Problem with SU clear stamps and sticking them to the blocks
I LOVE SU... I love the new blocks and unmounted stamp sets that they sell... HOWEVER... I have a problem getting them to stick to the SU block... any pointers would be greatly appreciated. thanks
Dawn
I huff on my block to make it foggy and then stick the stamp on it. I press and hold for a few seconds and then stamp away. I've never had a stamp come off while stamping.
Also make sure your hands and block and stamp are clean. :-)
For some reason some people have issues and some don't. I'm in the no issues crowd and I have the images attached to all of my stamps.
Goodluck!

I have had problems with one of my SU sets not sticking to my blocks too. I have had my acrylic blocks for 5 or 6 years and they are from CTMH. I think my blocks are scratched. I pile them up on a side table beside my work table and they have scratched. You can't feel it but you can see it on some. So I was wondering if that was my problem, but it's only been a problem with one stamp set.
I'm in the no problem sticking group and my blocks are older, scratched, cracked and it doesn't seem to make a difference. A couple of suggestions for you:
Clean your DVD case and sticker side of stamp with alcohol - removes some of the residue from the mfg. process
Make sure you don't stretch the sticker when you put in on the stamp - the stamp needs to lay flat on the block
I don't need to do this but cut the sticker a little smaller than the stamp so you have some cling let on the edge to stick to the block
Add a wee bit of Tombo mono glue to the sticker and let dry over night
There are alot of threads about this issue that talk about humidity, etc. and I guess I've been lucky as I just mounted 6 sets of clear mount stamps and they all stick and I didn't do anything but stick them on.
I'm having that problem too, especially when I use Versamark because it's a little sticky. I finally peeled the stamp off the block and just used it with my fingers and set the block on top of it to get even pressure. I will try the huffing thing though, I think that could help. Do you huff on the block or on the stamp? Or does it matter?
I'm doing a workshop today and it's my first time showing the clear stamps, so I'm a little nervous!
Yes, I have trouble too with the clear mount sticking to the block. I read I another thread to take the sticker off. What to with the sticker I am not sure I think they said to place the sticker inside the case for easy reference???? I am going to try this.
So far I haven't had any trouble identifying which stamp I want, but if I did I'd write it on the original rubber sheet they came in.
I'm loving those sheets! When I clean up my messy table I know if a set is complete and I know what goes in which set. And I don't have to play a brain puzzle game to get the wooden blocks back in the case!
i use the sugarloaf (see d's) sticky strips on my acrylic blocks - the stamps stick to them fine and remove easily. until i did this i couldn't get the larger stamps to stay put.
I wonder if you could use double stick tape on the block? Scotch sells some that is good and not expensive, (especially if you are a commissary shopper)
When I unmounted all my SU! sets, I applied Zig 2-way glue right on the sticker and let it dry. It remains super tacky so there's no need to put anything on your acrylic blocks.
Hope this helps!

another vote for NOT putting on the stickers.
they seem way to slick to grab ontot the blocks properly.
i juts save them, why, not sure , but cant bare to throw away LOL

This is what I would suggest also. I used this trick back when I would put vinyl clings in the windows to decorate for the holidays. They stick best when slightly wet.
I don't have much problem, I just press more firmly. However, if I use a sticky ink like versafine or metallic silver, they do come off more. When I had some friends over to stamp, I stuck the stamp to the block with some double sided tape. Worked great.
I knew they would panic if it fell off the block!

the tape needs to be washable. the see d's does not lose it's stickiness when cleaned and thus can be used over and over. however, i don't see why you couldn't use the scotch tape and then just use new tape the next time you stamp.

Dbl stick Scotch tape is really hard to get off blocks without using a harsh chemical that will ruin your blocks. Ask me how I know and why I had to scrape tape off my blocks with a putty knife:rolleyes:

good to know! glad i never tried and definitely won't no. thanks for the tip.

Hi
Can you please tell me what 'sugarloaf (see d's) sticky strips' are? I have had a few of my SU stamps not stick too so I'm up for anything that would help.

see d's are stamps that are unmounted and are a Sugarloaf product. when u buy their stamps they always have extra mounting tape with them as a replacement when the old tape wears out. i use these extra tapes on my acrylic blocks. Tsukineko makes a product called Tack 'n peel which i also use on unmounted stamps. it's a great product that i find at my local stamper store. Aleene's apparently makes a glue that is supposed to dry into a tacky product that can be used over and over again. i've looked for it but haven't be able to find it yet so cannot attest to how it works. hope this helps.
I found a great tip from somewhere on the website for SCS. I too was having trouble with the stamps not sticking to the case and they were falling to the bottom. Forgive me for not remembering who suggested it. When I get the stamps pulled out and put the label on it I use the rest of the rubber or negative space and put that in the SU case. I then just place the stamp in its original spot and it holds perfectly. Lovin it!
If you want to use double-stick tape on your blocks, the thing to buy is Scotch Poster Tape. Sticks great and removes easily without leaving residue (no harsh chemicals and no putty knife needed!)
For some reason SU calls these clear stamp sets. They are not in any way shape or form a clear stamp. They are a cling stamp that adheres to a clear block. And I really wish SU would go back to the drawing board and fix them so they stick well. I have Inkadinkadoo clings, cheap g studio clings and Hero Arts cling stamps. All of them adhere beautifully. I would think that with all their resources SU would be able to FIX this problem. End of rant.

They actually call them "Clear Mount Stamps" but I agree that it's quite confusing. I shouldn't be surprised, though, since e-mails requesting that they offer an unmounted option were met with a reply that SU had no intentions ever to switch to clear acrylic stamps- so apparently they have been quite confused themselves.
I can say that the stamps cling just fine as long as you don't put the stickers on. If they were set on index stickers, I don't understand why they didn't research better and use the same thing that See-D's uses (which sticks great). I don't mean to be a basher, but they waited a long time to make this option available. With all their resources, I'd have thought they would have taken the time to make sure the unmounted stamps they offered were some of the best available.
After I adhere the sticker I rub it really clean with a wet wipe. No issues after that. If I don't do that they do not adhere with the sticker on at all.
