Hi, I am wondering if anyone can show me what you have done using these pencils. I am also wondering if there is a cheaper equivilent? How do they compare to watercolor?
thanks
Kim
who has now graduated uni and can get creative!!!
Here is one I did yesterday. I love these pencils. I got mine on a great sale (40% off and then a $10 rebate). They weren't expensive at all that way. And as far as watercolors, I don't use them. I love my Prismas.

I have many other examples in my gallery.
I've been told that you can get a similar result using Crayola pencils, which are very inexpensive.

Just a note here - Happy Heart, you used gamsol - mineral spirits with your card example as I do... I'm wondering if the original poster had that in mind or not.
For myself, I can only say that with gamsol, the prisma colour pencils are really fabulous - they have a lot of pigment as opposed to filler in them - so they spread and blend much better than something like a cheaper crayola pencil.. I'll see if I can find a couple of in my gallery.
Most folks call using gamsol and prismcolour pencils gamsol magic - you might try a search for that.
There are quite a few brands available at art supply stores that are excellent quality. Derwent, Faber-Castell, Lyra, but all are kind of expensive. Koh i noor makes an awesome colored pencil, but only has 24 colors, but they are usually around $10 for the set. Your best bet is to visit Michael's with a coupon. They have the 120 color set of Prismacolors and with the coupon I think they will run you about $70. There are also smaller sets you can get, which might be a better idea if you've never used colored pencils before and don't know if you'll like them. HTH!
Are the prismacolor & koh-i-noor pencils made from the same "stuff"? I know the koh-i-noor are woodless, but is there a fundamental difference in the pigment?

I bought mine all open stock at Michales and a local hobby shop. That way I got the colors I wanted and I did not have to pay lots of money up front. I think they were $1.49 per pencil. They are worth it though. I love using Prismas.

Koh-i-noor pencils have a higher pigment content especially when it comes to the blues. I love them. They spread like buttah when you use them with OMS.
