My husband wants me to go with him to Portland, Oregon in September on a conference. I'm looking for some stamping stores to visit while he is tied up at meetings during the day. Any suggestions?
Portland metro area is a pretty large area. There are LOTS of stores up around that area. I live in Albany, OR, about 70 miles south of Portland. I will start checking my contacts and make some suggestions to you.
What city and state do you live in? Gives me an idea of the type of stores you may be familiar with.
I'm south of Columbus, Ohio. We don't have many specialty stores in my area. We travel a minimum of an hour to get to the mom and pop type stamp stores. I'll be limited in my access because I'll either have no car or a rental car in a town that I know nothing about. We have the typical large chain stores but I like to visit the stores that have stamps that you don't find in the chain stores. A good store to visit if you are in the Cincinnati area is Stamp Your Art Out and a good store in the Canton area is The Stamp Pad in Zoar. Both are awesome stores with a wide variety of stamps and hundreds of samples.
try AAA they will email you a list. just let them know w/in 50 miles, etc.
also try www.scrapbookin.com
they list by states.
i also grab the local phone book & hit the thrift store-lots of people are selling their craft items.
and UPS is cheap for mailing home.
Thanks you all for responding. I always look for shops when I travel. It's always fun to bring back stamps that are unique and be the envy of my stamping friends.
Not a stamp/scrap store, but if you like books, be sure to hit Powell's bookstore! Gosh I miss living there! There is also an IKEA in Portland, which is a great place to pick up storage stuff, and awesome shopping in the Pearl district and NW 23rd.
Pioneer Place is a fun high-end place to window shop. And there is a FAB deli on NW 23rd... can't remember the name, but it is right near Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe, which has been on the Food Network.
I'm going to be in Portland next week, no vehicle, staying near the airport (I think, anyway) at Aloft Hotel, 9920 NE Cascades Parkway. Any stamping stores near there? Or, public transportation that's safe to take? I'm in meetings all day, but have some free time in the evenings.......
This won't help IdahoLee, but there's a really fun (small) stamping store in downtown Tigard (SW of Portland, I think). It's called Main Street Stamp & Stationery, 12245 SW Main, Tigard, OR. Main Street Stamp and Stationery
They have some nice classes there and I really like their style. I always drop in when we're in the Portland/Lake Oswego area visiting kids and granddaughters!
The address for the PaperZone in Beaverton is: 10029 SW Nimbus, Beaverton, OR 503-641-8112. It's by Washington Square Mall. Another fun store! Their prices on cardstock and envies can't be beat here where I live, and I just discovered recently that they also carry the clear envelopes to display cards. Nice not to have to order them and pay S/H.
Thanks, Angelinoregon and Stamp1 for your lists....wish I'd seen them LAST month before we made our annual trek up to Tigard! I'll print them out for next year...
Blessings,
Kat

If you are staying by the airport, you can take MAX (our light rail system), it's safe.
You can get to IKEA really easily since it is RIGHT by the airport. But, you can't pack anything in your bags -maybe they could ship your purchases to you?
MAX goes all the way through Beaverton and Peddler's Pack is very close to a MAX stop. I don't know about downtown Portland stores, but you can always call them and find out if they are near a MAX stop.
