Default Please help with reverse (bleach) stamping

I'm going to be making my wedding invitations this weekend and am using the reverse (bleach) stamping process on the darker envelopes.

I don't use bleach at home at all, I can't stand the smell of chlorine bleach.
So my question is, Can I use bleach without chlorine for this to work? Like, even the environmentally sound "green" bleaches?

thanks very much, I have to make 85 of these and don't want to make a mistake....

(I'm going to be stamping the big swirl-flourish from Baroque Motifs onto sage-green inner invitation folder/envelopes ....)

I have no idea!

You try using the "environmentally sound green bleach" on some scrap paper to see if it would work. I am with you, though. I love the way the bleaching technique looks, but I really can't stand the smell of it - I get a nasty headache every time!

Your envelope idea sounds beautiful! I love the Baroque Motif's swirl stamp. Please post some pictures to share with us.

And cogratulations on your wedding!

It's my understanding that you need to use 100% pure bleach.

Green bleach will not work. It's the chlorine that causes the color change. I've tested this.

Why not try stamping with either a light coloured pigment ink (something like Adirondack Snowcap or Colorbox Frost White maybe) or use acrylic paint (which will give you a slightly grungier look which is probably what you'd have got with the bleach).

Hope you find something that works for you, have fun!

There is a product called Castaway that gives the bleached/batik effect. You prob can only find it at a stamp store. It says it is a Jacquard Product. It has an ink pad and works like an ink pad. If you have to make the invites this weekend it may be to late though because you prob. have to order it. Hope this helps a bit. Goodluck with you project!
