My sons' elementary school is having a staff appreciation luncheon in December. I'd like to make "Pre-Holiday Staff Survival Kits" for the staff. Any ideas on what to put in the kit (and the sayings to go with it)? Thanks!
Hi Josephine!
I'm a teacher, and I know somewhere I've seen a poem with items you can give to teachers. Sort of a survival kit. I tried to do a google search for you, but couldn't find it.
It's something like this--although my phrases maybe wrong.
a rubber band-because you are so flexible
an eraser-because you help children fix their mistakes
Gum-because you stick with the kids until they understand
bandaid-because you heal their wounds
Kleenex-because you dry their tears (although the winter cold sounds good too)
Chocolate or candy-because you are so sweet
mechanical pencils-so you never run out of things to say
staples-because you hold the class together
MMM...that's all I can think of right now. Just use your imagination. Teachers aren't looking for great big extravagant things. It really is the thought that counts. If you could work in sticky notes, index cards, ziploc bags---those are all things that teachers need daily and are greatly appreciated. Hope that helps
Sam
I'm not sure how I'm going to package them yet -- maybe paint cans or pails? Thanks for all your wonderful ideas -- I love the survival kit website. Awesome!
I used to give my fellow teachers these in a little bag with a mini calendar to count down the days til the holiday break and fill it with:
pain-reliever, chocolates, mints, mini hand sanitizer, mini tissues, a can of their favorite soda, a cute holiday post-it pad, and a message about how much thier friendship meant.
You can always change the contents, and alter the note to be from Santa/to one of Santa's favorite elves. Have fun!
Someone sent this to me... Hope that this is what you were looking for.
Teacher Packet Gift
Band-Aid: For when things get a little rough.
Bath Salts: "To take you away." You deserve a quiet break.
Crayon - to color your day bright and cheerful
Ear Plugs - when you just can't take anymore
Eraser - to remind you everyone makes mistakes and they can be erased.
Hugs and Kisses - for when you need a hug
Jewel - because you are so precious
Lifesaver: For when you've had one of those days.
Marbles - to replace the ones you've lost
Mint - to remind you that you are worth a "mint"
Mounds Bar - for the mounds of confidence you give your students.
Paperclip - to hold it all together
Peanuts: To remind you things can get a little nutty.
Puzzle Piece - without you the class wouldn't be complete
Rubber band - to remind you to be flexible
This is my first time to try adding my thoughts to a thread..so here goes!
I have given survival kits and everyone always enjoys getting them. Another idrea I have used is to give a small basket of assorted mints with the following note attached: (of course something is stamped on the note, too.)
Thank You
Assort-"mint"

You are very much appreciated.
( not quite the same idea as the survival kit but shows you appreciate them)
I love reading everyone's ideas.
How about buying an inexpensive lunchbox at the Dollar store? You can still decorate it to your liking and it won't break your budget. Lunch tins would be a nice choice, but if you have to make a bunch it can get very expensive.

Papertrey is selling clear paint can containers in a couple sizes that would be perfect. They are quick and easy to decorate too because you can just place designer paper cut to size inside the can rather than having to adhere it to the outside.
As a teacher, I find all these ideas just great! I love the "kit" website...we have Secret Pals all through the year and I printed out a bunch that apply. Thanks for the great thoughts!
How about picking up a cheep metal lunchbox at the dollar store and making it look like a first aid kit? Could be really cute with embelishments and decorative papers.

I love the survival kit site I posted. It is full of ideas. I was just trying to think of some cute way to package them. It doesn't take a large box for these. Thanks for the idea of the lunch tins. and I love the assort mint idea.

About packaging. Well, I bet a Band-aid-tin would work. They are on sale at Joann.com and creativeexpress. Only $ 1.29 or so. Those little tins would look great on any desk
