on *any* stamp, I rub it back and forth on the stamp pad a couple of swipes then pat it on the stamp pad to ink it up. Saves time and energy while you are on a roll....
