2. Any craftwork to be sold must not incorporate third-party copyrighted material. The craftwork must contain only Provo Craft products that are sold under the Provo Craft trademark.
So I'm just confirming that this means we cannot sell any handmade cards, etc. that would incorporate both SU! copyright stamps (or others) and anything produced from the Cuttlebug or Cricut, right?
But we could still give them away, right, like a gift with purchase?
"9. Copyrighted material of Provo Craft may not be altered in any manner, including but not limited to, masking or overlaying portions in the overall design. Any other alteration will be considered an infringement of copyright."
Those would be pretty boring cards with just the embossed Cuttlebug design. I always see them layered.
Realistically, I doubt that anyone would be reported for selling things at a local craft fair for mixing and matching, or layering the Provo Craft products with Stampin Up or any other craft company. What are these companies thinking when they demand so many restrictions?

Well I wish I would have read this before I ordered the 50 tins from JoAnns last week. UGH! What the heck am I going to do with these things now. Sigh!
I was going to be incorporating multiple things in case you wondering.
Yeah this really isn't helping me at all right now. I'm already stressed out about the 34 gallon paint cans sitting in my dining room giving me problems. Now I have 50 tins sitting next to them causing me more headache then I need right now.
I had major plans for these things but going to have to think about it all right now. Sigh, well thanks for the heads up at least now I know.
I just emailed them...I had asked my mom to get me Cuttle Bug for Christmas but do not want it if this is still the policy! I feel I should be able to create with the craft items I buy and sell what I want....with credit to companies supplies used. I was thrilled to see the changes being made by SU as I have many of their stamps and had bought most before I understood their angel policy...which has been a point of contention for me...and thus decreased my purchases from them; now I can buy SU and even consider becoming a demo possibly.
Yes I was suprised to see this. If you hear back from Provo Craft, please let us know. I was going to post to the www.cricut.com message board and see if anyone knew, but I'll wait to see what you hear. I hope this is outdated. Kim
I'm sorry, but when I see a policy as strict as this I say, "So sue me!"
That's just ridiculous. I own tons of Provo Craft stuff, was not aware of their policy, and have already broken it a gazilion times. Guess I won't stop now! Who would buy ANY of their stuff if they knew that in advance?!
If you are of a mind to actually honor their policy, you'd better read every bit of packaging on everything you buy, because they manufacture many different items under many different names.

Very well said and I totally agree. I'm still going to use my stuff as I have before this was brought to our attention. They can't police everyone.

I have to agree that it is a rediculous policy, but just because you broke it without knowlege, doesn't make it right to keep breaking it either now that you know..
I say take that *attitude* and give it to Provo Craft directly via emails or letters to their corporate office! I can say that I buy enough PC materials in a year alone that it will dent their pocketbooks just a tad
I'm sure if the entire SCS board contacts them, they may take some notice and consider changing the policy...
I don't see how a tin would be affected by the copyright policy as copyright should not apply to a plain tin. However, it would apply to their images such as printed paper or cuttlebug folders.

Well I emailed the other day and had no response so I called them and this is indeed their policy! I questioned the lady twice and told her that many people on a popular stamping site were awaiting this info for determining if they should get this for Christmas. She checked again and said that you are not supposed to use any other companies stuff if you were selling the products and that you aren't to sell more than 200 per year. I explained that I had made and sold over 550 wedding invites and all were hand stamped and assembled within the past few months and she verified that this would not be allowed per their policy.
So now what else can a person use for good dry embossing?? I would prefer to stay on the legal side of usage also!!??
I would have to give up the tins and switch to another brand because I would not be using only provo craft to decorate it and the contents it would hold.
I agree it is ridiculous but it is enforceable...you could possibly be sued for copyright enfringement...would it ever happen in a bajillion years probably not...

WOW, I had no idea their policy was so restrictive. I don't really sell that many handmade items but this also makes me reconsider purchasing a Cuttlebug.
did me too so started a thread asking what else works similar....I really like the dry embossed items but I make wedding cards and specifically asked them did that mean I could not layer on a stamped layer from someone else NO not allowed...also made 300 for wedding recently for pay...NO only around 200 per year for pay. So I am seeking alternatives?? Any ideas?? I really like the embossed layers but I try very hard to stay inside of angel policies....thus haven't used SU and have bought less of their product up until now due to this I am doing the HAPPY dance over their change of policy!!!!
I'm still trying to figure out the best way to break this to the forum I own that is business related to what I do. Those ladies are not going to be happy.

This is a super strict policy - hardly can be called and "angel" policy if you ask me... but here's what I think:
Certainly they can't police everyone. That being said, I don't think that's why they create a policy like this. I think they are trying to protect themselves from people that are trying to make a viable business out of selling things made using their products. I think they know that people are going to mix things up. But if they find out that someone is making a lot of money (aka, a viable business) selling things made with their products, they are leaving the option open to sue that person for copyright infringement and therefore stand to make some money off that person's success.
I personally doubt they're worrying about people that are making one set of wedding invitations for someone that wants to pay them. If it bothers you that much, consider it ONE project, not 300. lol
I know if we all tried to adhere this strictly to every company's policy, we'd be restricted to just that one company's products - which is EXACTLY what they're trying to accomplish... they want ALL of your crafting money, and not allowing you to spread it around by holding this policy over you they're getting what they want.
While I understand their corporate strategy on this kind of thing, they are not going to be able to keep everyone on the straight and narrow for their own monetary gain.
Make your crafts - don't sweat the small stuff -and if they send a rep from ProvoCraft to police you, you be sure to let us all know, because we'd all be VERY surprised to hear about it. Besides, I doubt they are going to come to your craft fair and serve you with papers to sue you for the $40 you made there.
I'm a person who is a play-by-the-rules kind of gal, but with something this ridiculous I just can't stomach the big corporation attitudes anymore.
Certainly if you're a demo for a company, then they have a bit more say in the way you represent their products, but unless you work for Provo, just craft YOUR way because that's what creativity is all about. So let's all take a deep breath and craft the way we want to, shall we?
Here's their address & phone # if anyone wants to write them about being unhappy with their angel policy. I think it's worthwhile to point out that it's out of line with most other 'craft' companies.

Do we know if their angel policy is still the same? If so I would like to write to them and tell them what I think of it! lol!
I researched a lot of companies re: their angel policy because one day I would like to sell my cards and I am only going to buy from companies that allow me to do so.
Companies such as MM, Heidi Swapp and a bunch of others that say "you can do whatever you wish" are now my number one companies and I will always buy from them first! And then companies that say yes but you have to copyright them on the back of your cards are the second choice such as SU.
But companies that say no (colorbok) will never get my business unless they were to change their policy! I loved KandCo and when I asked them a year ago they said no, so I told them I would not buy any more of their products and I did not.....until recently when I saw they changed their policy!
I am not happy that Provo Craft has such a strict policy. Its not like their items are cheap....come on... a cricut is a couple of hundred dollars, the cartridges $80 and then cuttlebug sizziz etc, we are not talking a couple of stamps that are a couple of dollars each. Most of us have probably spent over $500 on provo craft stuff and for them to be so harsh when it comes to us using it.....it makes me mad lol!!!
So anyway I want to write to Provo craft and tell them exactly what I think lol!
I just checked the Provo Craft website and it would seem that this is indeed the policy and remains unchanged. I think they are about to get some mail!

I bought it mostly for the embossing folders, not the die cuts. I'm glad I've mostly bought all the folders I want though. This company is not going to be seeing any more of my money!
